So i stopped watching wrestling for a few years after the attitude era, and ive been going thru watching all the previous wrestlemanias. Can someone tell me why they got rid of Shelton Benjamin? The guy had a good look, wrestled well and had some crazy spots in ladder matches

Took him forever to finally develop a personality and then they got rid of him!!
Team Angle was the best.

He couldnt cut a promo for shit, but I loved him as a tag team with Charlie Haas.

They took a really great tag team, split them up, then aborted the whole tag division around the same time.
He was a good worker. His Mama bit was entertaining but they are better as a tag team

He seems like he would've been a great guy in old school ECW. It seems like such a waste cutting a guy with that kind of talent because hes uncomfortable talking.

Maybe if they didnt inexplicably just stop using managers at as well as the tag teams they wouldve been able to use him properly and gotten him on track with his career. Its amazing that they dont use managers anymore. The only one they really use is Vicki, and shes great. But she only got that shot out of a favor to Eddie.
Such a valuable resource they ignore. Think how many legendary guys you never wouldve heard of if they didnt have guys like Heenan, Blassie, Jimmy Hart, Cornette, Paul E., Gary Hart and other incredible managers.
Just another part of wrestling WWE needs to fix.

Say what you want about Cena, but when he is unleashed, he can go toe to toe with anyone on the Mic, no matter who it is. And we are learning that includes the Rock.
Lets face it and the Rock feels it and looks annoyed by the fact that he is not going to cut it with the same old schtick on this feud, he is going to have to bring other things but the same mail it in same old catch phrases that he got by with because he is the Rock.
Cena seems to REALLY not like him and is DRILLING him.
Even the fans towards the end where starting to turn. His schtick can get by in skits alone, but toe to toe LIVE with a gifted mic man like Cena, its not going to cut it.
Philly, NY, he will get ROASTED.

Cena didnt do bad tonight, but this round went to The Rock. He buried him with his promos. The merchandise had me DYING. Cena had a shot to hang in there, I liked his first promo, and even what he ended with, but he fucking blew it by going with the goofball routine again. I fucking hate that. The guy just cut a promo calling you his bitch 3 inches from your face, and your giggling and making goofy faces like a fucking clown. Thats why I cant take him seriously.
You know what makes wrestling good? The ability to get sucked into it and suspend disbelief. Alot of these guys are best friends but they suck you in to make you feel its serious. Perfect example was HBK and HHH tonight. Michaels couldve played the goof role, laughing at HHH thinking hes better then him. But he didnt. Once he made his point he looked dead serious. Thats what I want from Cena. Act like you want to fucking fight the guy. For the fans sake.
Oh and he got The Rock good with the Tooth Fairy, but lets not forget he just got booed out of his home fucking city. So much so he even mentioned it when he came out. Id love to see him try that mini Lambeau Leap in Philly.
By the way, how you guys like that pop for my boy Santino. Maybe pop of the night right there. Love that guy.

The rock won the skits which lets face it, its not hard because he is a great entertainer.
But he got once again, BURIED live.

Doink...I mean Cena, is trying way too hard to prove he isnt scared shitless when The Rock is in his face. It's a nervous smile. Cena has to do the aww shucks and giggle-girl thing because if he did anything other than that, he wouldnt be able to hide his fear.
Cena is good on the mic until The Rock gets in his face and calls him a little boy and a bitch to his face ( in front of his wife no less) and all Doink can do is smile and nod in agreement.
Then when Rock exits the ring, bad ass, confident Cena gets fired up. No more smiles. Ironic?

