It comes in black. Looks sweet. I must've done a piss poor job of searching in MySimon becaus it only gave me one credible link, to Crutchfield, and I only saw the 20 and 40 ( I think !!! ).I was using a Creative Nomad Zen Xtra, 60 GB for which I paid 400 bucks back in 2/04 but it just froze up on me.I emailed them and they were like " Yeah the hard drive goes bad on those "I was like well what are you gonna do about it ?They said that since I bought it from a 3rd party ( Dell ) that they'd have to refund and/or replace it.I was like well what can I do about the 5000 songs that are on the harddrive.They were like " Nothing. It'll have to be reset either way "Nice compnay.  Way to have something crap out after less than 2 years and then be matter of factly about it.

That NANO is sweeet.My main gripe about the shuffle was that it didn't have a display screen.  Some people are bitching that the headphone input jack is on the "bottom" of the device but, I think it's a much more thoughtful design.  If you're wearing it around your neck, and it hangs "upside down", the screen will be readable when you look down at it AND the headphone jack will be pointing up at your chin.  PERFECT!  The phones won't be tugging at the far-side of the device.Apple knows their sh*t.

I put the word bottom in quotes because, in some ways, it's not really the bottom of the device.  if you wear it the way they want you to wear it (upside down) then it's actually the top.  It's only the bottom of the device when the unit is on display. Which does kinda seem weird. "I invented 'quotation fingers' although....I can't back that up with 'paperwork'"-Dr. Evil Also it looks like there's gonna be a HARRY POTTER iPod.  iTunes acquired all the Potter audiobooks.  I predict there will be some type of "Harry Podder" joke on SNL in 3....2.....<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v355/tucker71/fezident.jpg" border="0" /> "Jam out with your clam out"

have had problems with my iPod before, and Apple was nothing but
helpful.  They went so far as to completely replace my iPod with a
brand new one.  I had all my music backed up at home, but I'm sure
they would have transferred it to if I needed it.

bad ass.  Small as fuck, the screen is very crisp, and sounds good.

Has anyone figured out exactly what file types of video this thing will play?  I didn't see any info on Apple website.  I'm salivating over picking one of these up, but if it only plays quicktime or some apple proprietary format that I've never heard of, it will be a little less attractive to me.

I'd assume it would play .mov files, but I've
read it plays .mp4 files and it also supports the h.264 codec, which is
the best video codec out there today. Files using h.264 would be under
the .mp4 extension.

Not that hard, however its very time
consuming.
Once you know what you are doing you'll only have to spend 5-10 minutes
of work, but the time it takes your computer to convert the files
from the DVD to a file that will play in your iPod will take at least
an hour.

Okay, I don't want to even address decoding DVDs since that can end up being a legal issue:If I had a DVD without copy protection (like a home movie someone burned for me) and it's already decoded and sitting on my Hard Drive as a bunch of those .vob files. What program would I use to covert that into a file like .mov or .mp4, or even a .avi or .mpg?<a href="http://www.xmradio.com/programming/channel_page.jsp?ch=202" target="_blank"><img src="http://scripts.cgispy.com/image.cgi?u=skw" border="0" /></a>

Not exactly. As per the Digital Millenium Copyright
Act, it is illegal to circumvent any kind of copy protection, which
commercial DVDs use. That obviously conflicts with fair use rights, but
that is current law.

I don't know of any program that would
automatically do something like that. But doing that is like
trying to untie somekind of gordian knot. I'm not sure, but some
program like that wouldn't make video that could be played on the video
iPod, but it would convert the file so you could play it on your
computer. At least, that's what I'm guessing.

There are squillions of software programs out there that can easily convert (just about) any format to any format.  Including MPEG4 and .MOVThere is a fairly popular video editing program called PINNACLE STUDIO 9. Costs around 50 bucks.(Pinnacle is now owned by AVID)You drag your existing video clip into the storyboard, edit it (if desired), click on "make movie", give the project a title, and then you just select your format.  In this case....select "mpeg 4". It won't work ALL the time. Sometimes, there are issues with the frame rates.  Especially if somebody sends you some crappy video from their friggin' phone camera.  Those are usually 15 frames per second...and you will have a problem.  The main gripe aboot the new iPod is; the actual quality of the image doesn't seem to be all that great.  I've never converted anything at that 320 resolution and at 700kbps but, then again...I've never watched a video on a 2 inch screen.  Maybe, on that teeny little screen it will look really good.  You might not notice any flaws or artifacts. BUT: those same (converted) files will look like complete and total GARBAGE on your computer screen.  In other words, if you rip and convert a movie, it MAY look good on your iPod but, you should keep the original (ripped) version on your computer hard drive.  Just something to think aboot if you don't have a ton of storage.<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v355/tucker71/fezident.jpg" border="0" /> I invented "quotation fingers" but, I can't really back that up "paperwork".

Jesus, I'm behind the times AGAIN!  I was give the U2 iPod last Christmas close to when it was still hot.  Less that a fucking year later, I have a boring black LCD screen 20 Gig iPod that no one wants anymore.Fuck you Apple.

That's WAY too complicated and time-consuming, and
the double compression will hurt picture quality. If you convert
straight from .VOB to .MP4 with h.264, it's much quicker and you'll get
maximum quality. And, most importantly, you can do that using free
programs. I'd bet you can use some of the programs that PSP users use,
like PSP Video 9, to convert the files and I'll bet they'd work on the
video iPod. Obviously I can't check so don't take my word for it, but
the specs seem the same.

Has anyone picked up one of the new Ipod video models?  Any thoughts?  I finally got to see one in action at a Best Buy playing a music video, and it looked pretty good.

Ahh, I'm such a cranky bitch.I went to the Apple Store in the Rockaway Mall in NJ, and holy shit was I blown away.  Great sleek look to the place.  All metal on the walls, looks all futuristic and shit.  While I was wating for the people to help me, I fucked around with the new iPod video and was AMAZED how small that Nano was.  So awesome.  The Apple people were so nice, I'm probably gonna stick with Apple for my MP3 playing needs, even though I was all pissy at 1st.Shit just looks awesome.  And it's very user friendly.  Now if they could only get software for their comps I may even think of going to Mac.

I can't believe they are having such difficulty getting it to market.] Me too.  I purchased a pioneer airware and was totally unhappy with its performance.  The reception was great walking around the city but uneven at home etc.  Also recording the show worked only sometimes.  That particular problem may or may not have been a user problem as I'm not gadget savy but even so for the amount of money involved was unacceptable.  I returned it and am waiting patiently (while poor Fezzy has a heart attack!!!!) for the mp3 model.
