Good for Edmonton, owning Detroit like that. And almost all the commentators I saw said that Detroit was just going to roll over Edmonton.

He used to be tied at 6 with Maurice Richard, now he's all alone. My Avs sure made that one interesting for me, but I'll take a 2-0 series lead as a 7 seed. Now they head back to Colorado too.

You shouldn't have posted until it was over stupid! But wow do the wings dive all over the ice or what??!! First Chelios on the hook, the horrible goalie interference call on Edmonton that took away a goal, the Maltby dive when the stick never touched him, the other horrible call where the Edmonton defenseman cleared the puck up the ice out of the D zone only to have it hit a red wing skate yet the refs called a delay of fucking game!!! How bad can the refs call this game? If the wings win it, I purpose it was only possible via the terrible officiating, not actuall work, skill or goaltending. The refs kept giving them make up calls bc they themselves were making so fucking many bad penalties themselves. The refs had no choice to call those, but they don't have to create calls to "even" it out. It's hard to watch this game right now.

This message was edited by spoon on 4-26-06 @ 12:58 AM
I apologize. The Red Wings are cheap like that because Chelios knows that if he's forced to skate, he'll throw his hip out. I've never liked him, and I almost take it personally that he hasn't retired yet. I don't know why so many people like him.

Interesting fact, all three Northwest Division teams in the playoffs are leading their series right now. Edmonton is up 2-1 on the #1 seed, Colorado is up 2-0 on the #2 seed and Calgary is up 2-1 on the #6. One can at least say that the division was playing playoff type hockey all season and it's showing right now. The only other team up in the Western Conference, San Jose, is up against another weak Central opponent. Sure the Preds took a goalie hit, but they only had one tough team to play in division all year. It's a long way from over, but wow does that speak volumes for the NW division at this point. Sure they beat the shit out of eachother all year, but it definitely has them ready for playoff hockey. Still think the division didn't help out the records of the Central teams? The fifth place team in the Pacific and Northwest Division's had more points then the third place team in the Central. While every team in the NW finished the year above .500.

Fucking Sakic just missed another overtime goal last night!!! It didn't matter bc Tanguay got it only seconds later to put the Avs up 3-0. I hope the Avs put this to bed on Friday, but I do fear a long wait/layoff. Hopefully the Oilers can take out the Wings as well so they'll draw the next highest seed (possibly Calgary) and the Avs would then get the SJ/Nash winner. Pick your poison I guess, but Detroit would definitely not be my first option. Get'er Done Edmonton!!!

The officiating in this Detroit-Edmonton game is abominable. I know the NHL stressed they were going to call the games as strictly in the playoffs as they did in the regular season, but it's like watching basketball.

Let 'em play for Christ's sake.

The Philadelphia Phlyers phsuck. PhBooooooo!

Congratulations Manny. Barring a minor miracle, your Oilers are about to win game 5 in Detroit and the series as well. Even if the Wings find a way to win game 6, there's no way they can keep up with this team in a 7th game. Watching this series was like watching the Red Wings play a younger, faster version of themselves, and Edmonton is a hell of a lot better than I originally gave them credit for.

Good luck the rest of the way.

Joke's getting old Marc I get it. The bottom line is both our teams and the Devils looked bad but it's a long series not won in the first game. In fact, the Avs are 7-8 in playoff series when they lose game one. And losing game one as the underdog on the road is less of a shock with more room to win due to the fact that they are heading home soon as well. Losing game one at home like the Sens is much more of a troublesome stat. The goal of the away team, lower seed, is to steal one of the first two games on the road to take control of home ice advantage.

The goalie is making the stops he has to, but it's really the team in front of him. The ducks are playing hard, smart, fast and loose. While the Avs can't get a fucking puck on the net! The Avs managed a mere 10 shots through two periods!! And I could have stopped all of them as they were awful angle shots or weak wristers from way outside of the slot. The Avs have to hold serve now and win the next two at home even though they haven't even scored in two fucking games. Time to rebound mother fuckers!

The playoffs have been going on for nearly a month. Boston hasn't realistically been in it since January, since they finished last in the Northeast Division. People have been saying that trading Joe Thornton was one of the bonehead moves of the year (Not that I necessarily agree with that).

This season was really unlike any other for the Devils, I'm proud of what they accomplished. They started out terrible and finished as one of the hottest teams in the league, it seemed like they weren't going to make the playoffs and they wound up winning the division. Sadly the hockey season is over, it's time for me to dedicate my postings now to the Yankees thread. See ya in '06-'07.

Brett, I love you, but FUCK THE DEVILS, dude.

Once the Rangers got eliminated I started pullin' for either Dallas or Calgary. It turns out that my luck with whomever I choose to root for in the NHL is much like my luck in the NFL. Alas, they're both gone now so I'm rootin' for the Oilers, but I don't want to say that all that loud 'cause I don't want to ruin it.

The Oilers leave everything out on the ice. I just hope they don't start pooping out spleens and livers from sheer exertion and exhaustion.

Or are you just judging teams by their final records? Because if you followed the league at all you'd realize that Edmonton played in what proved to be one hell of a tough division, if not the toughest during your precious regular season.

Next, your favorite in the West, if not the whole NHL, played in one of the weakest overall divisions and possibly over the last few decades (definitely the weakest in years). Detroit and Nashville got almost half it's points due to it weak ass division thanks to the shitty new unbalanced schedules that have teams playing the majority of games in division. So records cannot be judged on there own merits as they were before the unbalanced schedules.

