Tonight I got comp tickets to see a tribute band to Queen called Almost Queen. Queen fan from day one, by the way. I was expecting the Another on bites the dust etc. kind of set-list. Wrong! They were great! They played songs from Queen 2 as well as many older obscure great Queen songs, and did them justice. Freddie was balls on fabulous! About half way into the show they had a 20 piece chorus come up and do Flash, it was amazing! Overall a great show. Are there any other cover/tribute bands worthy of mention? <strike>Garden </strike>State or Cover Band State?

HA! This is so strange.

I saw a Queen tribute band once and they were quite good. I think they were called IT'S A KIND OF MAGIC or something like that. They were the only GOOD tribute band that I've ever seen.

A few weeks ago, my friend back on Long Island saw ALMOST QUEEN (thinking they were the same band I saw) and said that THEY were the best tribute band that he'd ever seen.

I guess the kind of musician that wants to be in a Queen tribute band is the kind of musician that really wants to get it right.

NOTE:

I used to be in a band with Tom "Brian May" Cavanaugh from ALMOST QUEEN many many years ago and, I was friendly with Danny (Queens new bass player) back in the day as well. It seems Queen and cover cats and Long Island kinda go together.
