...if there is such a thing.

I am constantly thanking folk: every single bus driver when i get off the bus, anyone who holds a door open for me, clerks and cashiers after i get my change, anyone in the GEAK SQUAD,

On the trains and buses I get give my seat to: fatties, old folk, pregnant women, children,

If someone drops something I always pick it up even if i have to go out of my way to do so,

AND i am honest to a fault. I have a horrible conscience, I can't do anything wrong, because I would just beat myself up (that coupled with the fact that my fingerprints are in the system) One time at the bodega there was a twenty on the counter when i went to pay and the clerk asked if it was mine and I said no....

It's a little much. right?

Does anyone else do these things? Or am I the sole polite and honest NYer?

I'm a normally nice person, polite and such. I take my frustrations out of the indian telemarketers for med websites. I never ordered anything on line and instead of just dealing with spam I have to deal with telemarketers now.

It makes me feel better.

If anything I am way too honest. That will screw you over everytime.
I'm actually very polite in person too. People usually like me when they meet me, and that's a good feeling. I also believe in the old karma kind of thing. The Christians called it "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" but karma is easier to type. I mean I know that the evil go unpunished and then a carload of babies will burn, but I have the "what goes around comes around" kind of mentality in my head. It's not really a bad way to live.

The way I look at it is if everyone just tries to be honestly nice to another person, that will make their day better, and in the long run down the road, make the world a better place. I really do believe this, most of the time.

If you come off like an asshole right off the bat, you'll either get ignored or told you're a piece of shit.

Nothing wrong with a little politeness. I do the same, thank cashiers, toll booth attendants, etc. If they are rude or obnoxious, i'll usually just walk away, unless they'e really assholes, then i might say something. Once food shopping had my stuff on the conveyor, kid was a moron on top of being an asshole, told him to basically fuck off & just left everything for him to clean off.

Telemarketers get no courtesy or mercy. Actually now if I do pick up the phone, i'll just click it off without saying a word.

I'm polite to a fault as well, as long as you don't expect it in return. Just keep in mind some people have bad days. I left a gas station once because the guy was on his cell phone and made me feel like I was bothering him. It ruined my day.

I would have done the same thing. I always ask for the manager. Is that wrong of me.

I called my bank a "Sneaky Pete" because they tried to [on-line] transfer over $8000 to a credit card account. All they could tell me was, "It's no big deal. You will get your insufficient fund transaction refunded to you.

That's right, Sneaky Pete!

pretty much the same here... i say 'bless you' to strangers sometimes and co-workers. make a point to hold the door even when that person is a fair distance away but i catch them out of the corner of my eye

i found out with driving you can't be too polite. when it's your turn to advance past the stop sign then go for it, don't be too nice to the other guy cause you screw the guy behind ya.

I've always done my best to be polite. What I'm most proud of is the fact that my son is, too. His teachers often tell me he's one of the most polite kids in his school.

My idea of being rude is, when someone doesn't tip me for a delivery, I (on rare occasions) don't say "have a nice evening". If I don't say that, it means you are a total asshole.

I guess what Babaz is worrying about is being polite to people who don't deserve it. That's not such a clear line to draw from time to time. I mean the average shmoe on the street didn't do anything to you, so if you're nice to them you really haven't gone out of your way. If you're nice to them and they're an asshole back, then you stop being nice to them right then and there, and there's really nothing lost.

Actually, in seriousness, I dont like people talking themselves up.
I hold doors for people, alot do. I dont see that as being polite, I
see that as something you just do. I thank people for it, but it doesnt
come off as an extra effort to be polite. Thats why I was somewhat
harsh.

But, by all means, be as mean to me as
you'd like. Unlike alot of people here, I expect to get that with some
of the shit I say.

double the tax, unless its a real small bill. Like breakfast at a
diner, which can be under $6 sometimes. Then I'll just do a minimum
tip, which is usually something like $3.

I have no idea how the waitresses or the guy who owns the diner makes a living selling eggs and coffee.
