We don't know exactly how long ago Jack met Desmond while Jogging. But it seemed to be early in Jack's career (He had longer hair and no tattoos that I remember seeing, yet in that other flashback when his Dad was Operating under the influnce, Jack had short hair and seemed to be older and wiser)Some of the stuff in the bunker seemed to be new while a lot of it seemed to be old stuff, but it doesn't really put a time frame on how long Desmonds been sealed up in their.I'm most intrested in the Quarantine sign (looks like the outside of the hatch is the quarantined area) and what Desmond was injecting himself with (something to protect himself from whatever that Quarantine is.

Adding to the Desmond speculations...  the etymology of the name means: From a surname which was derived from Gaelic Deas-Mhumhan meaning "from south Munster". This is why I love this show.  Desmond in the bunker?!  Didn't see that one coming.Before I was leaning towards a Gaia island, an island that was alive somehow.Now I'm think some kind of crazy experiment.But Desmond injected himself with something.  I'm thinking he some kind of super-solider.  I bet Ethan Rom was living with him in that bunker as well.  The magnatism - perhaps part of an huge energy source - that moves the island.  Hence the strange tides and the fact no one can find them.  The Island is floating.

I hope they do start answering some questions, they have lots of things going on so there is no lack of mystery, but they shouldn't just leave everything open ended.

Of course they will... but not too quickly.  They have over 20 episodes to go... and a third season most likely.  So don't expect any answers anytime soon.

Wait a minute. Was the woman in Jack's Flashback the same woman that he married In a flashback from Last Season, he fixed his finance's back, was that the same woman? She was getting married to that other guy.Also, wasn't the guy who died (from the other car that the woman had an accident with) also Shannon's father? His name was "Adam Rutherford" and that's her last name.

I re-watched the flashback from Episode 20 of last season. I'm not sure it looked like the same actress (I'll need to re-watch last night's episode to be sure) but from what she said during her toast to Jack (descibing her accident with an SUV 2 1/2 years earlier) it has to be the same woman

Im just dying to know how Desmonds "race around the world" winds up
with him locked in some nearly inpenetrable bunker in the middle of
some island... Ethan and Desmond arent the only
"others" though. What about the people on the boat? Where do they fit
in? And if Ethan indeed lived with Desmond then how did he get in and
out if the hatch cant be opened and the ladder is broken...

I have a feeling that we will see that this Desmond guy will have interacted with all the people on the island at one point in their lives. That leads me to a question. I'm not sure how anyone would actually find this info or if anyone could actually remember it, but I'll give it a shot. Remember back during one of Jin's episodes when he was struggling with his loyalty to Sun's father and his committment to Sun? There was a scene in a bathroom, which I believe might have been the airport and a caucasian guy came up to him and started to talk to him in Korean. It turned out to be some guy warning Jin not to cross Sun's father and to finish the job he was sent to do. My question is this. Was that caucasian guy Desmond?

True. But I also agree with Kimp Imp that Desmond
probably interacted with everyone on the island once in their
lives.  Or he's a crazy stalker of Jack for years and that's

On the DVDs they were talking to te writers and they mentioned that the story that they have right now could play out for like 7 years so they must have a skeleton of what they want.No way the guy in the airport bathroom was Desmond.I also didnt catch that the " medicine " Desmond injected had the numbers on it.I stopped it to see if I could see what it said and all I could make out was " RX-1 "My thinking is that Desomd didnt originate in the bunker but somehow he wound up down there.The meeting with Jack had to have been withing the last 10-15 years whereas that bunker was older than that.They purposely went out of their way to show that Desmond hit an " Execute " key on the computer which leads me to belive that it is an old computer.When was the last time they had execute keys on a computer ?What a douche that fiance guy was huh ?

I'm sure there are a bunch of others from Season 1, but I think they are going to keep stressing that these people have been tied together in some way before Flight 815 boarded.

latest those things were used was in the 80s.  Those are the kind
of things you see in old episodes of Twilight Zone and old sci fi
movies.  
I'd say 60s or 70s for that stuff, maybe earlier?  Forbin Project movie era stuff.

The thing that botheres me most about Desmonds bunker is everything  looks like it came out of the 70's or early 80's, excersise machines, the computer equipment, audio gear etc.Except the god damn washer dryer set in the corner they look like the just got delivered from Best Buy yesterday.

