My Parents basement floods all the time, water comes right through the
cement. And they live in a real nice neighborhood. Sometimes it has to
do with just where your house is built. In their case, the water table
is only about 10-12 feet below their house, the nearest body of water
is about 5 miles away.

Meanwhile, my condo is about 200 feet from a bay, and I never get floods

If my basement got flooded, I don't know what I would do. I have a pool table and a foos ball table and Nintendo 64 and a dart board and Connect Four down there. You take those away from me, and I'm an animal I tells ya!!

my sump pump was working fine, checked it everyday HOWEVER!!! had some water come up above the floor in the opposite corner of the basement. i have a french drain basement floor and for some reason the water in one corner didn't make it's way around to the sump pump hole in the opposite corner fast enough

had a saturated rug... i cut it up in pieces and carried it out with a big rubbermaid container. no more rugs in the basement never had a drop of water in the basement till 8 years ago when we put the in-ground pool in. it must have changed how the water flows and settles around the house. may have to dig another hole and put a second sump pump in the opposite corner

stump

sorry to hear about your basement. we're still trying to get all the water out. there is still 4-5 in. everytime the shut the pumps off, the water level rises. luckily,it appears i only lost some books and maybe a tent. not sure if i feel like drying it out. hope everything works out for you. you might let the dvds dry off & see if they work.

i'm just glad that furie had moved most of the valuable/sentimental stuff to a storage unit, before this happened. but we have no hot water or heat and fromt he way it looks probably won't have them for a week. this really sucks.
Stump I can feel your pain. Right now I am trying to pump out My basement. Have two pumps running and still have no heat or hot water since the water is still mid calf in height and still rising a little but then I live about 5-6 feet above sealevel here.
you have two choices: Castration or a one way ticket to New York

got mine all dried up and put a fresh coat of paint on the floor. will probably get a throw rug for the sitting area. my co-workers a plumber and he suggests a second sump pump for the opposite corner. he said he'd lend me a jackhammer and a saw to make cuts in the concrete " oh goodie ". not sure if i want to get ino this project. he said he'd charge me 4 to 500 for the whole job which includes digging the hole, sump pump and pvc piping, "except electricity" he said he would usually charge 800.

decisions decisions decisions
