A woman who was arrested after her toddler son was accidentally locked in her car on a hot summer day has notified the city she intends to sue police and fire officials, claiming she was defamed.

Guita Sazan Silverstein, 43, was arrested after she allegedly refused to let rescuers break the window to free him. She was charged with reckless endangerment and risk of injury to a minor.

The dispatcher told Silverstein that firefighters would break into the car, but Silverstein said she didn't want her window smashed.

"Would you rather your child died?" the dispatcher asked.

And she's SUING them!!!

http://www.boston.com/news/local/connecticut/articles/2006/01/24/arrested_mom_targets_police_and_fire_officials/

not sure but i think police and fireman stopped using jimmy sticks because they would get the door unlocked but would also disengage the locking mechanism? i think... maybe that was older cars without power locks

it's sad to see but it's probably sadder that a lawyer would actually take the case "maybe they have to" hopefully the judge throws it out and it will cost the lady much more in the long run

NYC Police used to give you a slim jim to open your car door if you locked your keys in your car. But then people kept suing because it "damaged" their lock mechanism, so now they stopped doing it. Now they tell you to call a locksmith, none of whom are open when you do this late at night and the ones who will come charge you $150.

Dont you just love lawyers?

Lawyers are like nuclear weapons. The other side has theirs so you have
to have yours. But once you start using them, everything gets destroyed.

she should atleast get her window paid for thats like 300 bucks like
come on there was no way to jimmy it open? god they could of
waited for her to get a key the stupid kid isn't going ot die sitting
in the car
there was no need to break the window

but there no reason to sue

just pay for her broken window jerks

you
know what would of solved this problem if kids didnt have to be in kids
seats this bugger was almost 2 years old thats old enough to walk
around and hit the stupid unlock button but no he's tired to a death
seat that they force him to be in anyways

Another stupid thing about this story is who calls the cops for a lockout? If the kid's not in danger, get AAA or call a friend to watch the car as you go home to get a spare key.

slim jims don't work on newer cars...locksmith told me that after locking keys in my car and alarm button wouldn't work

they actually put an inflatable device in the upper rear corner of the door....inflate it enough to get a wire or something similar in it to hit the unlock switch on door panel...pretty cool actually

i saw a fireman break a window on a smoking car about to go on fire...no one was in it or anything. A fireman takes his axe and breaks the drivers side window th turn the key off.

After doing so, he gets out and the woman whose car it was looked at him and says, "the door was open"

pretty funny
