At what age did you leave home [Archive]

I am twenty-two, still in school, and still at home.I'll probably leave in the next year or two, after i get my degree...but is 22 too old to still be at home...<img src="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/down.gif" border="0" />i know people who left in their teens...and others who are in their thirties and are still at home...when did you leave?

I left home to live with my roommate Jen at the time.  I was
25.  I moved back home after 6 months or so.  Then I moved
out again at 27 and my fiance and I bought our own place. Now I'm
almost 30.....ugh.

I left at 18 and never looked back. Never wanted to move back home no matter what dire straits I was in. Not that it was bad, I just didn't want to be in a dependent situation again.

I moved out aged 16. I still live near them so I see them often. I met a girl at age 15, lived with her since I was 16 (she was 17) and I married her at the age of 20. I have got a 2 year old son by now.

I will live forever or die trying!!

I moved out when I was 26 (westchester county is so damn expensive) and lived with my bf at the time for a couple of years.  when we broke up, i moved back in with my mom for about 3 weeks, then got an apartment with a friend for about 9 months.  moved out of there and have been living on my own since.  i'll be moving in with my bf in the next couple of months.

I call home every few days, and go over for dinner every sunday (whenever possible). my dad is sick, so I always call home to check in. I love my parents and I was actually kind of uipset when I had to move out. it was great living home, but I moved in with a girl so there was no way to stay home. After I left, I realized how much better it is to be living on your own from a social perspective. Just having friends over and not having to be quiet, or having girls come back to your own place.

Screw that.

 

With the cost of housing being so high moving out too early is
foolish.  I stayed at home until I saved up $20,000 and was able to move
out and buy a place.  24 was when I did that, and that was about 3 months
ago.

Unless you have issues with your parents why not stay home and save
up?  Moving out just to move out is financially worthless.  Save up
your money and move out when you can buy.  Even renting is a black hole to
cash. 

What’s with America being the one place people can’t
live at home?  It seems that with every
other culture out there people stay living at home for a much longer time

I agree with the Lord, however, by age thirty you should be able to cut the cord and be out on your own already. It's just creepy.

23 when I left for the Marines.  I call every week and a half or so.  My sister's 28 and she's still living at home.  Doesn't look like she's moveing out any time soon.

Bah.I finally moved out at 25-26, because my father wouldn't
let me get out of the house in the morning to go to work without
starting a fight with me and he eventually tried to break my nose, so
that's when I left; shortly after that the website company I worked for
ran out of money, leaving me out of a job. I had to work two jobs,
which made me an oh-so-pleasent person, so I couldn't live with
roomates, and now my rent is so high, and I'm so deep in debt, and so
depressed about my crappy job that the urge to pop open a vein gets
stronger every day.

After graduating high school and moving back to the US from overseas, I took a year off to work before going to college when I turned 19, so that's when I first left home.  I moved back in with my parents in early 2002 when I was 22, but left less than a year later and have been out and about on my own ever since.

Moved out at 18 to join the Marines. I get out next summer, and will probably crash at home for a few months while I go to dive school, and get on my feet. Then back out on my own again.

24, when my folks moved to Wisconsin and I opted to stay on the East Coast.Unemployment and lack of funds forced me to join them a year, though I moved out again on my own shortly afterwards.

25now that you don't live at home, how often do you call your parents?I should call more than I do, but I do try a few times a month.  There was a time I didnt talk to them for like 3 months! My mom is going to have to call a swat team to get me out. I'm 20, and still live at home. I go to college and have a part time job.

I like my room, not to big, not to small. No big bills. Parents don't give me a hard time. Can buy lots of junk because of no rent (dvds,baseball cards,cloths)

On that note my mom said in a few years she wants to move south...I wonder if i'm going to like it down there.