You do realize that for the last 50 years every time a wrestler has talked shit to another what sold their promo was the other wrestlers reaction, right? If when the Road Warriors came out and told Ric Flair they would break him in half, think how dumb they wouldve looked if Flair just giggled and made faces at them. But he didnt. He either looked scared to death or mad as a motherfucker. Why? Because as a professional, thats how you sell an angle.
I dont blame this all on Cena, creative has to have something to do with this. But think how ridiculous he looks when in one promo, he says how this is the biggest match of his career, how he NEEDS to win this one. How hes fighting a guy that has accomplished everything there is to accomplish in the WWE.....only to laugh at him later and act like he doesnt take him seriously later that same night. Is that how a normal person would act going in to the biggest match of their career?
The thing that made his promos the last 2 weeks so good was how he looked like he was taking this so seriously. Dropping that last night was what tanked him this week.
brettmojo
03-06-2012, 07:53 AM
They completely reversed roles from last week.
Cena came off this week like that kid in high school who'd talk shit and act tough but when someone actually got in his face would laugh it off like it isn't serious and he's just messing around then would act tough again in front of their friends when you'd walk away.
OH HAHA THAT'S THE ROCK WITH HIS MIAMI HURRICANE'S SHIT HAHA AMIRITE??? BOSTON!! THIS IS BOSTON!!
Last week Cena came out, dropped "a bomb", and walked away and this week Rock did the same thing. Instead of having Cena act flustered he played up to Boston like a loudmouth little bitch seeking approval from his friends after having his balls handed to him.
I really hate they're reigning in the Rock to have him play down to Cena's level of mediocrity. The writing on his arm bit, the acting flustered bit... It's lame. It's dishonest. The guy grew up in the business, was born into the business, it isn't him "not being able to do it anymore"... It's having to do a program with fruity pebbles. "Fruity pebbles" which is more memorable than anything Cena has ever done or said in ten years... That's sad and that's indicative of exactly what Cena is. Bland. Unmemorable... Like strip mall kung pao chicken.
Doink...I mean Cena, is trying way too hard to prove he isnt scared shitless when The Rock is in his face. It's a nervous smile. Cena has to do the aww shucks and giggle-girl thing because if he did anything other than that, he wouldnt be able to hide his fear.

-- It was reported earlier this week that The Rock bought a $3.5 million mansion last month located in Southwest Ranches, Florida.
In an interesting celebrity connection, The Rock's new mansion is being fixed up by rapper Vanilla Ice as part of his "Vanilla Ice Project" show on the DIY Network show, where he and his team renovate houses.
If I was WWE Creative, I take this oppotunity to get Ice a little exposure for his show, while giving The Rock a nice little internet jab promo.
Im thinking a Twitter vid where The Rock welcomes his fans to his new home, where hes having some work done, pan to a guy wearing a Cena hat and Rise Above Hate shirt cutting some lumber and have Rocky calling him over by saying "Yo John! Hey Cena come here..." and have the guy turn around and its Vanilla Ice.
Considering they are letting Cena do his rap gimmick this week it sounds like a perfect opportunity. No doubt it will be missed by everyone in charge.

I just watched. I give Cena the round just like I did 6 days ago. He was awesome. Too bad they dont go back to that gimmick, Id like him all the time again.
That being said, The Rocks segment was pretty funny. I expected it to be horrible but he had me laughing, and he had The King and Cole cracking up. I was never a fan of the whole singing routine with him but I thought tonight was pretty good. The lyrics about the grown men had me laughing out loud.
Did Cena get caught cheating on his wife or something? The reason I ask is besides the lyrics tonight, last week there was a guy holding a sign that read "Cena Cheats On His Wife" and I was curious if that was some kind of behind the scenes gossip or something I was unaware of.
I have a question for those saying The Rock is repeating what he did in 98. He sang on a guitar then about someone else, and he sang on one tonight. Does this mean Cena is repeating himself from 2003 because he rapped about someone then and rapped about someone else now? I dont get it.
I really hope they finally let these guys start getting physical next week. Im tired of talking. They need to fight. I read somewhere they dont want them fighting because it would lessen the hype for Mania which I think is fucking retarded. Didnt Rock hit Hogan with a Rock bottom, and then get hit my a truck that Hogan was driving before their match? I dont remember that taking away from the hype of that match.

Im pretty sure I heard Cena ONCE AGAIN mentioning notes on the wrist. And the Tooth Fairy. But it doesnt make his promo bad in my opinion. I gave him credit, I thought he was good. And Im pretty sure that I was the one that said Cena was going to take this one tonight last week.
But Im being honest, I thought the singing segment was going to be godawful, and I dont think it was. It was legitimately funny. Im trying to think about when The Rock mentioned Cenas wife or mom before, but I must be forgetting it. What makes me laugh is you cry about regurgitating stuff yet admit the part you laughed at is one of the things hes repeated the most! I expected the thing to be really bad and the crowd to turn on him but I gotta admit, he had them in his hand tonight. That being said, I still gave the round to Cena.

