It must have been a great night to be in the Garden.  I haven't seen an unabashed love-fest like that since Don Mattingly Day at the Stadium in 1997.  It felt like there were more applause breaks than at a taping of the Tony Danza show, but then again who more loved by a city/fanbase than Mark Messier?

What's the deal with the Stanley Cup being there? Have other players
that retired had the cup there too during their retirement party? Are
the Devils going to have it at the Meadowlands too for Scott Stevens
and Ken Daneyko?

A great teammate, a great hockey player, a fierce competitor. A legend
in his sport. And most importantly, by all accounts a great guy. One of
the atheletes I've always admired the most.