I didnt get that from the weapons at all, the pistols looked sort of retro and the rifles had wood stocks which made them look old to me, but the there is that crazy telescope set up that looked kind of future tech to me with the light at all

I kinda hope they don't spend the whole next episode with the raft people but I guess since they didn't show them (except Walt for a few seconds) last week, they might just do that.I don't want to wait until next week to hear what Desmond has to say to Jack. And I really don't care much about the whole raft plotline. I'm all about that Hatch/Bunker/Apple II plotline.

Behold! The power of Tivo! Did anyone else catch the
same symbol was on the shark as it passed? I have Tivo confirmation. It
was on the bottom underneath of the shark. Also the words storm and
sick were on the Mural wall. I couldn't catch what was written on the

Interesting episode. Basically following the 1st episode, but from a different perspective. I liked that. From what I can gather, the numbers somehow stop some sort of countdown. This is twice that an alarm went off and they had to input the numbers into the computer. Plus there was some sort of countdown on the wall that they made sure to focus on. As for Desmond, I have a feeling he's not a bad guy. Who he is or what he's doing there, I have no clue, but he definitely did not expect to see humans and even made mention that he was surprised there even was a world still out there. This place is definitely some kind of fallout shelter.

Just like last season, this show is frustrating me again.  It has a very UNsatisfying flow to it.  It just never pays off.  Example:Hugo Hurley tells Jack an amazing story about the mysterious numbers.  How he acquired them, that he played them in a lottery and won a bajillion dollars, then that the numbers have brought him bad luck, THEN that THOSE EXACT SAME NUMBERS-IN THAT EXACT ORDER-WERE PRINTED ON THE UNDERGROUND HATCH ON THEIR "DESERTED" ISLAND.And what happens?  Does Jack even raise an eyebrow?  Does he even flinch when Hugo says he won almost 200 million? Does he say "What?? That's amazing!  That can't be possible!!  Are you sure it's the same numbers??!"  Nope.He does nothing.  He says nothing. He merely continues to walk and in a very dismissive manner says to Hugo "Hey, coincedences happen all the time" Stuff like that is where the show really turns me off.  That exchange had the POTENTIAL to be some of the most important dialog of the series.  It could've been the beginning of the Surviviors starting to realize/accept that there are some bigger forces at work.  Instead, the scene just fizzled.  I was waiting for them to start opening up to each other and realizing that they were, in one way or another, connected before the crash.  Payoff, man.  Gimme SOMETHING!

There was absolutely no shock or wonder concerning how those numbers could have made it from this island all the way back to the States and Hurley. As much as Hugo is a main character, he will always be nothing more than the "comic relief" of the show.

Why would Jack care if he won the lotto and was worth $200 million, what good does money do trapped on an island they can't escape.I think Jack is just more concerned with living minute to minute and keep the rest of the group safe then to worry about some numbers.  He is dismissive becasue survival is on the top of his mind.

I don't really expect to him to care about the actual money, but I definitely DO expect him to be amazed at the coincedence that the numbers he used to win the money appeared, in that exact order, on an underground chamber on an island that is supposedly deserted.Let me put it another way:  WE care!  When we (the audience) saw all that stuff with the numbers coming together, WE were saying "wow" and "oh my god" to each other.  Entire websites are dedicated to what the numbers mean.  We all want to know, "is it a combination?"  "Are they map coordinates?", "what could they mean?"   WE all wanna know.  Hurley wants to know.  Jack? Not so much.  If those numbers on the hatch were say, Jacks home phone number....THEN would he be amazed?  Would it mean something to him THEN?  Or would he think it was just a coincedence and coincedences happen all the time?  For the winning lotto numbers to appear on that hatch, on that island, in that order, is more amazing to me than actually surviving the plane crash!

I don't it doesn't really help with time-framing Desmond at all, but the song he plays is "Make your Own Kind of Music"  by Mama Cass, originally released in 1969.  Definitely too early, plus it was not the first track on the LP as it seemed to be in the scene.  Don't know if it was released as a single but I figured in that case it would've been on 45.

