So, with the startup of filming and casting and everything, I figure it's time to get a thread going. Plus, it'll give everyone who's never seen any of the films or read any of the books the chance to once again let us all know it.

What do we know so far: Percy Weasley will be back, which is good because I liked his storyline in this book, as will Chris Rankin the guy who played him in the other movies. Katie Leung will return as Cho Chang, which I'm also in favor of. Same kids playing the trio and all the other major characters, natch. The director is a guy named David Yates who has mostly done British TV work up until now. Their choices, post Columbus, have been good so I have no reason to think this one'll will be bad.

NEW STUFF: This scary motherfucker:

is playing Kingsley Shacklebolt. George Harris is his name. Usually he plays a bad guy, like some African warlord or Voodoo priest or somesuch. No Luna yet, although they've narrowed down the possibilities. And someone named Robbie Jarvis, I couldn't find a pic, is playing the young James Potter when Harry gets to see into Snape's worst memory.

I think this is probably my favorite book, although POA is close, and HBP has grown on me. I think it lends itself to a very, very cool film, especially the climax. Lots of Sirius in this one, so I'm jazzed. That's all the news I have for now.

More casting news. The first 2 are really more confirmation than anything else.

Imelda Staunton as Dolores Umbridge. Good call.

Helen McCrory as Bellatrix Black-Lestrange. Another good call, I think. Although I will be honest I was rather looking forwad to seeing Elizabeth Hurley in the role.

New stuff:

This broad, Natalia Tena, is playing Tonks whose role is sort of minor in this one, but expands in the next installment, and I have feeling will get bigger in the last one. This is the best pic I could find right now, but I think David Thewlis has done alright for himself.

Evanna Lynch was picked out of about a billion little English girls to play Luna Lovegood. She looks like she'll fit the role.

and lastly, Mrs. Figg, squib and crazy cat lady will be played by Kathryn Hunter. Interesting pic of her here with Wormtail in some other project.

More to follow.
If I were any better, I'd have to be twins!! INRI White people are so scared of blakjeezis INRI"Well, maybe there's a god above, but all I ever learned from love was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you."
Harry's mom, Lily Evans, at 17 is being played by the, might I say, quite comely Susie Shinner.

Harry's dad, circa 1975 is being played by some guy name Robbie Jarvis. I've only found one pic of him and it sucks.

If I were any better, I'd have to be twins!! INRI White people are so scared of blakjeezis INRI"Well, maybe there's a god above, but all I ever learned from love was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you."
James Potter, as a youth

And more about the chick playing Tonks; In About a Boy she was the "bad girl" at school that the geeky kid impresses by singing Mystikal. This was a few years ago, but you get the idea.

And as far as Sirius is concerned, Gary Oldman has not actually been resigned to the role yet.; neither has David Thewlis to the role of Remus. Both are in negotiations, and David Heyman the producer of all the films has said that he foresees no problem getting them on board and they aren't shooting their parts for quite a while yet. Gary Oldman's management has said that there "are no plans yet" for Oldman to reprise the role, but that just sounds like negotiating bravado. I'mnot overly worried, but that being said, I would prefer it to get taken care of. Not that other actors would absolutely destroy the films, but, you prefer the continuity.

Release date confirmed, July 13, 2007. David Heyman, producer, has said we'll have a trailer by the end of the year, but I think sooner, at least a teaser anyway.
I agree, the HP movies work better as X-Mas releases. And of course the teaser trailer will be attached to some large X-Mas movie in Nov/Dec.

