View Full Version : Stern Silenced Ron & Fez (Hoo Hoo)

I was listening to yesterday's R & F show on the way to work this AM. I have a MyFi and record the replays everyday -- I work during the day, so I can't listen to the show live. While driving, the reception was getting fuzzy (I broadcast my Myfi to an FM frequency: 88.5). Before long, Ron and Fez were replaced by the Howard Stern Sirius show! The station came in as clear as a bell with no static.

Very strange. It lasted for a good 20 minutes before the signal broke up. I wondered if I was picking up a signal from a Sirius radio in a nearby car. But even so, how could someone else's radio come in so clear that it drowned out my XM?

Any thoughts?

BTW, the Stern show sucked. He's boring and just sounds bitter now.

Could be your MyFi got drowned out by one, if not more, Sirius
players. I use the tape player plug in thingee to avoid that
hassle. No problems with constantly having to switch the
frequency to avoid other FM signals. Plus the fidelity is better.

Hoo Hoo

Edit - I wonder what the default frequency is for the Sirius player when it's shipped from the brick factory...
Last week, there were reports of people broadcasting a pirate signal of Stern's Sirius feed. It's possible that they were doing it again, and it came through on that frequency.

I've never had 20 seconds, though. I'm sure this is going to be a bigger problem the as all of this new media becomes more popular and mainstream.

I had a little better luck at a higher frequency with it coming in more clear, but I'm not sure if that's just where I am driving.

And now that I've finally heard Howard on Sirius, I actually have to disagree with the bitter part. The shows have been pretty loose and interesting and funny and tons of ball busting - quite a surprising change from the last couple of years, with the rants on the government and Infinity. Just my perception, though - admittedly I've been an off and on listener for 25 years, I'm particularly partial to his cast of characters, and I was hopeful he could deliver some funny radio, so I might not have been the toughest sell. Thankfully everyone has plenty of options now - all we need to do is get the Hideout on one of the services!

The Myfi has a weak broadcast signal. I have other people's crap trump my Myfi all the time. It rarely happened when I had the Roady2. Unfortunetly, I only have a CD player and not a tape deck, so I can't use the adapter. The station I tune to is the only one available for the Myfi that doesn't have a strong terrestrial radio station already on it.

I agree with Mikeyboy, it's probably a pirate. Apparently, it's been happening in the NYC area in at least two locations.

See the attached link for more...

http://www.musicradio77.com/wwwboard/messages/277087.html

I have to give Stern's lawyers credit, they're fast.

I was just on the Drudge report, and there was a story about Howard having had cosmetic surgery done 2x (cant you tell?) So I go finish what I'm posting, go back to Drudge to look for the story. . . . and . . . its not there anymore.

On the bottom right side there's a "Search Drudge" button. Put in Stern and the recent story is still there. Drudge doesn't write most of the stuff, he just links it, so the lawyers would go after the person he linked to 1st I think.

Yeah, I googled it too and there's a bunch of references to it, one on Stern's own site. But I went on Drudge around 7pm and it wasn't there, its was there around 8, then off ten minutes later. Usually Drudge leaves a story up for a day or so.

But you're right, who cares.

Stern talked about it on his show yesterday - he had some nose and chin work done 9 years ago, after the movie came out. He was lambasted pretty badly by callers and people on the show who pointed out that it really did come across as looking kind of phoney, and kind of the thing he railed against, AND they all said they were pissed that he lied to them about it (even if most of them did know or had figured it out). In the context of the show, it was kind of cool - too people who don't care, then it's no big deal.
