What's funny is TNA had their best PPV in near for fucking ever (Destination X) and here comes the old McMahon hammer to crush any and all hype that PPV garnered for them. Just shows when Vince isn't just going through the motions he still can pull off incredible and compelling shows.. MITB made Destination X look like a house show in comparison.

This couldn't be more off topic..

But why is R-Truth named R-Truth? He had two great names:
Ron Killings and "The Truth"

Why did they combine them to make something stupid? Is his name supposed to be "Ron Truth"? That doesn't even make sense.

He was Ron The Truth Killings in TNA. Vince doesnt usually like keeping names from other promotions, no matter how good. If Sting finally came to the WWE hed probably rename him Scorpion Man.

You'd think Del Rio would be more wary of the head kick.

According to WWE hes really dont on the 18th. They had to give a statement to GLAAD saying he has 2 weeks left on an already advertised PPV so but they arent re-signing him. Thats their way of cowtowing to the faggot equivalent of Al Sharpton.

I love that WWE is at best just paying lip service to GLAAD, and at worse actively fucking with them. Again (http://www.outsports.com/columns/20020913glaadwwe.htm).

From Cenas Twitter just now...

I have just been 'future endeavored'. Well..if that's how it is I would like to take a moment to publicly apologize to Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson. In an effort to make WM28 as big as possible I tried to expose rock for his flaws. Very childish and immature on my behalf. My comments about the rocks absence were both unprofessional and childish. I am sorry. Rock, I truly wish and still hope in my heart of Hearts that the crazy old man who is the boss reconsiders his totally rash decision. Because chicago was insane last night And it made me think.of what Miami could have been. I guess sometimes u do not know what u have until it is lost. And it made me think.of what Miami could have been. I guess sometimes u do not know what u have until it is lost. CeNation. I very rarely ask u for anything but I am down to my last chance. If u could tweet WWE to let them know not to fire me. I would be indebted to u all. Im not saying its gonna work but sometimes they can not ignore the universe

LOL It was going good until that last Tweet. WWE pandering to the social networks for publicity.

Im starting to think that my initial prediction of them having a deal with ROH may be true after all. I know they have been trying to start their own TV network for awhile now. And ROH was just bought by Sinclair Broadcasting, and Cornette just announced today that ROH TV debuts 9-24-11. By partnering up on the WWE with this, they get some much needed exposure to launch their tv show, and the WWE gets some new angles that have people talking. It also gets them on the good side of Sinclair Broadcasting while trying to build a TV Network. WWE just recently posted a job listing for a recruiter to help build the staff for the WWE cable network.

But who the hell knows.

Also, CM Punk said tonight he would be at the Phillies / Cubs game instead of Raw.

I'm not sure who it was...someone on an F4W show...they came up with a really good idea for Monday night: Cena comes out with the belt. Cuts a promo like he's reading off a script about how he won last night. The announcers comment about Cena's win like they're reading off a script. Everyone is begrudgingly kayfabing the fact that Punk won and left with the belt. We see security confiscating Punk signs out of the front row. EVERYONE knows the truth, but Mr McMahon has ordered a coverup. No one is happy, but they play along.

I don't know where the storyline goes from there, but it would be fun for a night to play WWE Twilight Zone.

Amazing Raw. An hour forty-five of wrestling, most of it good especially by today's WWE standards, a mercifully short Divas match, Vince of all people saying "WWF," a great promo from Cena, and a logical yet fantastic swerve.

styckx
07-18-2011, 07:33 PM
Cenas promo wasn't all that great.. In words yes... Out of his mouth no.. Cena is great on the mic when he's talking about the troops, Hustle and Loyalty and reminding everyone for the 100th time `he does what he does in this ring every night for each and every one of you". It should have been said by someone with passion, not just speaking with no inflection in their voice.

The swerve is a great one, although sorta makes the whole lead up to CM Punk and Cena fired thing sort of watered down.. There is now a 24 lane clear highway to bring Punk back with little to no storyline needed.

edit: Oh and the wrestling sucked tonight.. You could make 1/2 a new botchfest out of tonights matches alone.

There never was a barrier to Punk coming back. Tonight just gives them a reason not to "fire" Cena. It wasn't Vince who chased Punk away, he wanted to leave. Punk isn't a big fan of the "Doofus son-in-law" either.