I never said he deserves a main event spot, but he does deserve a Mania match, and a decent mid card one at that. I have said many times I HATE the name but if thats whats holding him back the WWE should just change it like they did with Johnny Nitro.

Its wrestling. Guys say the same shit all the time. Pretty sure The Undertaker mentioned taking someone to hell tonight for the 8 millionth time. If its said in a way that makes me laugh, I dont care if I heard it before.
And I find Taker just as old and not trying as the Rock.
Cena's re metions go back 2 weeks.

Two weeks before WM and this RAW sucked the caring right out of me.
I literally nodded off during the HBK/Taker segment.
I agree with Newport king that the whole "extra layer" they threw on the Punk/Jericho match is stupid. Just goes to show that every single match has to have some BS "story" behind it, it can't just be best vs best for the title. That change has paranoid WM Vince written all over it. Punk completely over sold it too.
Cena was edgy and serious in his "rap" tonight. Something he needed to be. I also pointed out those were his "heel" attire. He threw PG out the window and lanced The Rock with some real heat.
The Rock came out with the same boring Watered Down catch phrases and gimmick BS. Was it entertaining? Sure, but it didn't make me feel that he was attacking Cena on the same level Cena was attacking him. Plus it was MORE prepared material which apparently "The Great One" is only capable of delivering.
Biggest match of all time my Aunt Tillys ass!

Didnt even notice the Undertaker fuck up the date. I kind of half agree with Kevin, even though im a big Ziggler fan, it sucks that he caught on with THAT name. I said before, with Jericho coming back, i think that pushed Dolph out of the spotlight with Punk. I mean the guy completely carried Sheamus tonight in what was essentially a squash, but STILL had a great match. I've heard him and Kofi have been stealing the house shows lately. But unfortunately they seem to like keeping Kofi in the just about dead Tag Team division.
The Jericho/Punk your father was an alcoholic thing really bothered me. It reeks of something Vince Russo would have done.

As far as Cena/Rock, ive been on Cena's side suprisingly. I'm by no means a fan, but think hes done better with this angle than Rock. Rocks whole segment wasnt bad, just the douchey We Will Rock you part where he fucked up every other line. Word. Life.

The card is at least shaping up to be stronger then last years WM. I figure they will squeeze in a divas match and Orton vs Kane. More so because Orton deserves to be at WM although in my opinion Kane does not.
I think the only thing that would get me into the HIC match would be if it had been a triple threat. Still I gotta believe that this match is gonna be weak on all sides.
Ziggler and the other good up & comers will have plenty of future WMs and summerslams to be featured on.

You have to stop with the rock. He does not have it anymore.

It showed how could he really is, too bad after mania hes gonna go right back to being Hulkster Junior. Thats what bothers me most. Its one thing to hype a guy and he just doesnt have the talent, eventually it just falls thru and thats that. Its another when you know the guys got the talent, yet hes saddled with a stale and corny gimmick where funny enough, he does the same thing people have criticized The Rock for, spitting out the same shit over and over.

Again, I just dont see it. Not sure what he said last night that he was saying 14 years ago with the exception of his regular "Know your role" shtick. Which was sprinkled in but not overshadowing the segment. And which EVERY wrestler that has ever gotten over goes back to when they return. Is that what you dont like? That he does the FINALLY... stuff and shit like that? Because to expect him to just drop all that is unrealistic and silly if you ask me. Its like Steve Austin coming back for a match, but you dont want him to say "Thats the bottom line...". When people buy tickets to see these guys, and make no mistake, most of that crowd last night came to see The Rock among others, thats what those people expect to hear.

Ive always said hes one of the classiest guys in wrestling. Besides all the Make-A-Wish stuff, he goes above and beyond to help out those in need. There was a kid I grew up with that was an Indy wrestler named Trent Acid. He died a couple years back at the age of 29. When his family put on a benefit wrestling show at the ECW Arena, Cena donated a gold rolex that spun for the charity auction. The guy is definitely all class.
That being said Id like to think he could still do all those things without the cartoony superhero gimmick.

