"HALBERSTADT, Germany (AFP) - A new chord was scheduled to sound in the world's slowest and longest lasting concert that is taking a total 639 years to perform. The abandoned Buchardi church in Halberstadt, eastern Germany, is the venue for a mind-boggling 639-year-long performance of a piece of music by US experimental composer John Cage (1912-1992). Entitled "organ2/ASLSP" (or "As SLow aS Possible"), the performance began on September 5, 2001 and is scheduled to last until 2639.The first year and half of the performance was total silence, with the first chord -- G-sharp, B and G-sharp -- not sounding until February 2, 2003.Then in July 2004, two additional Es, an octave apart, were sounded and are scheduled to be released later this year on May 5.But at 5:00 pm (1600 GMT) on Thursday, the first chord was due to progress to a second -- comprising A, C and F-sharp -- and is to be held down over the next few years by weights on an organ being built especially for the project." <img src="http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a350/stankfoot/bjm_sig.jpg" border="0" /> “I can imagine no way in which this thing would be considered anywhere remotely close to safe.”

I love this kinda stuff! John Cage is an absolute genius, a cultural, conceptual & philosophical giant. Long ago, he composed a piece called 4"33" which was 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence. The first piece of music devoted to the act of listening, NOT performing. Whatever was heard in that time frame (4'33") WAS the music! (very Zen). This is the diametric opposite, an incredibly long slow piece of music where sound occupies space constantly, and even requires a reinforced instrument to perform the score, just brilliant, but obviously not for the sqeamish or the close minded. I wonder if Humanity will exist long enough to hear it's completion?  <img height="418" src="http://raforum.apinc.org/IMG/jpg/shoes-2.jpg" width="400" border="0" />

Obviously, Bobo has no fear whatsoever!        I've got more fears than you've got fingers and toes! That's not my point at all.  Aside from attempts to help or comfort people in a charitable way, this board is a hobby, a distraction, a charade, a play. I have met so many peeps who post on here that I thought would be absolute monsters in person, and turned out to be very nice & friendly people. Message boards are a form of psycho drama as are most talk radio shows, ultimately they are meaningless diversions. I can't imagine taking this bullshit to bed at night. Say what you want, who cares. In my breif time on here I've seen every rule of conduct broken w/ impunity. This is the wild west except instead of shooting bullets, we're tickling each other on the ass w/ feathers.