The absolute worst was Zilgler landing on the ropes, goes to turn over, get up, or whatever, then notice Rey camping out (like he usually does) waiting to do the 619, then rolls back over with his back facing Rey to take the 619.

He also called a follower of his a "retard" in response to a remark that The Miz has a job. The former Heat Superstar then boasted that he's featured in WWE's upcoming video release, OMG! The Top 50 Incidents in WWE History, while The Miz isn't.

"Oh and dont 4get im on the top 50 omg moments in WWE!!! Haha jackasses! Dont c miz on there!!!!! You DMF's," he wrote. "My time is money.... You idiots arent worth either! Lol peace out to all my beloved fans!!!! Have a wonderful day."

I can't see Punk coming back just to lose, and to Cena of all people. And if Punk's not losing there's no reason for Rey to not hold onto the pretend belt till Summerslam.

Jesus Christ!

Cena's the ring general?

He's screaming directions for all to hear.

This main event lacks any physical impact whatsoever.

Great Raw, wouldve been better if the crowd wasnt such shit. Typical fucking hayseed crowd...WHAT? chants all night...big pops for Cena (actually saw a grown man doing the 3 fingers sign and holding out his shirt, GAY), no pop at all for Ryder. Where were they again? Virginia? Ugh, I hate when they do shows in the sticks. Its amazing the effect a great crowd can have on a show (Ex. Chicago)

Think about it like this though.. The crowd came through when it counted.

That was a total typical cena mark crowd. Saw tons of Cena gear all over the place.. Yet.. Punk still got a big pop when he emerged, and the kick in the balls was the cheers when he held up the belt after Cena held up his was 3x louder than Cena.. He's slowly turning the "WWE universe" against Cena.. It's a slow process. Austin wasn't getting mega pops everywhere right off the bat either, it was a slow turn.

I see where you're coming from, but the problem is the kids. Unless they just pull the trigger and turn Cena heel, you're not going to get the kids off his side. Both Punk and Rock have destroyed him on the mic this year and they're as firmly behind him as ever.

The difference now is that the rest of the crowd isn't just against Cena, they're for Punk. For years its been "I'll even take another HHH/Edge/Orton/Etc reign over Cena" but now people have someone they can actually get behind. It's been said a lot lately but this really does have the potential to be another Austin 3:16.

Potential? Yes.

But they will fuck it up.

They already brought CM Punk back too quickly. And from the ENTRANCE RAMP!! He isn't employed, yet they play his choice of music, don't cut cameras, and let him in the ring at the end of their show?!

THEY COULDN'T EVEN MENTION HIM BY NAME DURING THE ENTIRE SHOW FOR BABY JESUS'S BRITCHES!!!

There is NO continuity whatsoever.

The writers aren't doing Punk any favors.

It's ham-fisted and amateurish garbage.

He will truly have to get HIMSELF over.

This is true. Tonight on Jimmy Kimmel he had Punk show up at his nephews house, whos a big Cena fan. Now, when I was a kid, I was a Roddy Piper fan, but you couldve had fucking Barry Horowitz show up to my house and I wouldve lost my shit. This kid wanted nothing to do with him.

My friends son is the same way. At Wrestlemania it was me and my friend, 2 grown men in our 30s, teasing his 4 year old son because he was getting pissed off about The Rock beating up Cena. LOL

Oh also, at one point this week The Rock said something about showing up at Survivor Series this year. And about coming at Cena there.

I also wouldve liked to see them hold him out longer as well. I like these impromptu public appearances he does with the belt. They shouldve milked that longer. If they had to have a confrontation they shouldve had him come down to ringside through the fans, and hold the belt up. They couldve played the music and just said next week he had paid off a stagehand to play it at the end of the show or something.

Time will tell if they brought him back to soon or not. But now youve got 2 guys fighting for the belt again. Miz tweeted something tonight thats probably part of the work but still rings very true... "ooooo Punk and Cena....Triple H's new WWE seems a helluva lot like the old one. Yea I got 2 words for ya..."

The show was weak. Punk was brought back WAY too soon. I feel like it's falling flat on it's face this angle.

Meanwhile lets not overlook champ for one hour buried Mysterio. Jesus jumping Jack flash christ, why waste time with a match? HHH should have just got the new shiny belt and handed to Cena like Bischoff did for him back when.

