Ha Ha! Gotcha you sickos!

I am talking about maintaining the temperature and humidity in your Humidor.

Back in the day, I was way into smoking a GOOD cigar. But as fate would have it, taking care of the Boys, the woman working nights, cigars fell by the wayside. A quality smoke takes about 1/2 an hour. But I always checked the condition of my smokes, and make sure they are warm and comfy!

I've got at least a Grand worth of tobacco in two separate humidors. Including Cuban Cohibas and Partegas. Plus a cache of Dominican La Glorias!

Well to shorten the story, I pulled out an 8 year old Cohiba, gently cut the tip. Fired the Bitch up...

And that smoke was even smoother and tastier then when I obtained it!!!

Thoughts?

Hottub, how big is your box? Or is it "boxen"?

The reason I ask is that my Dad's humidor is small and doesn't seem to do a very good job. Does size matter here?

When I got more into smoking cigars I bought the cheapest, smallest humidor I could find and I still own it. It's fake cherry wood with the special wood on the inside that retains moisture. Every few weeks I check the mositure meter and resoak these little discs that slowly release moisture to keep the few cigars I have in there in prime condition.

If I was much more serious or had a collection like it sounds Hottub has, I'd look into getting one of the plug in jobs that probably regulate both moisture and temperature. And of course, increase the space.

I like to use 2 smaller boxes, because it is easier for the conditioning element to work in a smaller area. The boxes themselves are nothing really special. (cedar lined cherry veneer) I paid a bit more for quality conditioning elements. That is the key.

About once a year I go to CVS to buy a bottle of distilled water (NEVER use tap) Check the condition every 2 weeks. Keep it at about 70/70 and you are fine.

I have a cherry wood looking small humidor too. Got it for like 20 bucks. I don't have a thermometer in there but I try to keep the humidity above like 60 or 70 at all times. I hardly open the thing so I don't lose moisture that much. Plus I only have a few cigars that I hold on to. They're nothing special but I got them in there. Well I mean they're good, but not Cuban good or anything.
