Personally I think R/F is one of the most liberal shows out there. Compared to O/A they are so far in left field that .. um, can't think of how to end this sentence.

It would have a nice place on Air America but they are actually nice to listen. (Ha ha?)

But yeah, Ron and Fez has become a very pro-lib show now that Fez has gone hardcore hippy.

(Disclaimer: I think Bush is one of the greatest presidents ever and would never consider voting for a D.
I think Opie is much more left wing than Anthony or Jimmy, but obviously Ron and Fez are more left leaning. Though Fez became that way after Bush made an ass of himself in office.

Not looking for a fight, honestly, but why do you see Bush as a great president?

But it's not like he's pushing his viewpoint all the time. It's a comedy show in which their viewpoints come out every now and then. If someone can't stand that viewpoint coming out ever, the answer is simple - don't listen. I don't listen to O'Riley, Limbaugh or Robertson for that very reason.

It really makes no sense for people to call up with complaints like today's. They seem to have viewpoint that Ron and Fez have no business having or expressing political viewpoints. I think Fez is moderate to (maybe) left-leaning moderate for the most part. To the extent that he's considered to be a liberal because he hates the way Bush has been handling things, well, given Bush's approval ratings, that means that over 60% of America are liberals. The same people who are complaining about Ron talking about politics with a liberal viewpoint would be up in arms if someone called in and complaine that the show is too dirty or offensive. And they are too stupid to see that there is absolutely NO DIFFERENCE.

Left, right, lib, con..... stupid labels.

I think Ron said it best when he said if there is a "side" with O'Reilly, Rush, Robertson and Bush, he doesn't want to be on that side.

Neither do I.

Why? Common sense.

Or as David Letterman put it SO beautifully to O'Reilly the other night, "60 percent of what you say is just crap." Which can be said for the others I've mentioned above.

Ron may lean left politically, but neither of them are mouthpieces for the Democratic Party. If the shit was hitting the fan with Democrats indicted on Capital Hill, they would be the first ones screaming about that too. Hell, Ron has even said he has gone years before without voting. And no one loves the Blowhard on there giving his opinion more than Ron - he likes it when both sides can come on and be articulate with their pov, because bottom line it makes for better radio.

But, as it was said earlier - Ron basically put it out there of whose side you would rather be on, even illustrating it (brilliantly) that the Delays, Hasserts, Cheneys and Bushes reminded him of the douche bags in "Animal House."

In any event - when I hear people complain about the show, I always suspect that deep down what they really are complaining about is how "Liberal" the supposedly show is.
I'd rather have hope in my soul than soap in my hole...

quote:
I think Opie is much more left wing than Anthony or Jimmy, but obviously Ron and Fez are more left leaning. Though Fez became that way after Bush made an ass of himself in office.

Ive heard Opie call himself a "moderate" but he comes across as more apolitical to me. He seems to hide behind that safe label and positions like "I dont vote because I dont like the choices" when really hes just not very interested. In fact, despite their self-labeling, none of the guys seem very political. Although Jimmy at times goes on rants that sound like regurgitations of whatever hes heard on Sean Hannitys show. Their political musings are usually shallow; for example, they all hate Hillary Clinton but dont seem to know why. Marc Maron asked them about it and they didnt seem to have an answer more substantive than "I just dont like her." Part of the silliness of this discussion of labels is that nobody seems to know the criteria upon which theyre making these distinctions - "Opie leans further left than Anthony" - how so? What positions have informed that statement?

Jimmys political identification is kind of confusing. I think he prides himself in being independent and capable of pointing out the flaws in both sides, yet dedicates 95% of his criticism to "the left" or liberals, which is odd in itself considering that he leads a rather liberal lifestyle. I personally think he falsely identifies liberals with a small sect of whiny, politically correct activists rather than guys like Ron and/or Fez. So he aligns himself with "the opposite" - what he perceives to be the tough, politically incorrect crowd. Him and Anthony seem terrified of being identified as liberals, so they constantly attack liberals and make half-hearted asides about how bad the right can be along the way. And many times theyre simply misinformed. During the presidential election, Jimmy seemed to form opinions based on information he found in Bush/Cheney commercials. But you would think that with Republicans running the House, Senate and White House, an independent, fair-minded guy such as Jimmy would have more criticism than the occassional, 3-second "Conservatives are awful with free speech" squeezed inside a 3-minute tirade on the left.

As for Ron & Fez, theres no need to guessing which way "the show leans." They both offer their own opinions, and they seem to be generally liberal. Case closed. Ron has said plainly that hes a liberal, and God bless him. Fez seems to be on the same level. Theyre not pretending to be impartial news reporters, so theres no need in discerning what "bias" there might be.

I can tell that Fez is somewhat of a political junkie, and while hes critical of the current administration, he doesnt really articulate any obvious liberal viewpoints. As a relatively new listener (since the XM arrival), Im unsure of Fezs past political affiliation. I know he was a Republican, but do any long-time listeners know why he identified himself as one?

"Miss Right-Wing Fez"

While Ron does tend to be a bit left leaning, he's hardly a knee jerk liberal and doesn't march in lock step with any political party. He seems to take a common sense approach to how he views the world's problems and how to solve them.
A lot like Bill O'Reilly claims to do.
Fez has most definitely softened in his support of the Republican party and it seems to coincide with his fairly recent questioning of his faith. Yes, he was once a God-fearing Southern gentleman but the turns his life has taken over the past few years has changed the way he views things.
Self discovery is a life long process it would seem.
I respect and admire anyone who is passionate about their beliefs but still takes the time to discuss matters with an open mind.
That's why I love these guys.

But, as it was said earlier - Ron basically put it out there of whose side you would rather be on, even illustrating it (brilliantly) that the Delays, Hasserts, Cheneys and Bushes reminded him of the douche bags in "Animal House."

I could see Scooter Libby getting raped in prison like Marmalard.

Hastert? That guy has "Flounder" written all over him.

hard to tell how far left, as they are radio personalities - especially Ron who likes to play both sides against each other to show how silly this can be - he'll jump sides on the radio at the drop of a hat and pretend he was on that side all the time. Classic Ron.

even if both parties nominate people who are very moderate, and somehow
the Democrats nominate someone worthwhile and the Republican's nominate

that Kerry was "somewhat worthwhile" is a laugh. He was just the
turd that didn't sink after Dean turned into sreaming retard. If
Kerry had changed his opinion about issues any more often he would have
needed to hire a full-time staff just keep up with his contradicting
opinions. Who the hell wants a president like that besides the
French? Even the Germans went with a conservative this time.

And as far as ANY national poll goes - I'll never
belive them because polls can be made to reflect whatever the
poll-taker wants. I'll go ask a crowd of palmleaf weaving hippies
what they think about the war and say that 100% of those polled opposed
the war :) Another good example is that for all the crazy shit
that people did (actors and musicians included) the country still
elected the same guy who so many hated with such venom. Bottom
line is that there are people out there who will always preach doom and
gloom in hopes that people will give them more power and then magically
the same problems become "not so bad".