Small updates. The yong marauders have been cast, James Walters is to be Young Sirius Black, James Utchen will play a Young Remus Lupin and Alec Hopkins will portray Young Severus. I couldn't find any pictures, but hopefully some will pop up soon. No mention of young Wormtail. Don't know if it's because he's not in it (what a mistake that would be) or just hasn''t been cast yet. Two others I've never heard of, Apple Brook and Jason Piper, will play Prof. Grubbly-Plank and Bane the centaur repsectively. Small potatoes. Larger scale stuff, in replacement news,

debatable piece of ass, personally I think she's kind of a two-face but whatever, Helena Bonham Carter has replaced Helen McCrory as Bellatrix Black Lestrange. Apparently McCrory is gonna be "very pregnant" for the shoot so out she went. I dunno, HBC is a great actress, and will probably play the role very, very well, but I picture Bella being a little bigger, burlier. I'm about 85-90% in favor if this, so what the fuck.

As always, all information is from The Harry Potter Automatic News Aggregator. I recommend it to any and all wishing to keep abreast of breaking Potter info.

So once again the film will have a double release, regular theatres and IMAX. There is also the possibility of at least portions of the IMAX presentation being in 3D depending on how the Superman version goes next week. Apparently the IMAX version of that has about 20 minutes of it in 3D. That seems pretty fucking cool, man. Imagine seeing the DA flying to the Ministry on the Thestrals in 3D, or the battle in the Ministry. I think you should all go see IMAX Superman just to make sure OOTP gets the same treatment.

Couple of quickies.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie release date has been announced as Novemebr 21, 2008. I like this. I much more prefer the films as Christmas movies than summer movies. I don't know why. And amongst some other trivial bullshit pics, some have finally surfaced of something worthwhile:

Snape's Worst Memory

One of my favorite scenes in the book, if not the entire series. After reading Half-Blood Prince, I think the reason it's his worst memory has more to do with the rift it created between him and Lily than the humiliation he suffered at the hands of James and Sirius. But that's just a theory.

Another pic of Susie Shinner, the chick who's playing young Lily Potter. She's on the right there.

I also heard a rumor that Emma Watson is out for the next films. One of my friends that's Mr. Movie Biz told me, but I didn't ask for a source. None of my places have anything mentioned about it and it's such big news that I'm sure at least one of them would have it. So as of now, it is very, very unconfirmed.

Oh yeah almost forgot. Expect a trailer on November 17!

A whole lot of new pics for today, all of Harry and Mr. Weasley by the phone booth secret entrance to the Ministry of Magic I would assume.

Dial 6-2-4-4-2

And as far as Emma Watson/Hermione goes. I have heard nothing further so hopefully it's a false positive. Obviously they would have to recast her, Hermoine couldn't be written out. I mean, it wouldn't be the end of the world, but it would be annoying.

A description, brought to you in **SPOILER VISION ** of the upcoming Teaser Trailer, courtesy of Dissendium.com

It begins with the familiar WB logo, flying through the clouds. We hear
Sirius Black speaking, talking about Voldemort's return, then we see
his face. Cut to Dumbledore, speaking to, presumably, the Wizengamot
warning them of Voldy's return, that they should not ignore the signs.
It quicky shows what looks like the windows of the Great Hall
shattering, but I'm not sure. Then we see Harry, close up with his new
hair cut (WHY!?), then Hermione, then Ron. We see shots of Hagrid, and
then Umbridge(very quick shot). A small snippet of Harry learning
Occlumency: Snape scorns him for being weak minded and Harry says
something like "I'm not weak!" to which Snape replies, "Than PROVE
it!!" Good lord, my memory sucks. Moving along...then we see:
BELLATRIX, WOOT! They show her in all her evil glory, in one shot where
it looks like she might be casting a spell or had just cast one. Cut to
some more rapid shots of Harry and the gang in some forrest and then:
dun, Dun, DUN!!!! VOLDEMORT!! IN SOME FOG!!!! LOOKING CREEPY!!!! Then
we see Harry kiss Cho. Yup. They show it. It's kind of a dark shoot, so
I couldn't tell if it was Cho, but I'm just guessing that it's her. Cut
to a shot of London from afar, with a pack of wizards and witches on
broomsticks flying towards it, then we see harry on his broom, from the
left side, with a few D.A. flying in the background, as they whizz fast
what looks like the London Bridge. And then my mind goes blurry. I
think this is wherer I got so excited that I stated clapping, and
stopped paying the utmost attention. Or maybe the teaser just ends
there, cause then we see the title, with the Harry Potter theme
starting up as they show it. FINITO.