SKW, i should say thank you for taking that time to do that, i don't have HD tv and did not see the symbol on the shark.Just an fyi, in the first episode if you watch it with Close Captioning on it shows Kate screaming Jack's name from the ventilation shaftAnd another tidbit though from season 1 - the guy that the hobbit killed, ethan rom, will if you take his name and change the letters around you get:  other man - so he was one of the others?????I wonder if Adibeze will be wearing the tiny hat on his head as one of the others

Ethan Rom can also be " More Than ".You guys are good.I totally didnt catch that symbol on the shark.The only thing " secretive " I pulled out of this episode is that the room where Michael was being questioned by his wife's lawyer looked a lot like the room where the pregnant chick was gonna sign away her baby when the pens didnt work and she decided to leave.That could be a coincidence or just one of those things they want you to focus on that really has nothing to do with anything.

Before they get to far into this fake shark, wouldn't it be better for them to expand on the "Monster" that was heard and almost seen on the first show? Locke has seen it up close twice, Jack must have seen something (unless the thing that was dragging Locke through the woods was a different "monster")

I was thinking that he has some kinda rage thing.He was looking at the pic of the bird and when he raised his voice the bird died.I dont think he's got any powers, say like Carrie, because wouldnt the guys who kidnapped him have felt the " rage " ?I think the polar bear references are just forshadowing.I think for what ever reason an old slave ship was on that island somehow ploar bears got there as well.And maybe a mechagodzilla or 2.

I believe it keeps the magnet going and if he weren't to access the computer the magnetic force would stop. I also think this magnet is what is drawing everything to the island (ships and planes). I also now believe that Hurley's friend Leonard in the psych ward was at one time on this island and stuck in the hatch himself. That is why he is now crazy and why he keeps repeating the numbers.

(maybe)I suppose you are right that the Electro-magnetic field COULD be what caused the plane crashes but.... if the magnet WAS responsible, I think it would be doing more than slightly tugging at Jacks necklace and making Desmonds teeth ache.  I mean, a magnet that could draw in two planes (that we know of) and several boats would be A LOT stronger than that, no?  But yes, you're probably right that it is, at least, somewhat responsible.  Maybe it messes up navigational instruments or somethin'.  Once again, I am both happy and aggravated by the episode.  YES, we learned a lot about this or that but, once again, Jack was not at all amazed by a f'cking out-of-this-world "coincedence".  Why the hell wouldn't Jack be freeeaking out when he sees/recognizes Desmond?  "OH MY GOD! YOU"RE THE GUY WHO I TALKED TO IN THE STADIUM THAT DAY!!  THIS IS AMAZING!  IT CAN'T BE A COINCEDENCE THAT I MET YOU THE SAME DAY I MET MY WIFE AND NOW YOU'RE HERE ON THE DESERTED ISLAND WHERE MY PLANE CRASHED!"And, once again, Hurley didn't REALLY do anything when the numbers came up.  Sure, he told them to stop and he even started to yell a bit but..... I don't think he acted like you or I would've reacted in that same situation. It takes me right out of the moment when a character does something unrealistic like that.

Did they even hint at what would happen if the code isn't entered within the 108 minutes?I think Jack acted like he always has, he recogonized Desmond (the third time they played out that same scene!) but doesn't believe in a purpose to the island or the numbers. He puts up a strong front and then breaks down a little later on (when he was talking about his wife with Desmond outside)So are all the 44 surviovors going to take turns pressing the button?Where is Desmond going?Why can Jin speak English? I don't believe he would have been hiding the fact that he could speak English like Sun did. I agree with the frustration, but it's still good. I wonder what info we missed in the orientation film when it skipped and the audio messed up.About Jin; unless he somehow is in cahoots with the others and really knows English, the only other thing I can think of is a dream sequence. Perhaps a nightmare??

The spoiler doesn't have anything to do with that, it's about Jin.I do hope they do have a finite number of seasons. 4 would be good, 3 would be better (That about how long I was into X-Files and Sopranos) 4 would allow ABC to make a bunch of money, the actors to become stars (move into movies) and having it be planned out to end after 2+ more seasons would let the story end and not drag on and on.