Finally, Edmonton was a playoff team all year regardless of the reasons listed above before they made a trade to upgrade its weakest position, Goalie! Roloson is one hell of an upgrade, one that also comes proven along with great playoff experience. This team would have been tough without him, but became a long run threat for the cup once they acquired him.

*If you watched hockey you'd realize at least some of this and wouldn't be so myopic in your argument. I'm not trying to rip you here, but it does tick me off how you stated they did nothing all regular season. I'm no Edmonton fan, yet you seemed to piss me off more than the actual fans.

I want to see Buffalo and Edmonton in the finals, but expect Buffalo and the Ducks. Buffalo just plays amazingly hard and I think Ward will crack under their speed and attack. He just doesn't matchup well with those qualities. As for Edmonton, sure they have an amazing crowd (probably the most amazing I've seen in years if not ever in any sport), awesome work ethic and great team speed, but the Ducks were just plain unbeatable against the Avs. I know, I watched every single minute of those games. They hit hard, skate fast and smooth, pass crisply, control the puck amazingly, are huge with great hands, have a smoking hot goalie, and play incredible situational hockey!! It almost seems impossible to beat this team of late, but stranger things have happened in the Stanley Cup playoffs before.

One thing is for sure, both matchups should be fucking awesome and I'll be watching regardless that my Avs are golfing with the Devil.

I actually heard a Detroit fan call up a Buffalo sports show and blame the fact that his team isn't in it on the new CBA. Did he forget the whole winning the President's Trophy thing? Besides, it's not like Detroit didn't choke in the past.

Yet I'm simply amazed at how much smarter and more physical the Oilers have been in front of the nets. It's the difference in a great Bryz or the return of the shitty version from the Olympics. Buffalo is fucked in a major major way because they're missing their number 1 defenseman on the team for the playoffs and another 2 of their top six defenseman, although they could possibly get one of those back soon. Maybe Ronny was right and we are cursed.

surprisingly Ive lost a lot of interest because I like all 3 of the remaining teams a lot. I saw the end of game 6 and thought it was exciting but Id like to get to the finals already. I think Edmonton is really going to have a tough time regardless of who they play because of how much time they have been off.
Well, it was a hell of a ride....Sabres just ran out of magic.

Is anyone going to actually be rooting for Carolina? I won't be. Even though I don't really hate them either.

For an Islander fan who appreciated both Laviolette and Peca its a bit tough to pick who to root for. I think Carolina has the advatage for game 1 based on momentum alone. I also like Staal a whole lot but hes got a long career ahead of him. I would not mind seeing Carolina win.

Crap. I wanted Buffalo to win. Now I don't know who to root for. I don't hate or
like either team. Guess I'll just watch game 1 and see which team irritates me
less.
This may be a little personal, but whatever. My ex-girlfriend just messaged me to rub salt in the wound.

And she wonders why we broke up. Why the hell would somebody do that?

So who's gonna win this thing? I'm well past the point of thinking Edmonton is just lucky to get this far, but Carolina is an awfully balanced team as well.

I'm picking Carolina in 7, although I won't be shocked if the Oilers take the Cup.

you know i totally forgot this thing was still going, you hardly hear anything about it, even when you watch sportscenter

cant say i know enough to make an honest prediction but i'm gonna have to go pro USA on this one and say carolina wins it all

i forget where i saw it but while watching tv today, someone made the observation that it was the hurricanes vs the oilers, which is ironic because of last year with all the hurricanes and oil prices going crazy

3-1 Oilers, they are clicking on all points, especially their best, the penalty kill.

FUCK REDNECK HOCKEY!

Seriously, the Canes could barely hold off the Sabres, who were down to 2 of their starting 6 defenseman. Pronger's going to tear them apart.

SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORES!!!

I'm not really rooting for the Canes, but fuck what a comeback. 4-3

What happened with Roloson? Are the Canes just going to injure their opponents until they win?

Rolo is out for the remainder and I hate to say it Manny but I think you guys are fucked. They got him for reasons you saw late in the game and that Brindy goal was a fucking joke! Sorry, I don't hate either team but it looks like the Northwest Division of the Western Conference will be the bridesmaid once again. Rolo was a very hot goalie who shut down way better offenses then Carolina to get to the Cup Finals, but Conklin is just plain bad. Sure he's capable of a good game or two bc he is a fucking pro player, but the Oilers will have to change their whole game plan and strategy in front of him and that won't fare well. This series is going to get much more physical if the Oilers are to even have a shot. If anyone can make that happen, the Oilers sure are a top pick. We'll see, but now I have to pick the Canes in 5. However, the injury has not been discussed yet for sure. Craig M stated he's out and that's it, yet it may be a classic hockey ploy as it wouldn't be the first complete lie told in the Stanley Cup playoffs. God I hope this is the case bc it would fucking rule and Craig would climb up my list of awesome coaches for a move so bold.
If that happens, it will be really sort of weird. There seem to have been this year, more than other years, a lot of things that happened just according to chance for the canes. Not that they're not good - but luck always helps.

that was one HELL of a game 1!!
It really really sucks that Roloson got injured, he was on the top of his game. Hopefully Conklin will fill in nicely, the playoffs have been all about the young goalies shining under pressure.
The game all around was incredibly exciting, can't wait for game 2.

It's over Johnny.....eh I mean Manny.

Perhaps the Edmonton fans can get this team to go nuts in game three. The fans there are some of the craziest, loudest, nuttiest fucks around.