See it for yourself when Happy Feet coems out next week. And on the internet whenever knows after that.

*EDIT - Oh yeah, it's fucking cool.

well heres my order: azkaban, half blood prince, goblet of fire, sorcerers stone, order of the phoenix, and finally chamber of secrets. my problem with order of the phoenix is that there main enemy for most of the book is the replacement headmaster. getting around her was more of the book than exploring and that annoyed the shit out of me.

Apparently his performance is getting very good reviews as well. In fact I read one thing that said he received a standing ovation on opening night I believe. It's quite a coup for him if he is indeed as good as the reveiws say he is. Equus happens to be one of my favorite books and is a very, very complex and disturbing play, and his character, Alan Strang, is the heart of the story. Good for him, I say. At least he's showing that he's got chops beyond Harry Potter.

Reviews from a couple of very, VERY, preliminary screenigns in Chicago. I will say that they're both positive, but I'm spolier visioning them anyway, becasue ... well just because. Fuck you! That's my name.

**

I should preface by saying there are a few mild spoilers, nothing that will ruin the film but if you want to go in completely unspoiled don’t read. If you want to know if your favorite part from the book was done well but don’t want too much detail it is safe.

Approximately a week ago when I was purchasing tickets at AMC River East in Chicago, to see The Number 23 (not nearly as bad as many critics say by the way) I received passes for test screenings for two films. One film was the new Jodie Foster and Terrence Howard film The Brave One, the other was a secret. All it said was that it was a new holiday film from a major Hollywood studio and that it was geared more toward the younger audience. I am not the biggest fan of Jodie Foster’s mediocre run lately so I decided to see the latter film instead.

Once we got in, a man announced they were excited for us to be the third audience anywhere to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Needless to say everyone went nuts. I was hoping this is what it was but the flyer said the film was PG and everyone seemed to think it was going to be Shrek 3, so I was pleasantly surprised. I am not a big Potter fan; I don’t like the way Rowling writes so I only read the second book in its entirety, and passed on the rest. I have however seen all of the films, which really only started getting really good with Cuaron’s “Azkaban,” which then was bested by Goblet of Fire in my opinion. The weakest of the series was without question Chamber of Secrets. So that’s where I stand in reference to the Potter franchise.

The film was a success in many, in fact most, aspects.

The acting is getting better and better and there were a few parts where Daniel Radcliff actually showed range. There really is no weak acting in the film and the standouts are Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood, and of course Gary Oldman as Sirius Black. Imelda Staunton’s Umbridge is good but wholly annoying. The movie moves along at a good pace until about halfway through and then gets bogged down a bit for most of the rest of the film. It is not horribly slow but it does drag, with the current running time being approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes there is definitely some editing that could be done to make this problem disappear.

Now I am going to get into some of what I marked on the card they ask you to fill out at the end of the screening. I was asked what parts I didn’t like. I put that I found most scenes with Umbridge in them were kind of slow and got tiring very quickly. I also found the scenes with Hagrid’s brother to be incredibly awkward and clunky, which in my opinion should be excised. What parts did I like? I loved the parts where Dumbledore’s Army was training, I really enjoyed the scene where Cho and Harry kiss, and there is a comment made by Ron shortly after that was hilarious and left the entire theater in stitches. Another scene I really liked was toward the end when Dumbledore and Voldemort battle. The effects were nowhere near finished causing this scene to be really awkward, but at a screening like this you have to be able to overlook the unfinished effects, and while the scene was not that long or anything it was done well and will no doubt look great. I love seeing wizards fight. A few other questions were which characters I liked the most which were Ron, Sirius, (which is a no brainer-Oldman is awesome) Luna, (as I understand it a lot of fans of the books were afraid of how her character wou
