About a year ago I thought that Michael Kay was the biggest homer/worst radio guy ever but not only has he seemed to have turned a corner but he has been replaced, 10 fold, by Max Kellerman.

This guy may know something about boxing, I persoanlly dont follow it, but in my opinion he knopws nothing nor has ever validated any of his ridiculous points.

He was saying the other day that Peyton Manning was over-rated.

Now while Manning has clearly not won the big game, saying that he's over-rated is complete horsesh*t.

To use his logic A Rod would also be over-rated no ?

Big numbers but not championships behind it right ?

But no he goes on and finds ways to shield A Rod from that kinda argument.

I now hate him more than any person in any aspect of sports/entertainment.

He's the worst !!

I dont know if Kay changed his tune once ESPN gave him more of a drive-time slot but thats when I noticed him as being not so " all Yankees ".

I've even heard him make some anti-Yankee comments.

I totally agree with you, Kellerman is a douche. But Manning is also over-rated. I'm not gonna sit here and say he isn't talented cause the man clearly is, but having talent and being over-rated are two totally different things. Every year, according to sports casters, it's "the Colts year" and not once has it been. Until Manning wins the big game he'll always be over-rated in my eyes.

winning the big game is over rated. Unless its wreslting, tennis or golf (or any other individual sport), you need to have every other guy doing well to win it all.

I think winning it all over rates players. a lot of people get over rated because they happened to be on a team that won it all.

Bill Simmons has it right about Manning...he took a huge pay raise that sabotaged his team, and put up huge numbers when they relaxed the rules on covering recievers...I think Manning is a great player, but my ultimate test for how good a sports figure is to ask myself if i would rely on them in a big game my team absolutely had to win....

And Manning fails that test....Give me Tom Brady any day....

*shrugs* some guys just aren't winners...(see Marino, Dan)

It don't make you a bad person

Winning the big game is somewhat over-rated.

Somebody made a point, not sure who it was, that Trent Dilfer won the big game but he's surely not great.

How great does winning that game make you ?

Guess we should throw
Ted Williams in the overrated pile too. No championships, .256 post
season batting average. Would walk when the team needed him to drive in
runs. Fuckin selfish choker. Right?

Dont you people know a when moron trying to say
ridiculous things just to generate phone calls from people that are
even dumber than he is? Look at his ratings. Nobody's listening.

JimBeam, I never said Dilfer was great nor did I say that winning the big game makes you great. I said Manning is talented, there's no denying it. However, this man can do whatever he wants against a soft schedule in the regular season, including setting the regular season record for TD passes, but he can NOT win when it matters. That's what makes you exceptionable, winning when it matters, not winning the big game.

Marino is another prime example, absoltuely phenominal QB, but never won when it truely mattered.

The quarterback position is the most special position in sports. And with that comes special terms and things that come along with it. to be the BEST qb you have to have a ring why? because i have seen great quarterbacks pick up entire teams on his back and win games. manning isnt overrated because no one has ever called him the greatest QB ever. marino is overrated because he has been called the greatest ever. marino would trade every stat and record he broke for Dilfers ring.

and not to get off topic but the last time i heard max kellermans name was on around the horn and he wasnt too bad on that. (sorry except for jet and knick games u couldnt pay me to listen to espn.)

I know I should stop listening to him, especiually when he has me yelling at my radio like a lunatic, but last nights gem was that of the 3 NL MVP candidtaes Derek Lee gets the edge because he's the best defensivley of the bunch.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm I'v heard Andruw Jones being compared to the best defensive CF of all time but I cant quite recall hearing the same about Lee.

I dont know that these guiys would " trade their stats for rings " as people say.

Who the hell remembers Doug Williams ?

He won a Super Bowl but big deal.

When you're a Hall Of Famer. and have the stats to prove it, people will talk about you forever.

What about Mark Rypien ( spelling ?? ) ?

Me mentioning him may be the first time he's been mentioned on the internet in 10 years.

A QB doesnt play both sides of the ball so they can lose the " big game " a lot if the defense is poorous. They can also lose it by throwing 5 picks.

On a side note I dont think most of ESPN Radio is too bad.

Outside of Kellerman its OK.

I do like the Gamenight group on Sirius.

What about Mark Rypien ( spelling ?? ) ? -- His youngest son got really sick with bone cancer or something and he stopped playing to take care of his son.

Also - Timmy Smith the one game wonder got caught trying to sell coke with his brother to an under cover agent

And Tony Reali much better then kellerman