They've already told us that the car that hit Jack's wife was driven by a 57 year old man that died ( and who somebody on the board cleverly pointed out is probably Shannon's dad because they both had the name Rutherford ).I looked at the guy in the window a few times and I dount it's Locke's dad.I think the Michelle Rodriguez group is just hostile because they have probably had runins with the Others too and they assume that Sawyer and them may be a part of it.Jack continues to annoy me as he has no answer for all of these wierd occurences yet continues to blast Locke for believing that something is wierd.I mean you run into a guy that you met a while ago halfway around the world who just happened to also crash on an unchartered island yet you dont think thats peculiar ?I was trying to get a view of a book that was amongst the things that Desmond was garbbing before he left the hatch.It looked like it was called " The Though Police " or something like that.It was right when he was grabbing the viles of whatever he shoots himself with.It could be something they just wanted viewers to focus on that means nothing or it could be some clue of other things.

Thanks.I had the Status Bar on and it was blocking out all of that stuff at the bottom.I totally think that's fake.It sounds too cheesy even for a regular zombie movie.This show is too highbrow to try and pull that off.At least I hope so.I tried making anagrams of that Alvar Hanso guys name but couldnt come up with anything good.

In the preview, they show Ana-Lucia leading people down a tunnel and says "We're here." I have a feeling that it probably leads to another of the underground facilities on the island. Since that Orientation movie said 3 of 6, that leads me to believe that there are probably 6 underground facilities, just like Desmond's.

There was another octagonal symbol on the wall of the station that Walt, Sawyer and Jin were in that was different from the Swan symbol from the Hatch.   I didn't get a good look at it but I'm positive that it was different.Other than that, no real clues - overt or otherwise.

Another good Hurley backstory.  He's easily my favorite castaway.  And the Rose plotline is turning out to be a nice one.  I do not like the Michele Rodriguez character - as of right now - too much of a wanna be bad ass bitch.  I was so hoping Sawyer would have decked her.Nothing has frustrated me on the show until the 108 min. countdown.  There is no way I, or any other rational human would take shifts to press a button and not know why.  Not on blind faith.  But I'm hoping someone will let it run down soon.  Like at the end of the episode, everyone was on the beach, having a good time - but whose shift was it?!  Everyone who knew about the 108 countdown was on the beach.

I thought the episode was unfulfilling as wellI did notice, at least so i thought, that the symbol on wall in the Tailies bunker looked different.I loathe Michelle Rodriguez in everything shge's in because she always plays that same ridiculous chip on her shoulder chick but I think they will down play that going forward.I think Rose is gonna somehow be more at the center of this whole thing because she's rarley used so you wont " suspect " her and she's just too confident in everything especially " knowing " her husband was alive.Did anybody find any hidden symbolism in this episode ?

Not a whole lot really "happened" There was not enough Locke or Hurley (My favorite characters):The "Tail Enders" decided to gather some food and water and travel to the other side of the island to where the "Mid Section" survivors are located (I guess since they have done a much better job at keeping their survivors alive). Michael ran off to find Walt. Jin and "Mr Echo" went to find Michael to protect him from "The Others"Sun lost her wedding ring and talked to Jack, Hurley, Locke and Kate about it. Sun also showed Kate the bottle from last week, Kate misses Sawyer.Flashback: Sun and Jin's lives just before they met. Sun was being setup to date a hotel heir (The Korean Lex Luthor), Jin got a job as doorman at that hotel.

The show is losing steam, right?I was hoping that the tail-survivors would open up new plots and possibilities but, it doesn't seem to be working out that way.  We're still dealing with the Kate-Jack-Sawyer love triangle, Locke is still running around the jungle stopping only to dispense wisdom while cleaning his knife, and The Hobbit is still ending every scene he's in by walking off in a whiney fit of anger.A few more ep's like these and I might stop watching and just read the SKW LOST REPORT every week. Although the episode didnt have a lot going on it was better than last week's.I liked the background on Jin & Sun.The part with Kate " longing " for Sawyer was kinda lame.I continue to hope for Michael to get a harpoon through the heart.What an unlikable character.Another episode that didnt appear to have any " hidden meanings ".

