So any of you guys out there got the Xbox 360 yet? I'm curious to hear a personal, non-magazine review
of the system and its hits and misses. From the sound of it there were several shortages in my area
thanks to massive intial shipment defects. You think a company as big as Microsoft would quality-control
their shit a little more, with so much riding on these next-gen systems. I suppose their overall strategy
was to beat Sony to the punch, as stupid as it may be in the long run, but they've done it. I'll wait longer
for my PS3.

I've done quite a bit of video editing for Xbox Unleashed (the 360 awareness program) here in Toronto and was around these things for the last 4 months.

The demo unit that the teams were using all summer had one or two problems. The main one being that it would overheat when it was mounted in a component rack. Sure...it wasn't properly ventilated but, the dvd players above and below it on the same rack had no problems.

I don't actually PLAY any videogames but, from what I hear...the controllers are "weird". Whatever the hell THAT means. Needless to say, those kinds of comments did not make it into the corporate video.

As for the problems with the supply meeting the demand. All the Canadian vendors were short-shipped on purpose. Microsoft obviously (and openly) wanted people to be turned away empty handed. This was to create a buzz or craze or whatever the hell you wanna call it. It also was designed to enable another big launch when the next shipment arrives. This would give way for more media impressions and ultimately...more advertising and certainly more word-of-mouth. That's just marketing 101... and I'm sure you guys in the US are experiencing the same thing.

Crap like an intentional shortage, rushing an incomplete product out to the public and the fucking insane prices make me SO happy I'm not still in that stage of my life where I need the latest, greatest videogame system.

I just bought Metroid for my GBA this week. What a great game! Superior graphics!

I'm getting ready to turn 33 and think I'm finally at the age where I
don't need a gaming system. I'll just stick with my PC and
whatever I can download.
I don't even play games on my comp. I don't have anything against video games but I just don't find myself wanting to play them anymore.

I got a used PS2 and a Gamecube. I haven't used the PS2 even as a DVD player in months, and if it wasn't for a copy of Resident Evil 4 I was given, I wouldn't have played the Gambecube in the same time. I can't even get into RE4, and it's GORY AS HELL!! Fucking cool looking, but I can't do it anymore.

Good point, it's the fact that police had to be called out to the Best Buy next door to my own workplace, and I heard about other sites, to deal with angry customers. This is just unncessary, and easily preventable. Nonetheless, you're still right in that it is good marketing to create buzz. Here we are talking about it now. The American consumer is a funny creature...
I read a reoprt in USA Today that said there were some problems with the new units and they listed a trouble shooting hotline. I think I am done with the consoles too.

I'm going to wait until the PS3 arrives. No sense in buying a new system now, I recently bought NHK 2K6 and SD!vsRAW 2006. Those plus Madden will last me through the summer.

Now videos gaming is not really my thing but I do pay a little
attention to the news and what is going on. My biggest question would
have to be is, how is the gameplay on these new systems? Sure the
graphics look phenominal and life like and out of this world but how is
the actual gameplay.

Call me old but I think of video games as
something not life like, not "controlling my own movie or sporting
event" so to speak and looking a bit blocky and pixelated. Maybe it was
because i grew up on Atari and Nintendo. Who knows?

The gameplay is teh same as the old. I think of the launch titles
14 are sequels, 11 of those are sports titles, and I forget how many
are posts, but I beleive it's all the sports titles, Call of Duty,
maybe a couple others.
I got the 360 last week. I play Halo 2 on it (never had a XBox, so I wanted the game). I've playe da couple 360 games on it and the graphics are improved, but their are no games out there that I want right now. Most of the games I enjoy come out in that fall (NHL, Madden, WWE).
Xbox 360 HDD issue with Major League Baseball 2K6
2K Sports has finalized a solution that solves the issue found with Xbox 360 HDD systems when playing Major League Baseball 2K6. The 2K Sports QA team pinpointed and confirmed with Microsoft a cache issue with replays that users with the HDD systems may encounter. The cache issue has been limited to less than 10% of the Major League Baseball 2K6 Xbox 360 users. When these machines are powered down during gameplay, the cache on the HDD may become corrupted and may result in the system "freeze" issue. 2K Sports has isolated the cause and has created a Title Update to correct this issue that is now available.
How do I access the Title Update?
A Title Update is available on Xbox Live free via the Xbox 360 Live Silver service that comes with every Xbox 360. NOTE - You are not required to have an Xbox Live Gold account to download this Title Update. Once you are connected to Xbox Live, you will just need to insert your Major League Baseball 2K6 game into your Xbox 360 console and a prompt will come up regarding an update available for this game. You can then select "Yes, update now" and the Title Update will be applied to your console. As precaution, we recommend that all users who use an HDD download this Title Update.
* If you've received an error while downloading the update, please try rebooting and downloading again.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience to your playing experience and we appreciate your understanding and support. Please stay tuned for further updates.
