I read this story a long time before they thought to make the movie and quite honestly, it was a very good story regardless of the gay aspect to the thing.  Its more a forbidden love story and it was moving.

When marketed correcrtly, red staters have no problem embracing the gay. <img height="220" src="http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/images/topgay6.jpg" width="300" border="0" />I have a feeling Brokeback may not play so well in red state America because it might hit too close to home for many manly men who remember fondly that little crush that did (or didn't) go too far years ago. They may not be rushing out the theatres to see it, but wait until we start reading the strories about how it becomes the number one Netflix rental in North Carolina and Oklahoma months from now.So much attention on Ang Lee - I can't believe people are overlooking that Larry "I Saved The Western Dammit" Mcmurtry is the screenplay author (and executive producer) of it. In edition to his plethroa of westerns (including the Pulitzer Prize winning Lonesome Dove), there are his books Terms of Endearment and Last Picture Show. Straight with at least one kid, he is hardly a man with a GAY agenda.

So what's the alternative?Making films as bland and dull and middle of the road as possible so hopefully nobody charges a single brain cell while watching it?Really, what you're describing is just a larger scale version of the "movies cause people to be violent" line of thinking.There's room for all kinds of films out there...but we're supposed to be worried about people are going to react to them like they're dangerous weapons?  Come on.

So what I don't get is the casting in this movie.  Jake Gylinhall and Heath Ledger are total fruits to begin with.  Its not very shocking that they're gay cowboys.  If they wanted to spice it up they would have cast Jack Pallance and Harrison Ford.  Anyone else have any casting suggestions?

This is "Cinema". Entertainment for us high brow sophisticated types.  I
cant help but read a little partisanship into this. With how many times
Bush has been called a cowboy over the past few years. But for the most

Question for those that have actually SEEN it.Ennis calls Jacks/Jacks wife to find out if Jack is, in fact, deceased.  When he identities himself to her, does she say:A) "I know you.  You were Jacks fishing buddy.  And Hunting buddy" OR B) "I know you, you were Jacks fishing buddy. And HUMPING buddy" Serious question.  Please settle this so my wife and I can stop arguing aboot it.
