I'm starting to think that maybe I need to see a shrink and get some anti-anxiety medications... Everytime a siren goes off in my town, I think its the siren for the nucelear power plant 10 miles away, when my building got evacuated last week, I was standing there shaking for hours, I checked my mail about 5 thousand times yesterday even though it was just the regular bills I always get. I didn't go to the bar crawl becuase I kept thinking about anthrax and how I could get infected with it. Noises make me jump and my heart race. Everytime I get any sort of sniffle or cold, I think they got me with some sort of bioterrorism. Are you guys having thoughts like this too? Or should I go see a doctor? I appreciate any insight you guys have.

We're all a little scared to petrified. And I know it's been said, but if you let these things bother you, and alter your daily life, then the terrorists win.
But I guess that if this problem is paralyzing your life to the point that you KNOW it's unusual for you, then yea, go to a professional. Or at the very least, ask HordeKing.
But be strong. Know that you have the strength of the ronez.net board behind you...well, actually, I guess that's a little depresing. HA!

Good luck. Be strong! USA!USA!USA!

ps-I'm opening my weird mail outside too!

I think it's reasonable to be a little scared.. it's difficult to tell exactly what's going on most of the time. The news has been awful about reporting stories before the facts have come in and authorities are giving mixed signals about going back to business as usual while being on heightened alert.

A little fear in these times may be healthy. It could help you to react properly in case of emergency.

I started <a href="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=52&Topic=4753&RequestTimeout=9000">this thread</a> to try to talk myself out of fearing Anthrax a little.

Don't fret.

I felt really bad when I read your post on friday saying you weren't coming to the bar crawl. You had been so excited about attending I knew you really had to be pretty freaked out to have such a change of heart.

Like Moe and Scott have said, it's perfectly normal and acceptable to have a healthy sense of fear in these times, but if you find that it is crippling you and forcing you to live your life differently than you would like, by all means seek help of some sort.

There is absolutely no shame in dealing with your troubles, no matter how you choose to do so.

Hang in there, Missy. You've got a lot of people rooting for you.

Yeah, I'm a bit freaked, waiting for the other shoe to drop. I've run over in my head a few times if my car could outrun a nuclear blast (I think it could, fuck the scientists).

But with the second wave of Terrorism being Anthrax-By-Mail to 20 people, I'm not AS worried. Apparently their plan is for every American to have Anthrax at one point or another in their life by 2037.

In any case, I know a few good bomb shelters over here in Boogie Down New Ro, so if everyone's that concerned, we'll storm the place. BYOB. When we run out of food, we eat the fat ones first.

Hey Missy --- Like GVAC said, I was looking forward to meeting you at the Bar Crawl II as well -- I had a feeling you would not come by the post before you were even evacuated from your workplace -- I guess all I can say is be cautious but try not to be paranoid. We will all get through this together. The Anthrax scare is really being targeted to corporations and the media - probably to get the most exposure (pardon the pun). I don't think you will get any letters that will contain Anthrax -- just try no to be so scared and if you keep feeling that way, it might be a good idea to see a Doctor. But we don't think you're crazy - just scared abit -- that's ok. We are all here for you -- We all need to be united in any way we can.

I'm not scared.

Despite all the hype, only 1 person has died from Anthrax throughout this whole scare. Thousands have died from the flu in that period.

Even after Sept. 11th your chances of getting killed by terrorism is infinitesimal.

Before Sept. 11th, did you shake uncontrollably every time your rode in a car? Every time you shopped at a convienence store? Every time you worked out? Your chances of being hurt doing those activities is far far greater.

Paxil works.

The great new slogan that's being used is "Live Brave" - and I think that should be used by everyone.

Yes, what happened sucked. My theory is, I'd rather die living my everyday life and doing what I want to die then die living in fear wondering when the other shoe is gonna drop.

<b>Live brave.</b>

Z.

I've been panicky for the past year, its just gotten worse becuase of the current situation. I was just starting to calm down, then the FBI issued that warning and it got me freaked again. Hopefully I can resolve this myself, if not, I'm going to see the crazy doctor in a week or two :) Thanks guys

AMB - Some fear in this situation is normal. We have not recovered yet from the WTC and we are being (very) slowly experiencing some bioterrorism one person at a time.

Remember though that the media greatly contributes to our perception of the personal nature of the threat.

If you want to talk more about it AIM or e-mail me.

There's a certain level of fear in me. But I'm more of the mindset that, if I now live my life in fear, than I've let the terrorists win. And I refuse to lose to some asshole who's primary mode of trasportation is a camel. So I'm laughing in the face of danger. Anyone got any suspicious mail they want opened? I'll do it for ya. Naked, I don't care. I mean, that's usually how I open it anyway. My mailman gives ME a tip on Christmas.

And this is a bit off topic, but Pootertoot, that's one of the best damn sigs I've ever seen.
