View Full Version : New Jersey and Bruce Springsteen's dong

Seriously, Garden Staters, get off it.

I conducted an informal poll about how different people refer to the man's concerts at a party recently- nearly without fail, everyone not from NJ said they are going to 'a Springsteen concert' while all the Jerseyites said they were 'going to see Bruce' as if they were on a first name basis with the man and were going to his barbeque.

I also recently attended a wedding in the Garden State, and my eyes nearly rolled out of my head when the band announced the couple chose as their song, 'a little ditty from Bruce'. I hear that, I look around for the man.

Seriously people, get off his nutsack. You need a new hero- Christ, I bet half you fuckers don't even know Thomas Edison, the man who invented everything but fire and the wheel (and even that's up for debate) did his lifelong work in your state.

Solid point. I guess if an entire state feels they must pick a dick to slurp from, Bruce Springsteen isn't the worst option.

OK this seems like an apropriate thread for this (though it probably isn't)

I HATE BON JOVI!

Mostly because my whore ex girlfriend is from Sayreville and that was all she ever talked about. Everyone from that town thinks they are better because he grew up there. OF COURSE he was smarter than anyone else there because HE MOVED OUT. AHHHH Now I feel better.

Born and Bread in New Jersey and I don't presonally like Springsteen. I don't understand why people idolize anyone just because of where they are from, but no reason to dislike him just of where he is from or because his fans piss you off. (kinda contradicts my Bon Jovi thing but..whatever) There are so many other reasons to not like someone why limit yourself.

He also wrote a song for the Ramones but they didn't use it; so the wisps of fate have us with a Springsteen version of 'Hungry Heart'.

I live 5 mins from AP; and it get's bad. When he plays here, people come from all over the world. I wish that were an exaggeration but I worked the rehearsal shows in AP for the tour he is doing now, and there were people from Australia, all parts of Europe, all flying in to see this, simply coz they lucked out and got tix to see BS in AP. You hear all these unfamiliar foreign languages, and they are naively walking through one of the most dangerous parts of one of the dangerous towns in NJ.

After the show they line up, and it's common knowledge the guy doesnt stop and get out to sign and take pics, but there they are, chasing the car down the street as the locals watch and sigh.

Three shooting in the last two weeks; one in the schoolyard I once visited as a student teacher. Greetings from Asbury Park! aka Beirut-on-the-Atlantic.

Oh, while I can do/do without Bruce, I lucked out and got a nice photo of Asbury Park this last 4th of July, and on a lark sent it to backstreets, the BS official fan site. If you go to the front/news page and scroll about three-quarters of the way down, there's a shot of Fireworks that I took.

http://www.backstreets.com/news.html

Also took the pic used by The Saint, a great AP club for live, original music. Hey, they let me play, so they can't be that bad, or...

pic is here, I'm clueless on hyperlinking...

http://www.thesaintnj.com/indexsaint.html

OK, not so clueless

People who aren't from Jersey don't really get the whole Bruce "thing".

As for the first-name basis, that's really stupid. I've heard a lot of artists referred to by their first name, and when it comes to Jersey, all you need to do is mention "Bruce" - no last name necessary. It's the same as someone saying "Frank", "Dean", "Sammy", "Mick", etc. etc.

The reason WHY New Jersey is so on Bruce is because Bruce is so on Jersey. He's written about the state in a ton of his songs and he still does those little gigs in bars on the shore, which is something you don't see from a lot of rock performers. He has a deep tie to the community and his fans (not New Jerseysans on a whole, but his fans that live and are from Jersey - big difference) love him for that.

What other act today can sell out 10 shows in a row at Giants Stadium?
I still think our New Jersey state flag should just be an outline of Jersey with a huge picture of Danny DeVito's head in the middle.

Patches...why be hatin' on Bruce???

He was one of the, if not THE most popular singer/songwriter from NJ in the last 50 years. Yes I know Bon Jovi but Bon Jovi getting into the Rock and Roll hall of fame might prove to be a little difficult. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band was a no brainer. Just because people talk about him as if they know him, well...that is pretty much how DJ's/VJ's and the media referred to him for many year so blame goes all around. But let's face it...you say you are gonna see Bruce in concert, everyone know who you are talking about.

And besides, unlike other people Springsteen was not only proud to be from here but kept his home and resides here as much as possible, raising his kids here ect.

Haven't you ever talked about a sports team and refered to them in a manner which it seems like you were part owner of the team. I know I have. Being a fan gives you the sense of being connected to that person/band/team.

Just lighten up a TAD about it.....not much...just a tad.

I am lightened up, though I do realize most people that say that aren't. I only started this thread to gauge reactions, make fun of New Jersey, and use the word 'dong'.
