Word around the internet is that Chris Benoit's contract is gonna expire soon.If Benoit is smart he would leave WWE and go to TNA.

Why would that make him smart? Leaving a company that can pay him more and give him better exposure yeah thats a smart carrer move

now Benoit is not getting that exposure, I think partly because he
sucks on the mic, and they tried the mr no personality angle allready.

I think a few months of work down with TNA will eventually help, more than hurt.

and noone really 'quits' the wwe, unless you're tied to a harness that snaps.

to add, the contract that might be coming Benoit's way for WWE is complete crap...pretty much similar to what Christians offer was

without the use of that one simple word...

Most likely McMahon is going to pair him in a tag team with Kevin Sullivan for sheer shock value.

Why would that make him smart? Leaving a company that can pay him more and give him better exposure yeah thats a smart carrer move

The belief that a wrestler can't get paid well or have good exposure anywhere but the WWE is a myth which is rapidly dying out. Christian is a good example of this. So is Brock Lesnar, who I'm sure stands to make ungodly amounts of money working in Japan. Hell, ex-WWE midcarders like Bull Buchanan and Johnny Stamboli are making big bucks working for All Japan in Japan and doing tours in countries where wrestling is still hot, like Italy. Raven, who was never more than a midcarder in the WWE, has gone on record a few times stating that he makes more working the indies than he ever made with his WWE contract, and he was around in the WWE when wrestling was still hot and guys were making out like bandits.

The WWE lowballed Christian on his contract and he told them to take the job and shove it. With TNA emerging, there are alternatives for guys to work.

Benoit is a former World champion and was well known in the wrestling world before he went to the Fed. Look at things this way.

Benoit could be better off in the long term going with TNA. If six months from now TNA is doing one (two hour) tv taping and one house show a week, in one PPV a month, that's an upper limit of 116 dates a year he could work for them. Benoit is in the range where he would be commanding at least $4000 a match from TNA, but lets say he only gets $2000 per match for house shows. That's still $6000 a week plus PPV payoffs. That's an upper limit of $360,000 a year for just two days a week on most weeks. Let's say he doesn't work absolutely every show, or perhaps TNA doesn't run as many (if any) house shows, and gets a little less, like say $300,000 a year. Let's say he doesn't even do international tours, aside from the occasional jaunt to Puerto Rico and the occasional big New Japan show, because of regular TNA commitments.

Let's say he does one additional U.S. indy date, 40 weeks out of the year. Let's say he only charges $2500 a match plus airfare for indy dates (because honestly I don't think many U.S. indies could afford more than that). That's an additional $100,000 a year.

I'm not sure what New Japan would be paying Benoit, but let's say with their new cooperation with TNA they bring him in for just half a dozen huge shows a year, at about $7500 per match. He could possibly ask for more (Benoit vs. Brock for the IWGP strap would probably legitimately draw good money), but let's go with what we have for now. That's another $45,000 a year. We're up to $445,000 a year before merchandising payoffs and title bonuses. Averaging barely three matches a week, he could conceivably make $550,000 a year or more outside of the WWE.

Let's say TNA is keeping their same taping schedule though, and only doing one tv taping every other week and not doing house shows.

Benoit would now have more time to do things like international tours, and so he could conceivably make up most of the difference working for places like New Wrestling Evolution (the Italian fed where ex-WCW / WWE guys like Rikishi and Vampiro are making big money), Japan, and NWA international tours, and he still could be pulling down around half-a-million dollars annually or more.

It's not as if the WWE is THE best option out there for him, especially given that the current rumor is the new contract offered to him is half of what his current salary is.

I subscribe to Dave Scherer's website and he thinks that the WWE will up their offer to Benoit because, with Guerrero's death and Batista's injury, he's the top face there. We'll see what happens, but that makes sense to me.

i was gonna ask if the wwe would offer more money since eddie passed away but it seems to have already been answered.

with eddie's untimely death that leaves only benoit and an injured batista as major championship faces and Orton and JBL as major heels, do you think that had Christian re-signed with the wwe that he might have gotten a chance at the strap???

The travel could factor into Benoit's decision. Christian lives in the Tampa area, so it's only a short drive to Orlando to do TV and PPV shows.
Benoit lives in Atlanta, so that's not much of a drive and he could spend more time at home with his family.
