<p>The test will not reveal anything definite. It
will only say if Curry is at higher risk to develop cardiomyiopathy. He
could potentially be at huge risk to develop it, yet never develop it.
You are dealing with a lot uncertainty that depending on how any one
doctor reads the test could end Curry's career.<br />
</p><p>Curry is the kind of player that will demand
HUGE money for a long term deal, so I think the Bulls were being overly
cautious to the point of trampling over privacy. I think Curry's
motives are obvious. He may have already had the test, or is waiting
until he gets a big deal before having it. I just don't like the idea
of employers forcing DNA tests just to manage risks.<br />
</p><p>The reason I know so much is that what they are fearing might
happen to Curry did happen to my father. The only reason he survived
was becuase of an experimental open heart surgery way back in the 70s.
They stopped doing it because the surgery completely fucks up
the electrical system in the heart. My father is the only one who had it
who is still alive, but he had a heart transplant because of how bad
his heart was, among other very serious side effects. The alternative
would be he would have died long ago, so we really can't complain.</p><p>I
got echos on my heart every 5 years when I was a child and that
satisfied my cardiologists, as do my cousins since it runs in our
family. The point is there are plenty of ways to find out if he has it,
and even to find risk factors outside of DNA tests. I can understand
the Bulls motives, but I really don't want to go down any road where
these kinds of tests can be forced on employees. It was a nice move on
the Bulls part to offer that money to Curry in case he "failed" the DNA
test, but it still was small compared to what he could make if he was
still playing.<br />
