Hey, for those of you that are into horror movies ( Me personally I'm a fan of the ones that were big when I was growing up. The era from the late 70's to the early 80's. I can remember as a kid being excited to look at the paper on Friday and see at least one new horror movie a week. They were what we would consider " low bidget " today, but they were awesome. )
Well I was just messing around on the net and found a few really cool sites so I thought I'd share them.
Hope you find them interesting :
Friday The 13th Page ( this has a cool section that lists flubs in each of the films ) :
http://www.geocities.com/cyber_jason2001/friday.html
Horror On TV Page( This is a really cool site that tells you what horror movies are on regular television, basic, premium and Pay-Per-View cable. It goes by month. Really helpful if you like this sort of thing ) :
http://www.tv-now.com/stars/horror.htm
CreepyClips Site ( This site has pics and vids of a bunch of horror movies. Worth checking out. )
http://www.creepyclips.com/
The thing that is cool about these sites is that when you go to them they direct you to other sites that are more specific about certain genres or movies.

I'm pretty big into horror (Jim, I'm more or less from the same era you described). Those were the days...
Here are a few of the places I check out now and then for horror news and info:
<a href="http://www.esplatter.com">eSplatter</a>
<a href="http://www.diabolical-dominion.com">The Diabolical Dominion</a> (Great site, but I just tried the link and they appear to have a server problem at the moment)
<a href="http://www.upcominghorrormovies.com">Upcoming Horror Movies</a>
<a href="http://www.darkhorizons.com">Dark Horizons</a> (This one's more broad: Sci-Fi, Horror, Fantasy, etc., but they get a lot of good info)
<a href="http://www.halloweenmovies.com">HalloweenMovies.com</a> (This one is obviously only about the Halloween series)
<a href="http://www.cenobite.com">Hellraiser: The Hellbound Web</a> (Hellraiser stuff)
(NOTE: I'm not afflilated in any way with any of these sites.)

For the longest time, Lovecraft was someone I knew I should be into, but, embarassingly, never got around to. Any recommendations?

Yeah he's got a bunch of good ones.
Most of them are short stories so they dont darg on that long.
I'm sure you're aware that a lot of movies where based on his works. The obvious was " The Re-Animator " which is from his story " Herbert West : Re-Animator ".
Others where " From Beyond ", " Dunwich Horror " ( old 70's film ), " The Un-Namable ", etc..
So many stories where based somewhat on his stories.
The whole idea of the Necronomican from the Evil Dead flicks is based on a person who Lovecraft says is historicallly correct, but who most know that he created.
The book itself was an idea of Lovecrafts although her makes it seem, as have other authors since, that its a real book.
Read his stuff. You can get some of his anthologies in paperback. Really cool.
His most famous story is probably " The Call Of Cthulhu ", it was the background for most of his more liked stories.
He even spawned the ideas that other authors took on in some of their books.
Brian Lumley wirtes storied based on whats called " The Cthulhu Mythos ". Salem's Lot was supposedly inspired by Lovecraft ideas. I highly recommend it. Check them out.

Lovecraft was fantastic. I know Poe was a brilliant writer, but IMO, Lovecraft should get as much respect as Poe does. Lovecraft has given us some of the best horror ever written.
Sheeplover, no one knows when Zombie's flick is going to come out. Universal dumped him once the movie was rated NC-17, and he refused to edit it down to an R. Which sucks. In the era of shitty Scream-esque "horror" films starring every Dawson's Creek reject in Hollywood, we need a good new horror film.
If you love all of the cheesy old B-Movies, check out http://www.witchinghourvideo.com

Poe is one of favorite authors and they have a yearly event that Ive been to up in Baltimore on his birthday.
Also I made a Cathuluish logo for an open source project I am involved with.
PS anyone have a copy of the Nature Boy bit right before Superbowl ... I would love a copy of that to send to a R&F fan of mine that grew up in Baltimore and moved to Seattle where Baby Sarah is now. R&F are on now out there ... woohoo

Last I heard about Rob Zombie's flick was that they were looking to ditribute it direct to video. That a huge financial loss for the original production, but at least they'll get the movie out.
I also read that a director wants to remake " Dawn Of The Dead ". I have mixed feelings about it. Firstly I love the whole " living dead " idea. I think it presents such a bleak outlook that its psychologically " scarrier " than most other horror. But on the other hand it is a classic and really shouldnt be tinkered with, especially in an era where there is no way you could pull off an ounce of the carnage that was in the original and try and make money. Even its cult status couldnt draw people to it because it would have a major studio backing it.
George A Romero has done the best/most with the zombi idea and he should be the one to continue it, but he has no plans as of now. There was a 4th script in his original plans but he's hesitant about making it.
On a side note he did do some commercials that where " Dawn " and " Day Of The Dead " style for the Japanese release of Resident Evil the game. They consulted with him for the movie that would be made in the states based on that game, but they couldnt agree.
