Why phone screeners suck today

So I call up the show, cause i wanna talk about my grizzly bet and that phone screener said whats your name and i say Crazy jen, I said you want me to spell it and he says sure. Then he asks me where Im from and I say Frederick Maryland and then hangs up on me. Hey Jen,to be fair phones are a thankless job,and those interns are new guys who don't know your long history with the show.If you tell them that you are a regular on the show they may show more respect. R&amp;F are definitely expecting your call,but like so many things like the crashing phone system,there's always going to be problems.Hope to hear you next week.Jerry. <p>I had to reply here....certain things need me to respond to and come out off of Elba</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>ADF makes some points and in some&nbsp;circumstances may be correct.&nbsp; let me just state the basics and musts of phone screening</p><p>1- You MUST be listening to the show.&nbsp; Which is hard sometimes, especially sitting next to Earl who probably never shuts up.&nbsp; Ne never did before with inane chatter off the air why now</p><p>2- Have an idea going into the show what is planned and who is expected to be wanted on the phones.</p><p>3-Always have a list of numbers of the regulars.&nbsp; This should be done by the producer as soon as the show started on X/M&nbsp;and updated regularly with the new people.....or resurrected from the WNEW days... Heck, I still got everything.&nbsp; It's called producing. </p><p>4- Have the producer help you out, it is his job.&nbsp; He has to know your an intern and cant sit there not paying attention himself to the phones, he's the producer of the show.&nbsp; he should know who is expected and make sure they get on if they call and listen to the screener as well as the show...and yell...keep her on, they wanna talk to her if he didn't know. In the end its the producers ass for screwing it up.&nbsp; These guys seem to have it much easier...kid gloves</p><p>5- Have wicki or E-LO get you a god damn headset and not cradle the phone in your neck.&nbsp;It's not like they are paying you in the first place.&nbsp;A headset is so much more efficient, easier and more productive.&nbsp; You can go faster and use the other hand to get Earl's attention if necessary.&nbsp; it is just amazing .&nbsp; we didn't have them at WNEW till I asked and within a few weeks all the shows had them...amazing.&nbsp; Get someone who knows how to help the shows and is willing to do it.&nbsp; Its one set for God's sake</p><p>6- try your best to know whats funny and will fit.&nbsp; it can be tough, but learn by your mistakes.&nbsp; if Ron still says get rid of line 4.6, 9......lookand realize why</p><p>7- when going on break or if someone has been on hold a while go to them and say hang on, we still wanna get to your call.&nbsp; You don't want to lose a good caller by not letting them know they are good and the show is still interested, but may have temporarily gone off on a tangent.</p><p>also....during a break, find out if they are moving on, if so, just don't hang up the phones, get on the line, thanks for the call, but we are moving on....callers are a very important part of the show as we all know</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>RE ADF</p><ol><li>*&gt;The screener hung up on you on accident * /&gt;</li>*&gt; <li>The screener hung up on you because he thought they were moving on to another subject </li>* /&gt; <li>Ron hung up on you&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </li></ol><p>If the screener did hang up on you by accident, that is why you have the call sheet handy to call that person back immediately.&nbsp; How many times have you heard for Ex: we lost Paul-O...get him back on the&nbsp; phone.&nbsp; Which was and can be done quickly with a # sheet of the regulars and know to use it.</p><p>If you thought you were moving on to another subject, the screener simply goes to each line, thanks for the call we're moving on.&nbsp; </p><p>Again this is a case of not listening to the show.&nbsp; that is a cardinal sin.&nbsp; how can you put callers up if you don't know the bit, the topic the plan.&nbsp; take 2 minutes before the show and in breaks and ask whats going on</p><p>If Ron hung up on you, its cause the call wasn't deemed worthy of being on the air, it was a repeat, stupid or was moving on.&nbsp; It also could be a cal that has nothing to do with the topic or a sensitive subject matter that is better left off the air and shouldn't be up therein the first place</p><p>With X/M screening should be easier....no worry on screening people on how to say things that will get on the air.&nbsp; ?that was one of the most difficult and time consuming problems.&nbsp; You'd call up with a great idea but for ex cant say stick a finger in