Zack Ryder, a man who gets himself over, gets a three second joke match with Cole which was a blatant FU too people saying he should be on RAW.

And finally, can we stop with commentator angles? I just want them to get along and be somewhat entertaining.

It's coming. There was subtle hints at it last night just by Cena taking a match against a guy (who was face and the kids love) who already wrestled a match that night and then holding up the paper championship belt in front of the real champion. Yep.. Plus. As extreme as a push as CM Punk is getting right now, and how quickly he's really changing the demographic he's not Austin or The Rock yet.. He's a mega star in the making but a baby still.

Austin, The Rock could take 3 months off, come back and the fans would react the same as the day they left. CM Punk is still under construction and can't afford to take off a month or two. His momentum would have died.. WWE did the right thing, and the music change was the key. They brought him back and 95% of the people had NO IDEA who it was.. He was given a future Hall Of Famer rock star style return all while WWE's `golden boy" stood in the ring looking defeated and like a guy who's time has passed. It was almost a mini torch pass and the fans put the stamp of approval on it.

-- John Cena has now held the WWE Championship a record nine times following his title victory last night on Raw . The previous record holder was Triple H, who held the WWE Championship on eight occasions.

If Cena holds the belt through Thursday, he will move past Pedro Morales into fourth place as most combined days as WWE Champion at 1028.

StanUpshaw

The "bought a ticket" thing would make no sense, since Punk is the one who wanted to leave, and WWE was begging for him to stay.

Coming back now makes no sense because yeah, he didn't like dealing with Vince, but he also shit all over HHH, so how could he convince him?

I think the only thing that would have made sense is for HHH to come out and tell Cena and Mysterio "sorry for getting your hopes up, but your match tonight is for the #1 contendership. We have ONE heavyweight title, and the only way for one of you to get it is to beat CM Punk. I'm going to do everything in my power to bring him back where he belongs, but until then, you're fighting for second place."

You keep Punk on TV with video segments of negotiations, segments showing how happy Punk is on the outside, then finally, the Monday before the PPV (Summer Slam is too soon), something triggers his comeback. Maybe Cena goes on a huge streak and people start making a case that Cena's the "best in the world" and Punk just got lucky...something that finally convinces him to come back and defend the belt.

Having him come back immediately just drains any anticipation, and crowning a second champion makes the belt completely meaningless.

Cena Vs Punk at Summerslam.. WWE need to do the right thing and let Punk win clean once again to solidify his The Best In The World thing. He can drop it to ADR after that since for some reason which I can not comprehend ADR is 100% promised a title run. I think he sucks, his mic work sucks, he doesn't have any above average personality, or in ring persona to carry that belt properly. We get it, you're the 5,253 wrestler in history to use the `I drive to the ring in a fancy car' gimmick. If he didn't have this big push he'd seriously be headlining WCW Thunder and squashing Barry Darsow.

They never should have taken him off Smackdown. Despite what happened at MitB I don't think they're gonna give Christian a real chance and ADR/Orton could be a great feud.

Speaking of Smackdown, after the feud with Punk is over that's where Cena should be, especially if they won't turn him heel. Raw's ratings will be fine without him, particularly if Punk continues to explode, and SD could use the help.

Because hes Mexican. Thats their only fucking reason and it sucks. Just read the original plan for Summerslam was to have Cena vs Del Rio and Del Rio beat him for it. They scratched that plan hours before Raw and switched it up because they felt if Punk was the main event for the PPV, his heat would be extinguished. How fucking dumb is that? He was off TV for one week and has had more heat then ever because of it.

Did Jimmy Kimmel, was shown during the MLB Cubs / Phillies game, was at Comic Con, just did an interview with Bill Simmons, etc. All in one week....where he WASNT on Raw.

But they plan on giving Del Rio a title run in the Fall because WWE has a tour in Mexico come October. Im guessing he loses it back to Cena at Survivor Series, with The Rock in attendance. Just seems so fucking silly. Like Mexican WWE fans arent going to go to the shows if he doesnt have a Mexican champ? Fucking ridiculous.

WWE has incentive to pretend like the competition doesn't exist. There is a MINUTE possibility that if a WWE fan finds out about TNA, WWE might end up losing some money.

