Whose your Messiah Now? Favorite sci-fi movie Jesus stand in [Archive]

Not to be confused with favorite actor who has played Jesus in a movie...

Some suggestions from the world of science fiction and fantasy films...

"Neo" from "The Matrix" (he is The One" - even his name is an anagram for that)

"John Connor" from "The Terminator" (a savior with the initials "J.C.)

"E.T." from "E.T." (he rose from the dead, he healed things)

"Aslan" from "Narnia" (pretty obvious)

"Anakin from "Star Wars" (immaculate conception) - what about Luke?

"Harry Potter" from "Harry Potter" (tons written on whether it is an evil series of books, or a parody; even the name 'Potter' people have found Biblical references)

"Frodo" from "Lord of the Rings" (tempted by evil, easy to forgive the treachery of friends; someone could argue that having to carry the ring parallels Jesus carrying his own cross)

"Dorothy" from "Wizard of Oz" (learns many lessons along the way; is also tempted by evil)

"King Arthur" (Lots of things you can read in between the lines, including Disciples/Knights of Round Table)

If this poll sucks, "Other" is open for that as well!

Trivia time! Boris Sagal, director of The Omega Man is the father of Katey Sagal, TV's Peg Bundy on Married With Children, and the voice of Leela on Futurama!=Awesome pic. The Omega Man scared the living piss out of me; one of many movies I was carted off to as a kid. Check out Vincent Price in 'The Last Man on Earth' for an earlier version, and the book 'I Am Legend; by Icantremember Matteson. Great read.I guess 28 Days Later sorta covered the genre, but hell, re-make this mofo and bring it up to date. I love post-apocylyptic movies.

So, here's my natural follow-up question (thanks for chiming in, all of yous) - do you think that this has become a crutch of Sci-Fi authors/filmmakers? With SO MANY examples out there, at some point does it lose something when the deeper level the storyteller is trying to tell, turns out not to be all that deep or original?

I'd rather have hope in my soul than soap in my hole...
