Just home from the Dolls show tonight at the 9:30 club and they were GREAT even though half the band members are dead. David Jo and Sylvain Sylvain were SO good, a night not to be forgotten. Though they didn't play Chatterbox or Bad Detective, they killed with Trash and Private World! Maybe I should have posted this in the Old School thread? Does anyone remember the Dolls?

<p>Cherrynoid & I saw them in Baltimore at the WHFS Festival thing. They were great live. <br />But David Johanson makes Keith Richards look like Charles Atlas. </p><p><img height="320" src="http://www.bobgruen.com/files/nydolls/files/R.284%20DAVID%20&%20JOHNNY%20-%20LIVE.gif" width="253" border="0" /></p>

<p>Does David Johanson still look like Stephen King these days?</p><p>And for anyone that doubts that comparison, check out David Jo when he guested on "Oz"...</p><p>No, really, go check it out...I can't find a photo, you lazy pricks.</p>

<p>He looks NOTHING like King now.. </p><p>In Baltimore (the worst city in America) He looked exactly like Axl Rose from the Welcome to the Jungle video (teased hair)--- <img height="55" src="http://www.mygnr.com/news/pics/2002/MTV/1988_MTV_AXL_HAIR_WELCOME.jpg" width="176" border="0" /></p><p>- He was so thin you could count ribs from the nosebleed section. You could almost see the blood slowly flowing thru his arms from the other end of the stadium. </p><p>But damn, they rocked. Great rockstar/entertainer. Would have loved to have seen em at 9:30.</p><p>Sold out? how was the crowd? </p><a href="http://www.live365.com/stations/ufo_radio?play/"><img src="http://www.thecosmiccircus.com/sigpics/headline.jpg" border="0" /></a>

What kind of music is this stuff? I've heard the name before but have no idea what they are. Rock? Punk? Ska? Hair Rock? Any kind of Metal? World Music? I really have no idea. From the looks of them...... well, let's hear what they are 1st before I go off on them.

<p>"Glam punk?" They're considered one of the first punk bands...really were the bridge between a band like T. Rex and the Ramones.</p><p>I think they're reunited at this point because of celebrity superfan Morrissey.</p>

If that sounds "weak," why even bother? They'll sound probably exactly like you're thinking. Save yourself the time.

Because I've been wrong, and I like stuff that isn't exactly "strong" in the past. Plus, it'll be good to have an actual opinion about them if someone brings them up in the future.

I'd recommend tracking down the songs "Personality Crisis," "Human Being," or "Who are the Mystery Girls." If you don't dig those, then you wouldn't like the Dolls. And if you don't dig the Dolls, don't waste your time on other stellar acts like the Stooges, Dictators, Richard Hell or the Sex Pistols either.

If you are a fan of the gitbox, you should probably check them out. Johnny Thunders was something of a legend on the 6-string.

<p>Just heard Personality Crisis.</p><p>Oooof.</p><p>Well, "Who are the Mystery Girls?" is a lot better. Damn, very thin recording. I'll have to get more of it and listen to whole albums.</p><p>So what do you tell people this stuff is? Punky Rock? </p><p>Sorry, 3rd edit. Too Much Too Soon has potential. Whatever album that 1st song I heard was from will have to take a back seat. Liking "Babylon" a little more than I thought.</p><p>Also, very considerate of them not to write a song over 3:30.</p><p><img src="http://scripts.cgispy.com/image.cgi?u=njdmmoe" border="0" /> </p><p><a href="http://www.unhallowed.com/">www.unhallowed.com</a> <a href="http://thebigsexxxy.blogspot.com/">One Big SeXXXy Blog</a></p>

Yeah, that's their best known song but it's not one of my favorite's either.
Private World is good, Trash and Chatterbox are too. Some of Johnny Thunders' solo stuff is great as well, like Pirate Love.