There is no incentive for TNA to pretend that WWE doesn't exist. They need to pounce on any scraps they can.

No, 52 year old Sting ripping off a movie character is the champion.

I cannot understand how people can look at TNA and think that it is at all entertaining when all they try to do is copy things that other people have already done better than they ever could. I'm sure in another few months they'll have someone coming out saying that they're leaving the company with the title because they were never treated well.

OK, I was listening to an old Ron & Fez show, so I watched the clip on mute. I see a silly elbow drop, but nothing to really write home about.

Then I re-watch it with the sound because I figure there's got to be more to it. WOW, was that cringe-worthy. I get uncomfortable when John Sterling uses the "A-Bomb from A-Rod" line. If you're a wrestling announcer, though, I would think you have to be up on popular culture enough to know that if you're stealing a line from a baseball play-by-play guy, don't steal the one that even the fans of the team he calls for can't stand. Just awful.

I wish WWE would stop pulling WCW tricks with crowd noise.

Cena got massively boo'ed twice tonight, "meh" reception when his named dropped other times. Ok reception when his music hit. Then somehow, at the end while his music is playing the entire arena magically can pop so loud it drowns out his theme song?

You can hear the cuts in the audio during their promos.. Volume drastically turned up or down with the mics in the crowd.

The 3 main issues I see with Punk is.

1: He is trying too hard to garner support with the fans. W
hat made him popular to this point and what aslo made Stone Cold popular is that they did not show that they gave a shit about popularity. They just did their own shit. Punk is explaining too much. Its like a bad writer. Which the WWE is full of.

2 I think Punk is not a great actor and just seems like he is reading off a SNL teleprompter. It just does not look and sound natural.

3 I just not like the music he chose. It just once again seems like he is trying too hard to tell you what he is. And its just not a good fit.

I think his old song was much better. From start to finish.

I hope it gets better because its a great angle but its just off.

Shoot promo, and contract negotiations Punk was a natural. You could tell he wasn't reciting a script word for word and just speaking naturally.

Last night he was reciting lines and it was very evident. Same goes for HHH and Cena. There was zero chemistry between any of them.

The writers really screwed the pooch last night on the story making sense though. Punk worked like 3 different roles last night.. Heel/Tweener/Face.. Cena taking some of Punks "anti establishment" gimmick is fucking retarded coming from a guy who is the WWE golden boy and givin everything. Johnny Ace was the only one in the ring making any sense. John Cena SHOULD be stripped of the title. He didn't even compete in the torny for the belt.

If they relieved Vince of his duties for questionable decisions then HHH might be next. CM Punk didn't even use that to his advantage on the promo instead all we got was cheap shots at HHH's family life.

Ive always said I think Cena is a class act, and interested in doing the right thing. I also think hes a legit main eventer. I just dont like his gimmick. He even said it last night, hes Hogan but without cupping the ear. Personally I always like Piper and Randy Savage more.

And I get why McMahon keeps that gimmick because little kids love it, and it gives his company a wholesome image again which helps if your wife is running for public office. But I mean its just so weird having him come out with his "never give up" slogan and cowtowing to the crowd, just to hear him get booed out of half the arenas.

Its kind of a shame because for a guy like him the old time territories wouldve been perfect. He couldve went down and played the hero for all the hayseeds then come back up north and become the heel he was really good at. The best part is that video of The Rock making fun of his jean shorts came out last month, and last week he was on Twitter asking fans to come up with ideas for new ring attire because he was looking to change things up.

I gotta listen to it when I get home. But Im glad. I think thats all the people that pined for the Attitude Era wanted. We didnt want the WWE to just ignore kids, but dont forget about the adults that helped turn you in a mega millionaire, when you were on the verge of going out of business either.

Old style Raw catered to everyone. It didnt just leave out the kids while the Attitude Era was going on. Ever since the PG Era came about, it seemed like the WWE only worried about kids and their parents, and basically forgot about the men that enjoyed wrestling and helped make them as big as they were. They didnt leave anything for us to enjoy on the show. Im glad they are trying to bring back something for the guys to enjoy.