I agree someone has to be, I just dont think they have to be that squeaky clean dorky character. Austin wasnt. HHH wasnt. Bret Hart, HBK, Undertaker. None of them were.
While hes like Hogan, Hogan came along with a boom of national TV. His act was fresh and didnt come across as fake and hokey. Cenas does. When people talk about the best gimmicks are just the person being themself with the volume turned up. Like an Austin or a HHH, I dont see that with Cenas post Marine gimmick. I saw it more with his rapper gimmick which turned out to be true considering he actually wrote his own raps and put out a record.

The examples you gave were people who were carrying the company during the attitude era. They were playing to the 18-35 male demo so they didn't need corny colors for shirts etc. hogan & Cena were both playing to kids so the gimmicks needed to be hookey.
Cena does wear way to much of his own merch when he's out there. He's like a walking billboard. It's what made him an easy target for the Fruity Pebbles line. He try's to say that's the real Cena, but am I supposed to believe that any random Wednesday Afternoon I'd see him at a Walmart wearing a Purpule shirt and wristbands?

They have Orton locked into that whole "tweener" angel so if they need a convenient heel he'll just turn up the angry/crazy Orton.
Punk has played heel for some time before the fans turned him face. It remains to be seen if when he drops the belt he stays face. I can't imagine Orton or Cena will go much longer without a strap it's been almost a year for both of them.

Not necessarily. It could be used to set up a new feud for Cena for after Mania. Say at some point in the match, Cena is about to give The Rock the FU, hes got him on his shoulders, spinning he hits the ref knocking him out. The Miz runs in, kicks Cena before he can, and gives him his finisher. Then hes yelling at The Rock to pin him, The Rocks looking around unsure if he should. He starts smiling, goes to give the Miz a high five, and instead he rock bottoms him.
When he does pin him he gets a 2 count, The Miz rolls out, and the match continues. Doesnt really affect the outcome, but the next night Cena has someone to blame and go after if he loses.

If I were a betting man I would put money on that exact scenario. Cena will need someone to feud with until Rock feels like working again, around Summer Slam. This gives him something to do for a while...& no doubt he'll be just as enthusiastic about that angle as he was with Kane. A real win/win for the fans.

What if that is what happens he comes out after the match when rock and cena recreate the rock hogan handshake kick miz's ass with some back and forth finishers ... A people's elbow into a 5 knuckle shuffle to a rock bottom to an attitude adjustment
Then cena turns heel and aa's the rock

Well listen I can understand not being enthusiastic about doing an angle with Kane where you have to pretend to believe in the supernatural and act like a 4 year old thats afraid of the boogeyman. But if hes put in a feud with The Miz, he should be enthusiastic about it. Your supposed to be the man right? Well your job as the man is to help make young stars. He helped make Edge and Randy Orton, but hasnt with much else. The Nexus angle fizzled quick, as did Seamus' first title run.
He shouldnt need a superstar from 10 years earlier to come in to get him into an angle. Especially when all hes done since the guy came back is cry that hes never there and how hes there every week.

Took my son to his first Raw tonight. Im sure on TV it wasnt a killer show but live it was alot of fun. They didnt really progress The Rock / Cena storyline tonight but I give Cena credit for finally selling a decent facial expression. For those that want to see The Rock wrestle on Raw I dont know what to tell you. You have to be stupid to expect that. Theyve been building this match up for a year, they arent just going to magically have him come in and start wrestling on Raw for free. At least he did something physical. But apparently his finishing move is not impressive anymore. Kevin should just walk around with 8 wristbands on while wearing jean shorts and pump up sneakers.
Also, I know he wasnt on TV long, but after it went off the air, instead of a match they had Miz come out, and The Rock interrupted his tirade. After Rock cut a promo on him, Miz started talking about Wrestlemania (to chants of "you wont be there") and he said he wanted to be in The Rocks corner to help him win. Rock thought about it, said OK, shook his hand and Rock Bottomed him before dropping a Peoples elbow. Sounds almost like what I predicted for Miz at Mania.
I was happy with the show and my son said it was "awesome". First time hes ever used that word, but then again hes 2 1/2. By the way, our seats were pretty good....

