The school's principal said yesterday he acceded to the complaints of a handful of parents who said that because the school's traditional Halloween celebrations offended their religious beliefs, they would not send their children to school if the revelry continued this year.
 
Of nearly a dozen parents interviewed outside the school yesterday, none supported the decision to cancel the celebration. Several parents said they are considering staging a protest by donning costumes on Monday and standing in front of the school.

''If they can cancel Halloween, what about Columbus Day and
Valentines Day? We get Jewish holidays and Christmas off, so what's
next?" asked Andrea Newman, whose two sons attend the school. ''All it
takes is one person to be offended, and our school will ban it."

Columbus Day should be next. Columbus brought Halloween and other diseases to the American population.And fuck Valentines Day. We have "Sweetest Day" to celebrate now. VD was SOOO 5 minutes ago...

My son's in first grade and his school sent home a similar notice this year.  No costumes etc.  Any individual classroom parties will be referred to as "Fall Celebrations".  WTF

That's something as bad as what they do here in PA. they have separate trick-or-treating days for each neighborhood. So you have to get lucky for your town's day to actually lands on Halloween.

Just wait till Christmas time comes, There will be stories like whats happening all over the countryas a jewish person, it was really uncomfortable to be forced to be involved in christmas stuff as a child.  if you send your children to a public, secular school, there's really no excuse for bringing religion into it.  although i personally enjoy halloween and never thought of it as being religious, if it offends enough people's religions, it's probably not such a terrible idea that the school isn't celebrating it.  everyone's free to celebrate whatever they like once they go home.

Christians should be less concerned with whether or not their children are dressing up as witches or devils and getting candy for doing so, and more focused on, say, Moslems.  Because they're getting away with all KINDS of shit that should rightfully make the Christians pretty fucking pissed off.

Halloween is also called Pooky Night in some parts of Ireland, presumably named after the <a title="P£ca" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/PA§ca">p£ca</a>, a mischievous spirit.i guess over time mindsets change. it will bother some people now and they'll stop celebrating it and then a few hundred years will go by and people will have so many other problems they won't care if it's celebrated again....  you know, that same o'l jazz

This crap has been going on for as long as I can remember (over 30 years). There will always be conservative Christians bitching about it, and there will always be a few cancelled Halloween events every year. It's a stupid pain in the ass, but it really doesn't amount to much of anything, unless you're one of the few unlucky kids who are directly affected.
