This thread is really for the guitar players, but I know there are quite a bit here so I figured I throw this out.

I've
been using a Dunlop Cry Baby wha for about 15 years and its finally
crapped out on me. Its not even a scratchy pot problem (which Ive had
to clean repeatedly over the years), now the wha just doesnt work.

I've
never been too impressed with the Dunlop and one of my gripes has been
a very narrow sweep range on the wha filter. Meaning, although the
pedal travels about 45 degrees from open to close, during the first 15
degrees there was little effect, then a great effect from 15 to 30 and
then little effect for the remaining 15 degrees.

Just
curious what other brands people like and what features. I know morley
makes the optical whas and also Ive notived a lot of cool features like
adjustable sweep ranges, etc.
No real range. I remember Eddie VH commented on these, actually seeking them out for performing 'Catherdral'; I'd go with a Morley.

It's designed for Bass but, I know of two working geet players that use it in their chain and both of them are extremely happy with it. Smooth sweeps, crackle free, and you can even adjust the "cry" depth.

I'm pretty sure their site is: www.tech21nyc.com

Many hate it, I love it. It has an extremely vocal and articulate sound. I use it for Guitar, Oud & Banjo. I had to make my own battery door in it cause the design necessitates removing the entire base to change the goddamned battery!

The Budda Bud Wah pedal is excellent. Somewhat pricey, but well-made with true-bypass switching. I had a Vox reissue wah that sounded great, but didn't have true-bypass switching, which meant that when the effect was not being used, it reduced the amount of high-end in the signal.

The Big-Fiber effect is the best for distortion, and Spacy Clean is great for songs like Black Velvet and One(U2). Also has nice flanger effect for songs like Lightning Crashes....

He would roll the tone pot on his Gibson completely off, whereas his Marshall stacks were run wide-open. The resulting sound would make Kate Smith blush, a fat woman tone indeed.

Try the Snarling Dog "Whino" wah. Go to :

http://www.snarlingdogs.com/

They have a lot of wah's, but I liked the red Whino one. Music123 or Musiciansfriend have it usually..I got mine from Music123.com

Go to the site and they have MP3's of the sounds to check out!

went right back to the original Cry baby. It just sounded the best to
me and after 12 years Im used to it.

thanks for the info though.

-e

The pedals I can not live without would be my Ibanez ts-808 tube screamer and ad-80 analog delay (both vintage). I prefer a vox wah over the cry-baby though. I have recently stripped my pedal board to the bone do to tone sucking issues. I plan on getting some modded with true bypass. I just bought an Eric johnson strat...Amazing Guitar!! Better than my 78 strat however, the frets get sticky when you sweat..I can live with that though.

I think EVH used that guitar alot on the first album. They had one at guitar center but I did'nt buy it. I wish I had.

I used to have a DOD pedal, I don't remember the specific model, as well as various controller/rack effects combos. The DOD definitely sounded different from the Cry Baby and was too small for my clown feet.
