I've been playing for a few weeks now. Was wondering if there is anyone on the board that plays. I'm on the triumph server as Kid-Dynamo.

A friend of mine wanted to me check it out. I'm in World of Warcraft far too deeply to go to City of Heroes. I may take a look, once my new computer arrives. In which case, I'll be looking for Kid Dynamo. Dynamite Kid already taken...or just not a very original name? =o)

I, too am currently heavily into World of Warcraft. Unfortunetly I dont think my computer can handle CoH as the lag for Warcraft can hit extreme levels if a shit load of characters come into the picture

My last Star Wars Galaxies account expires at the end of this month. I thought City of Villains seemed like a cool premise but I'm not a big comic book/superhero fan. I did the WoW free trial but couldnt get into another MMO. For now I'm just waiting for SWG to either be handed to another developer, SWG2 to be announced, or hell to freeze over...Too bad the latter seems more likely...

I seriously doubt that SWG will get better. A friend of mine(who played since release) just recently quit after all the bullshit that went down with that game.

You know it turned to shit after they decided to throw commercials for it.

If i remember correctly, didnt they completely change the fighting system or some shit along with cutting down the classes to about 9 or so?

Is that the game I heard people worked for weeks to become a Jedi or other class, then when the game went live to the public you could just start as one of the classes everyone else worked for?

If so, that's the same game my buddy Grim downloaded a trial of while I was over his house. Looked boring and glitchy.

Yeah, you both are right. The game has gone through 2 major design revisions. The original game had 32 professions. Every player had 250 skill points that they could invest in different professions. Thus, there tons of different templates to play with. I bought the game with the intent of being a bounty hunter. With my skill points I was a Master Bounty Hunter, with skill points for Pistoleer, Carbineer, and Rifleman. It was a great a template.

Jedi was always a hot issue for the game. Originally the developers (Sony) didnt want to inlcude Jedi but the word was that Lucas Arts wanted them in there. Originally Jedi were n alpha class, they were designed to be better than any other template. The Jedi class itself had various skillsets from which to build a template. It was pretty cool. The catch with Jedi was threefold. First, to become one was a mystery. When the game launched noone knew who to become one, six months later the developers basically let everyone know that each character had to master some random amount of professions. Usually anyhere from 24 to all the professions. Doing that work took months even for the hard core gamers. The second catch was that Jedi could suffer permadeath. If killed 3 times, then the character would permantly die. This was extrmemly controversial and was eventually repealed. The third catch was that when Jedi used Jedi powers or a light saber in view of player characters or non-player characters (npcs), the Jedi would get a level of visibility. Once the visibilty exceeded a certain amount, the Jedi would show up on the bounty hunter terminals (terminals where Bounty Hunters take missions). Thus Player Bounty Hunters could hunt player Jedi. THe bounty hunters had tracking droids to find the Jedi, it was a cool system.

The latest change to the game which happened to November changed the game completely. The 32 professions are now 9 and Jedi are 1 you can choose to start with. There are no more templates so everyone is basically the same. Since Jedi were available from the start they were "nerfed" so that they were no powerful than any other class. Thus the Bounty Hunting was ended. Bounty Hunters could no longer hunt Jedi..This was the main reason I played the game and why I am quitting. I tried to get involved in the civil war (rebel vs imperials) but its just not compelling gameplay. There is really nothing to do anymore.

One of my sigpics here is a pic of Bounty Hunter, Aanu. I actually got very good at killing Jedi and was voted the best BH of my server. Jedi fled on site. Man did I pwn teh noob.

I had played the game of all for 5-10 minutes(could not deal with the massive lag and absolute clowns who bitch at peoples names that dont mix with the Star wars feel). Real shame as I really wanted to be a Bounty Hunter(Dengar owns your soul...Just read 'Star Wars: Tales of the Bounty Hunters')

but alas I play Warcraft as a shitty Paladin and hopefully raising my warlock to the appropriate level

I do enjoy World of Warcraft and find that my old computer handles most of the game pretty well where there are not many other characters, as such I obviously avoid cities (Ironforge and Orgrimmar above all during prime hours). The battlegrounds can be extremely frustrating with the heavy lag and occasional disconnect. The game itself I think is well done, and unlike SWG most quests fit into the story of the world rather than just "quests for credits". I watched huge groups of people drop when SWG did their combat upgrade. It's the heavy queues for the server I'm on that are almost as frustrating as the lag. Hopefully much of the lag will disappear with the new computer (coming next week!).

Unfortunetly now with this whole AQ war effort(other players will know what Im talking about) trying to get in game for certain realms is a disaster. I play on Mannoroth and last time I was on...it took me almost over an hour to log in due to the queue.

Ironforge is a complete joke when it comes to lag. Worse thing is after you use your hearthstone to get to the inn(in Ironforge) take a couple of steps and bingo, your in the pit. Find your way out, walk a couple of steps and again...in the pit.

I do agree on how quests tie in with the story and everything, as I can barely see how people would rather grind out levels upon levels with no questing at all....insanity

I was damn sexy in that game. The character creation is cooler than anything else out there.

But I played the game one day for 7 hours straight and got totally burnt out on it, but it was fun for the few months that I played it.

I was addicted to COH the first year it came out. I think I logged about 450 hours grinding along. My spines/regen scrapper Manuel Errata (50) was bad ass.

There is a player named Megs who is on all the time. The supergroup name is CECIL (after the Cecil from the Straight Dope message board). Look her up sometime. She plays all of the servers.
