I was a huge fan of Jennings... I remember watching obsessively when Challenger blew...But as for dying too young... it was progressive lung cancer from smoking...

Yeah... it goes to show that even having the most money and the best care and attention sometimes isn't good enough. He was 67, which isn't exactly YOUNG, but he was still at the top of his reporting game, and still too early.

his chances weren't good when the cancer was announced. It's sad. Diane
Sawyer is barely holding it together on ABC.

I remember back when the war in Yugoslavia was really raging, Jennings was there interviewing a particularly bad leader (I can't remember who). The bad guy was trying to evaid accusations of attrocities and was abviously lying. Jenning said either "you're full of shit" or "that's bullshit" (one of those two lines) to the guy. He really tore into him. It was a great moment. Also, the world didn't freak out because someone said a bad word on the air.

Radio Dentist said he was done as soon as it was announced... he had advanced, inoperable lung cancer.  You usually don't have a miracle rebound from that.

I hope so too. Generally, this is the very best web board I've seen. I bet once Ron and Fez return to the air (which I guess is in 15.5 hours, for the very first XM AFRO show!) people will have more positive things to say.We've seen the end of an era. I think people just get all emotional with news people because they feel they've been sharing their lives with these anchors for years.  Nothing could be further from the truth, but I think that's what they are feeling and thinking.  Peter Jennings wouldn't have pissed in your mouth if you teeth were on fire out in the streets, but hey, he shouldn't have to care about us all.Too bad he died.  He was very good at keeping his condition a guarded secret.  I didn't hear anything about it until his death, other than him leaving for health reasons months ago.

anchor and senior editor of World News Tonight. He personally approved
every story on WNT, and he interviewed every correspondent before the
show. He was on the air for 60 hours the week of 9/11.Do you
honestly believe he just strolled in for a half hour to read off a
telemprompter and then left? Do you have even the slightest idea how TV
News works?