Rumors are Punk vs Austin at Mania. They had a fun little back ands forth on Twitter awhile back. Plus Punk kind takes small jabs at the Attitude Era and The Rock as being outdated. Austin has said hed consider it. It would be a pretty cool Mania if they pitted Attitude Era stars against the stars of today.

You could have guys like Rock, Austin, HHH, Taker, Foley, Big Show, Kane, and Christian pitted against guys like Cena, Punk, Orton, Miz, Morrison, Kingston, Del Rio and R Truth. Not sure how I would form the leadup but it could be really interesting if they went in that kind of direction.

Hopefully this stops the insanity of giving Deljobber the belt.

He is the face.

With adults, yes.
With kids, no.

Its really interesting to see the WWE figure this out about their audience. I'll be intrigued to see how they play this dynamic.

He is the face.

Yet he hasnt changed one thing about his character from when he was a heel. Hes feuding with whats supposed to be the biggest face in the world right now. His character throws their stupid "only good guys sell merch" belief right out the window.

No one ever says "only good guys sell merch." They say "heels don't sell merch."

The exceptions to that rule are huge exceptions (nWo, Austin, Rock, DX), but for the most part its fairly accurate.

Not really. You mentioned main eventers. Taker when he was a heel. HBK as a heel. HHH as a heel. Roddy Piper. Randy Savage.

The heels that dont move merch are just like the faces that dont. Mid-carders that just dont have what it takes to be big time. Sometimes you see exceptions (The Hardys) but usually unless its something really cool and unique to the wrestler like Mysterios mask, most people just spend on the main eventers. It doesnt help that its like $30 a shirt either. For that price, most people are just gonna buy one, and no matter how much your kid might like John Morrison, if he can only get one, hes going for the main eventer.

Looking back it amazes me how much money the NWA left on the table by not putting out some quality merchandise during the 80s. The WWF was printing money with Hulkamania and Hot Rod shirts, and Randy Savage foam fingers, while NWA did pretty much nothing with guys like Sting, Flair, Dusty, Magnum TA, The Road Warriors, The Koloffs, etc.

I still stand by my opinion. I guess they dont count all that Austin merch because when he was a heel so many people bought his shit and cheered him on they made him a face...so that dont count. Same with The Rock. Same with DX. nWo never turned face and still outsold the rest of the WCW merch combined.

But hey look at how much Kofi Kingston and John Morrison merch that sells. I Evan Borunes stuff cant stop flying off the shelves.

Also, people forget, John Cena got over as a heel. Thats when people started buying his shit, not when he became a good guy.

So I just watched that last hour of Raw on Universal.

Fantastic. Punk was great. The use of the Rock's vid was great, and yes, Cena did the exact right thing by not calling out that it was a month old. Cena was actually perfect. As much as he drives us nuts, it's only fair to give him credit when it's due. I gave up on WWE almost 2 years ago, and they have me seriously considering buying this PPV. (Not to mention Punk's T-shirt... the last one of those I bought was the EC F'n W shirt...)

I don't know the upcoming schedule, but they need to get Punk over in the Garden ASAP. With what he's doing now, they could make 20,000 sound just like the Hammerstein.. It'd be amazing.

Im just worried that this is all short lived with that dumb bitch running for senate again.

Hopefully that is why Vince went off cam and HHH took over.

Maybe Vince not being "The Boss" Will seperate the WWE from her and her awful non winning campaigne.

That segment showed that when Cena doesn't come out to be goofy and entertain children, he can be quite effective on the mic, especially when paired with someone as great as Punk.

Well that ending is exactly what everyone expected to happen. Nash appearing was the worst surprise appearance ever. Distraction at most to take away from a otherwise predictable as shit ending. Way to not surprise anyone.

Im not sure how I feel about that main event. It was definitely entertaining and unexpected, so that was good. But Kevin Nash? Punk is the hottest thing in wrestling and youre going to drop him into a feud with a has been?

And Del Rio as champ to go feud with Cena? Ugh. I see them ruining everything good that theyve built. Maybe Im just being pessimistic but Its because more often then not they take good angles in the WWE and fuck them up somehow...and it looks like it may continue.

What sucks was the match had the crowd on the edge of their seat.. They were there with every move. When it ended, the crowd knew and we knew it wasn't a natural ending and only finished to setup the swerve/surprise. They were working up another 5* match but that knee jerk un-natural ending killed it.