Crazy talk. The Rock entertained more people in 1999 then Cenas done his entire career. What exactly did Cena do tonight that was so impressive? Besides finally give a reaction that a guy going into a huge Mania match should give? Am I supposed to cheer like crazy for that match with Mark Henry? Thats what you consider entertaining? I will say this though. At one point I sat my son on the rail and said "Look, John Cenas gonna come out" right before his match and my son literally YELLED.."NO DADDY. No John Cena. The Rock daddy, The Rock." At least I know Im raising him right.

For the record it looked like he almost killed him with that FU. I thought he dropped him on his head.

I was not saying for the career, i mean this feud.
The Rock has been exposed to having nothing or not caring enough to put any kind of effort what so ever.
And that's because he does not.
The Rock is a phony simple as that.
And I can't root for him.
You can be blind and eat up his nonsense but thats on you.
And if you liked Cena so would your son. That proves nothing. They are all the way at that age.

Not true actually. My friend was there with his 6 year old. My friend hates Cena, his son loves him. We actually teased the kid last Mania when The Rock rock bottomed Cena. The kid got so pissed off.
Im not sure what it is Im eating up though. The Rock doesnt need the money, thats a proven fact. Even if he did come back to launch his Twitter LAST YEAR, why sign up for Mania this year? Or Survivor Series? Or 2012's Summerslam? Or next years Mania? If he didnt care, he wouldnt even bother. Its not like his movie career is stalling.
I like him because hes voicing all the things Ive hated about Cenas gimmick the last 5 years. Of course in a feud he has to call out the actual person but everything hes said has been shit Ive complained about for years now.
- The corny catchphrases
- The goofy colored outfits
- The catering to 5 year olds
- The basic PG direction of the WWE.
I know Cenas not really the one responsible for most of this but hes the face of the franchise, and if you really want it to change when a wrestler actually can say the things that are wrong, (eg. CM Punks huge promo) you cheer it. You back it up. In hopes that somewhere King Vince will notice and make a change.

I was there tonight....it's a shame cause the actual show ended with the Miz trashing Philly and then the Rock coming out to trash the Miz and then getting the "people's elbow".
Why can't off air shit get put on air? So much better....

No, we heard that which left a lot wondering what exactly it was he said.. It was presented on TV like he dropped something truly awful that you'd see on HBO or something.. Now knowing what he did say the followup line doesn't even make any sense. He's going to beat bullshit out of Jericho?
I don't know if this came across live or not but this family values storyline strikes me as something CM Punk wanted absolutely no part of but one he couldn't even worm his way out of. It's a really shitty last minute Vince panicking before WM angle.

If you know anything about Punk, this storyline doesn't bother him at all. Infact I think he embraces it. My confusion from the crowd is how they were so behind Punk with this straight edge stuff and not more in favor with Jericho. This is a town who loves to drink right? I was disappointed that this Philly crowd didn't embrace Jericho more and chant CM Drunk. Oh well.....guess things were different in my day when it was acceptable to wear a Hawaiian shirt and a straw hat in the front row......

During the Big Show vs. Kane match on Raw, former ECW World champion Shane Douglas pulled off a mask and ripped off an outer shirt, revealing himself to be sitting at ringside. Douglas then attempted to get fans to chant for ECW. It was obviously a promotional stunt to gain awareness for next month's Extreme Reunion event in Philadelphia.
Fans surrounding Douglas reacted and there were some small chants, but WWE's production crew quickly shot around Douglas during the last minute of the match.

That Taker/HBK/HHH segment was rough and didn't do any real good at furthering the plot of that story plus Taker is growing worse on the mic.
I think there was just about enough of the Rock and Cena tonight. At this point the talk is cheap on both sides, where is the physicality? I'm not saying a match on RAW but how about the Rock costing Cena this match with Henry? Having 2 faces in a match is boring.
Punk/ Jericho is shaping up nicely. This will obviously be the best wrestled match of the night.
Still though I'm not sold on buying this PPV.

