Do I need a new computer?

I have a 2001 Compaq. I only use it for school reports and looking up websites. I have to up-grade it's programs. How long does a computer last on average. I'm not one to get something new until it's distroyed.

<p>I've always heard 3-4 years is the life of a hard drive.&nbsp; I'd say BACK UP anything important NOW. CD-RW burners are getting very cheap now, and the media is like pennies a disc when purchased properly.</p><p>I don't really know about the components.&nbsp; I mean if you're not using it to edit Flahs movies, then you're good.&nbsp; </p><p>What size is your Hard Drive?&nbsp; What processor are you running?&nbsp; DOes it still have SCSI ports on it?&nbsp; How much RAM and what kind?&nbsp; How many open expansion slots does it have? </p><p>It probably has a VERY old Mother board that won't take a lot of upgrades.</p><p>Sorry, that's about the extent of my computer knowledge.&nbsp; I'd defer to my friend Grim Sanity now, if he still posted here.&nbsp; But he's moved off the Reef and back onto the huge new USS O&amp;A.</p>
