I'm just throwing this out there in hopes that somebody actually knows something about these things. I will be getting issued one pair of regular glasses and some "work" goggles that block %100 of UV rays. Its strongly suggested that I bring a pair of my own because in 5 month of work the odds of that 1 pair not being stolen, broken or lost is fairly remote. I plan on buying my own pair. I've been to the basic sunglass hut type places in the malls and this same pair keeps showing up as the cheapest at around $150. I dont like them at all and a lot of light comes in around the lens from the top and bottom and they seem flimsy. Whatever I wear down there has to have plastic frames cause metal will freeze to the skin, and its either gotta have side guards or be the wrap around atyle so nothing from the sides can get it. AND i gotta have one of them cords around the back so they dont fall off. Anybody thats been somewhere that snowblindness is a defenite without proper eyewear would be a big help Im guessing.

Thanks.

Oh yea, in Walgreens I think, i found some things that are for wear over regular glasses, so theyre huge and fit pretty well, plus theyre plastic and they were only $20. It says Polorized right on the fuckers so I guess they gotta be, but I still dont trustem for only $20. Thanks, Frosty_Sacknuts

They're called Old People Sunglasses, and they protect you after you get Cataracts removed.

I have a friend who works in a surfshop and she highly reccomends polarized sunglasses... They are more money, but they work. Maui Jim's make great polarized sunglasses- but again- $$$$$

Apart from the polarization and the UV protection (which you can get in glasses costing like $10) the more important question is how much light transmission are you looking for (light transmission being how dark the glasses are an an issue completely separate from polarization or UV blockage)? I have wraparound polarized glasses for fishing that I spent like $30. On the other hand, if you're using them to protect from snowblindness, you're going to want something a lot darker - I am guessing that what you're looking for are glacier glasses. Forget sunglasses stores in the malls or whatever; get yourself to an outdoor goods store. You should be able to get something appropriate for around $50 (althought they can be much more) - for example, at Eastern Mountain Sports you can get a pair of julbos (good brand of glacier glasses) for that price. Online you could check rei.com, mgear.com, backcountrygear.com, etc. or try ebaying glacier glasses.

Or take two pairs and put them at 90 degrees to each other. If they're both polarized, you will not be able to see through them.

You can always get a welder's mask, it'll probably do alot more than a pair of sunglasses.

What you need is a pair of Costa Del Mar sunglasses. The green mirror or blue mirror lenses, they are made specifically for snowboarding/deep sea fishing/etc. Super anti-glare, and super durible. They do not make sunglasses that are not polarized at all. Beware though polarized sunglasses do change your color perception sometimes-- because of the the polorization filter and the blue light spectrum filter thats not normally blocked from your vision. It takes some getting used to. As stated in a previous thread, good shades are an investment- so is it worth it to your eyes and the health of your vision? I think so.....

i would definetly check out costa del mars website- you will not believe that sunglass lens technology is at the level that its at- this company is rediculous- jsut see how they hype their lenses its sick, layer after layer of all kinds of crap. They have them at outdoor stores like- bass pro shops- cabelas- or directly from the web site I think. I got mine after going deep sea fishing in southern mexico and noticing that all the fisherman where whering them, knowing how expspensive they were, and knowing the poverty level of the country, i was curious to know why all the guys were wearing these shades- I just assumed they had to be good. So i researched them on the website, which i suggest you do, and was really impressed. Got them- and now_"I see whats out there" well jsut trying to help- a texas perspective atleast..... :) take care ya'll

i love ronfez.net

"AAAAAAAHHHHHHH man!