Here's a thought, not mine, but an interesting one that might be addressed.  I got this from mediavillage.com and it's article, <a href="http://www.mediavillage.com/jmentr/2005/10/18/jmer-10-18-05/" target="_blank">Lost in its Sophomore Season is Still Broadcast at its Best</a>."...so here's a fresh observation for fans to think about, as well as the show's writers if they haven't already. Last week, Hurley was put in charge of the food products that were in the bunker. He decided to quickly distribute them among all of his fellow plane-crash survivors rather than attempt to ration them over time. "There's enough food in there to feed one guy three meals a day for three months," he explained to Jack, adding that, with more than 40 people on the island, rationing those supplies wouldn't work. Now then, if as we have been told the Dharma Corporation's assignment had been for two people to monitor the timer in the bunker and reset it every 108 minutes, Hurley's conclusion would mean the remaining food was meant to feed two people for another month and a half, rather than one person for three months. The other person who had been working the timer with Desmond is dead, but if the mysterious Dharma operatives don't know that, then a fresh shipment of food is due to arrive in 45 days to keep Desmond and his colleague going. Further, it has been determined that the first season of Lost covered approximately that much time. If the narrative pacing remains the same, that means someone (or a number of people) from Dharma should be due to make an appearance on the island at the end of season two, bringing with them food and maybe two new timer watchers. Discuss."

 Swap out Walt for Charlie in the 8 elite.  I think Walt is already dead.  Both times Sannon saw him he was covered in water and it looked to me like he had drowned.  Also, I think the "other" seen walking through the jungle with the dangling teddy bear is probably Alex, the French woman's missing daughter.

Those bastards!! Fans of Lost shouldn't be getting all hot and bothered about those cursed numbers on the show because apparently the series producers don't even know what they mean. When TV Guide.com asked co-creator DAMON LINDELOF about the significance of the numbers -- 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42 -- he replied, quote, "I think that question will never ever be answered." Lindelof says he can't even imagine how they could ever answer that question. Lindelof says the numbers will continue to appear in the show, but it boggles his mind when people constantly ask him what they mean. Lindelof says fans who analyze every aspect of every episode of Lost are reading way too much into the show.

I actually though the episode was alright though I was wanting more about the Others.They've lost some of their mystery as 4 of them were killed. 2 By Mr Echo, which is plausible, and 2 by Annalucia.Any idea where they're going with the " he was a bad person " and thats why he wasnt " taken " ?

Tonight's new episode is the 10th episode of Season 2, let's not start this Season 2.5 shit. BTW In the latest <a href="http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/podcasts/index.html" target="_self">official podcast</a> they said there would be other long breaks like this past 6 week one. A normal network season runs from September to May. They can't put out new ones every week. Last year they were more spread out. This year they wanted to have longer periods of consecutive new shows but that means longer periods of reruns between those new shows. They also said there would be 24 hours of Lost this year, so they may not have a 2 hour final show like last year (unless they go with 23 episodes)

All I can say is I'm a damned fool...I did not give this show a chance and I finally broke down and bought Season 1 a few weeks ago. I am now completely addicted to this show. I am so miserable that I can not watch season two until it starts reruns. I know to much as it is about season two, but I feel left out <img src="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/down.gif" border="0" />. I know this is old news by now, I'm late to the game, but Locke is fantastic. Sayid is amazing, though I hear he is going insane... I know about the tail section survivors and I know they got in the Hatch. I know Saywer, Jin and Micheal got back to the island. I don't know about Walt though.  Seasons 1's greatest scene is the idiot blowing himself up. Hysterical...Sorry, I'll catch up soon...

FANTASITC episode last night.OK... so we got a good look at the smoke monster - and the images it flashed to Mr. Echo.  It still sounded mechanical though.  Walt at the other end of the computer?  Doubt it.Loved the Mr. Echo backstory.  And the Charlie surprise at the end.  Didn't really think he'd go that way - although he hasn't been using.

So do you think there are different monsters? This one seemed to be the same one/type that Locke saw early last season and the one that dragged him at the end of last season.I guess we'll learn more about Walt-chat next week Spoiler:->>"This is our Island" if one of the "others" is the one who said that, from the preview for next week. How can they be mad at the Flight 815 people? They didn't invade the island. At least some of the others know that (One showed up minutes after the tailies crashed) so maybe there are different groups of others.I love this fucking show!

I think the "smoke" might be different from the ... well, "blowing up trees" monster... but if you noticed the smoke flashed some images when confronting Mr. Echo.  Maybe it was reading his mind, because those flashed were from his backstory (IMDB Lost messageboard has links to still frames).  So maybe this thing reads your fears and then becomes what you fear most.Mr. Echo fears nothing, therefore nothing happened.  But that sounds too easy for this show.

Dammit!!! My Tivo caught the anthology episode from 8-9, but didnt get the real megillah from 9-10, it's TERRIBLE to start a season by missing the 1st show!!!
