View Full Version : RNF Phone screeners SUCK

Maybe it is just me, but it seems like who ever answers the phones for RON and FEZ are not in touch with the comedy of the show. More then one time I've called-up with something to add to the show from the old school (back in the wnew days) and I had to explain it to the screeners.Today I called in to add to the TOOKIE bit when BLOW-Hard said Tookie Wilson. Ronnie ran with the Mookie Wilson reference. I called in a radio psychic That Davey Johnson and Wally Backman(1986 METS) are going to be put to death tonight. I had to explain to the screener who they were and spell the names. He then made it sound like It would not make the Air. 2 min's later Ronnie set it up and put it on.It just seems if these guys are the first step for the callers adding to the show they should be in sync with Ron and fez and the comedy of the show. <a href="http://milfordpoliceunion.com/"></a>Need More COW BELL

Gentle sir, we already have a plethora of threads devoted to Billy where this obvious set up belongs....<img src="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/wink.gif" border="0" />True - it's tough to get good phone screeners - someone with some sort of show history in the memory banks, not to mention someone who knows what's going on right at that moment - AND to tell a bad caller from a good one. In DC, they had to rely, for the most part, on the interns (not sure about XM), and the problem with that is once someone finally gets up to speed with the show, then their semester is over and they are gone, and the cycle begins a-new.Billy was great at that, but is that something he would want to do full time? Maybe - if it meant occasional 3rd mic and ball busting time. Even though a good chunk of the calls they take are unscreened, Don & Mike's phonescreener, Joe, has been with them forever and does a great job. Maybe one of the best. When WB left R&F in DC, I was kind of hoping Joe would throw his hat in the ring for a job with Ron and Fez as producer, but I guess in the end he had a pretty good deal where he was/is.

I'd rather have hope in my soul than soap in my hole...

I agree with you Curtoid, Billy was a great phone screener.  He knew what jokes Ronnie was looking for and did not have repeats fo the same joke or bit.  Billy also would keep people from calling in more than once a show. Only on rare occassions would people be able to call in more than once a show even regulars.

Billy was the best. For some reason, I didn't like him at first. But
then one time I had a joke for a bit they were doing, but Billy told me
they were moving on. So I told him the joke anyway and he giggled like
a little girl. That was when I understood why R&F loved the guy.

Billy was the best.  When I called I layed out EXACTLY what I wanted to say and asked if he thought it was funny.  He would say yes or no, and since I usually did well with what he said yes to I learned to trust his screener judgement.These new kids probably have no idea what you're talking about unless they saw it on MTV or some utter bullshit like that.

Between the lousy phone screeners and the phones constantly crashing, I doubt we'll ever get a Comedy Pyramid going. They tried two days in a row. Yesterday, it was the phones. Today it was the screeners letting people through, who didn't get that they were trying to build a pyramid.

I will give Billy props in that he is a good call screener.  The problem is, the job probably falls to an intern or an assistant producer by now, and I'm guessing that since XM is not an AFTRA shop (that is JUST A HUNCH - I HAVE NO IDEA IF THEY ARE AFTRA OR NOT) the rate of pay for a call screener is probably very low.