This I agree with. I was hoping for a Cena posedown after his win followed by a sneak attack Rock Bottom. Then have Cena do the same to him this week. Kind of like they did with Rock and Austin awhile back. Instead from what I heard on Raw all they talked about was Cenas car accident, which was nothing but a fucking fender bender. Thats the kind of shit that annoys me with the WWE and Cena. Still trying to make him look like Superman. Someone rear ended him while they were stopped, he didnt roll his car then come and wrestle.

I saw him wrestle once while in Japan. The New Japan and All Japan style fits wrestlers like Albert and Scott Norton very, very well. But being able to wrestle in Japan doesn't translate into WWE performance. Of course, the people who run the WWE are more to blame for the problem than the wrestlers who became successful in Japan. I mean, ECW's Taz or Rhino should have been great in the WWF/E but we all know how that whole thing went.

It's my sincere hope that the more Triple H takes over behind-the-scenes, the more the in-ring product improves. In 5 years I'm sure I'll be missing the days of Vince not being able to make up his mind about what direction the company is going in.

Just watched the last Raw before Mania. Most of the show sucked. This Raw used to be one of the biggest of the year. locking every Mania match into place. Tonights....did nothing to get me hyped for Mania.
The only good part of the whole show was Cena and Rock at the end. Really felt both cut good promos. Man you can literally see how great Cena could be as a heel. He dropped a little heel personality just saying how in the end he always wins. And how it eats the people that hate him. Fucking WWE just uses him wrong. Hed be such a great heel.
They completely ruined Punk vs Jericho for me. I expect the match to be good but the buildup has completely fizzled for me. I love how people have buried The Rock yet 2 consecutive weeks before Mania the guy fighting for the WWE title doesnt show up on Raw and nobody makes a peep.

Im not completely burying Jericho because to be honest, I dont know why he wasnt there. And by there I meant live out in the ring. For all I know this could be some retarded scriptwriting move in order to keep the 2 seperated before Wrestlemania. Another move that they seem to be doing recently. Im thinking of all the big matches for Mania, they are hardly letting any of these guys get physical with each other! Taker / HHH, Cena / Rock, Jericho / Punk....they havent touched each other yet! It seems like someone got it into Vinc head that if you let these guys hit each other before the PPV, nobody will pay to see it. Stupid fucking mentality. They Have swung the pendulum too far in the "storytelling" direct. They kept them all separated for the sake of building drama. That would have been fine if it was only the case with HHH/Taker we've seen them beat each other to death countless times.
I hated the storyline turn of the Punk/Jericho match from the best in the world too the drunk druggy Brooks family. That match should have been about PURE heel/face wrestling.
They let Stephs team of soap opera writers get into thier heads too much

I have no problem with Jericho not being live on the show for the past few weeks because they've built up Punk's mindset that if he sees Jericho, he's going to kill them. Now that face to face has been saved for Wrestlemania.

Yeeeaaa um...I dont care how they bill it, the guy fighting for the WWE Heavyweight title at Wrestlemania should be live on the Raws leading up to it. Come on now.

I keep waiting for rock to say something like u couldn't leave cause the movies u did sucked and no one called for u to do non wwe movies whenever cena brings up that rock left
I agree...
However... HOWEVA (Stephan A Smith)
When Rock did his movies he was gone for months at a time.
Even when Cena did movies he was still at Raw almost every week.
Maybe Rocks movies were more actions and took more of his time, or remote locations..
I can't remember the movies rock did during that time.
That movie with stiffler was in Brazil but I do not know if that was before or after he left for acting full-time.

I remember something about Cena flying into whatever city RAW was in each week and then flying back the next day to continue shooting.

The name dolph ziggler, entrance song, and nick name "the show off" are the main reason i can't take this guy seriously.

They'll give him a final run like they did with hogan that last time
Not a long one mind u prob like a run up to winning title and then he'll vacate it to leave as a champ without losing

If he gets the belt I seriously doubt hed just leave without dropping it to someone. I dont where this refusal to job rep is coming from. Am I the only one that remembers him coming back, and trying to turn heel just to put Goldberg over?

Im pretty sure hes in with Cena. Hes probably got some life threatening disease. Hes the only person Ive seen wearing that gear either night, and last night Cena threw his shirt right to him.
