I'll try not to "Moe" this up too much but this is a Spoon based topic sorry. So last night we had a game with a bunch of goons who we always seem to get into it with and this time all hell broke out. The hitting was to a level equal of some old-time hockey games in the NHL and we play in non-check league! Sure there's always some good checking, but this game was unreal.

The first huge hit was taken by them after a mean slash so our guy was pissed. Their guy came down the boards with the puck and tried a quick move toward the net. Our guy proceeded to ride him away from the net and into the boards real fucking hard. In fact, he was taken away in an ambulance with what seemed to be a separated shoulder and broken collar bone.

While this started some huge melees on the ice, things calmed down in what eventually can be called the eye of the storm. Not long after, in now the second period, one of their guys ran our goalie (our goalie is nuts) and the next thing you know he got punched, headbutted and bloodied on his way to the ice. As the refs were assessing the penalties, one of their guys then took the opportunity to high stick/slash one of our guys in the neck/face and all hell broke out again. Things finally calmed down again and all the penalties expired (some guys were tossed) and here comes their slasher for our guy at our bench shooting his mouth off. So of course, our bench grabs him, pulls him over the boards and starts kicking his ass while their bench spills onto the ice looking for blood. After a few more ejections we move on in a very chippy, rough game. To be fair, the refs called everything they could and somehow kept this game from turning into a constant brawl. Sometimes there isn't much you CAN do, but this game was crazy.

So onto the third and it's real close so finally everyone seems focused on the game again. I was wrong. They had a huge guy (around 300) on their team who was relatively quite, and had been the one helping the injured player out of his equipment and into the ambulance while the game continued. Later we were told by spectators (this game drew quite a crowd) that he was shooting his mouth off outside the rink and near the ambulance that he'd make our guy fucking pay. The only problem with that is our guy is around 270 himself and a tough mofo to boot. Their guy missed most of the other bullshit and wanted blood. Finally he had his chance when our guy came around their net on an attempted wrap-around while facing the net, and he took one hell of a run at him. I swear it might have been one of the worst hits I've seen in my life, let alone in a game I was involved in. Both guys were definately concussed and needed help to the bench bloodied and woozy. Finally things calmed down, as the actual game after all this was great. Believe it or not, the game ended in a 2-2 tie. With all that went down, a tie didn't seem to satisfy anyone and it didn't seem fair not to play out this awesome battle. I fucking love hockey!!

Cya!

It's like a koala bear crapped a rainbow in my brain!

I fucking love hockey!!

But don't you feel dirty that such a monumental game ended in an awful tie? That's why I was all for the shootouts in the regular season. But let's not get off on that tangent.

All I know is, if your team's captain had a set of balls, he would have taken control of the game, made sure all of this bullshit didn't get out of hand, and netted a game-winner. But, what can you do?! Some teams just don't have a leader like that.

sounds like a Politics thread...

tough fair play is great but i don't see any place for a stick to the neck or head, and i don't see any glory in sliding into someone while their back is turned...

however it's cool to see you're participating in something you truly enjoy, just be careful!

we don't need you coming to the poker game with a concussion, oh wait a minute, maybe we do

In this leauge anymore, you're always playing with some injury. But I also play actual check leagues for other teams and bc of this I just had my first good concusion and cracked a rib for the second time. Those cracked ribs hurt like a fucking bitch by the way. Yet that didn't stop me from missing any games or shifts for that matter.

As for the captain talk, I'm the alternate captain on the ice. I pretty much run the team overall, but defer to a great friend who's been in hockey longer then I've been alive. He's an awesome player for his age and knows how to work the refs and lines. We pretty much run the lines and refs out there together, him taking care of the D and I take care of the O.

Now the tie, it definately sucked to end that way. Yet it might have saved lives.

Seems he's a tad manic and just a touch obsessive. Let him be a detriment to the people that HAVE to deal and be with him daily. Why bother with such a person? I come across people like this from time to time and I'll usually just ignore them or occasionally be nice and talk with them for a moment, they seem to like that. You've given him more than a moment so move on brother.

We finally got these fuckers back. We beat them in brutal back to back games on Sunday to take the first annual hockey classic tournament at the Ice House this weekend. There were plenty of ejections, near brawls and of course a ton a penalties. All ended well as the hockey director heard how violent our games were getting and watched our whole final with them and saw what assholes some of them can be. Yet it was a great f'in game with us getting a very late goal in the third to take it 3-2. We had our best defenseman thrown out just before this and were forced to play the last five minutes 5-4 bc he was given a major penalty. He did knock the asshole out who already had four cross-checking/slashing/boarding penalties in the game and shouldn't have been playing since he was tossed at the end of the last game along with his insane brother. Funny thing is our guy wasn't even trying to take him out as they just met at the puck full speed at the boards and they both braced themselves and our guy just happened to protect himself better. The whole game had hits like this, but most of their guys meant it.

When their guy was tossed in the first game, he left the rink, threatened our goalie and both refs lives and then proceeded to kick all the high school kids sticks and bags in the locker room hallway on his way to their locker room. He broke a few when tossing them all over and was supposedly tossed for the championship along with 3 games of the regular season for both teams he plays on at the Ice House. Yet there he was suited up and acting like an asshole for another game so their team got what they wanted, a fucking train-wreck stlye game throughout.

It even started before the game even began as I got into it with their captain when we both had to review the rosters with the refs. I ripped into him as he lied about half their roster and tried to disguise the fact that the assholes were playing. Half their team was different from the earlier game and I knew damn well they made some calls to upgrade their team. The refs really didn't know how bad the game was going to be but we kept ourselves in check a whole lot better then they did (yet it's always this bullshit when we play these guys). Yet the championship is ours and that's all that counts.
