Israeli tourism minister shot in hotel

Senior official seriously wounded in assassination attempt

JERUSALEM, Oct. 17 - Gunmen shot and seriously wounded Israel's ultra-nationalist tourism minister Wednesday in an east Jerusalem hotel, Israeli radio has reported. The assassination attempt came a day after Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said he could agree to a Palestinian state if it met Israeli security needs.
