Ron was talking about how you can't get a good Phily cheese steak outside of Philadelphia last week. This has been on my mind for a while. I'm going to be going to phily soon so I wanted to ask everyone:Where is the best Cheese Steak in Philadelphia?Where is the best Cheese Steak in the DC Area? I know it's not going to compare, but who does the best job in DC? "The Broiler" on Columbia Pike, one block off of Glebe, in Arlington. Right between the Wendy's and Burger King. Real hole in the wall dive, but excellent, excellent cheese steaks.

go to shoprite and by steakums. They may not taste quite as good, but are still sufficient and alot cheaper

also mentioned Sam's Steaks on South street.I ate 7 in an hour to try
to win a contest...it was literally the white lided bowl of failure
because I was allowed to go to the bathroom ,but an officiating
employee had to accompany me in the bathroom so I didn't puke or the
contest for me was over.  I finally puked.DOH...tasted great going
down,but not coming back up.Mistake #1 Coffee didn't work that day to
purge my system.#2 I ate antacids before contest,which was dumb thing
for steaks(would have been fine if it was the very sweet cherry pie at
another contest).But the combination didn't work.#3 don't try to be a
world class eater because a little woman from the midwest or a Japanese
marvel can kick your ass.BOW LOW to the MASTER.

Steak because I am so hooked on the Roast Pork. I can't help it. I
can't get past it. I swerved once for the Chicken Cutlet which was equally orgasmic. I find them both overrated and they offer cheese whiz on your steak.  Awful.Amen! Same with Provolone on a Cheese Steak. You should only ever have American on your Cheese Steak. WHITE American. Thank you.

I want to save you from eating at Pat's if you are limited to only
trying a Philly Cheese Steak -one or two shots. Generic...there I said
it. I don't know about their pizza or subs,but I was led to believe
Pat's(chain) were so great and what a disappointment.I faked it and had
to tell my friends MMMMM oh thanks for turning me on to this place...(I
hate to lie to save their feelings). Have a Sub/Hoagie ,a huge pretzel
with or without mustard,a cheese steak,some Chinese food...and try
everything in sight.Taste is personal,so hopefully you find something
you like.

The advantage to the South st steak houses is there's a little people
watching for that little isolated strip.There's a sub shop close to the
Pontiac Grill(rock club),at about 2nd or 3rd and South that's just
fine.I don't go to Philly much anymore,but Maui was a club I visited on
the waterfront,close to the bridge.There's a few small rock clubs the
Khyber on 3rd or 2nd st(north of South st.).There's a bigger rock club
2 miles away,and I don't know the food there,but the place held almost
1,000 people,so I saw Robert Plant there.I guess there are places on
the waterfront to go just for hanging out,but I always go at night,and
hate to bring my own car...too paranoid,high crime.The loud dance
club,big place is a few blocks from that bigger club 2 miles from South
St.    All in all I don't go to Philly on a whim.There
has to be some big attraction making the 40-50 min drive
worthwhile...and that's at night with NO TRAFFIC up I-95.I never go
alone.

I've definitely driven from NY to Philly just to get a cheese steak and a beer a few times.  I've had pats, genos, and tony lukes.  I like the geno's with onions and mushrooms, provolone, and ketchup.  I'm sure there are equally good places in NY to get a cheesesteak, but what fun is that.

Matty's perfect steak: REAL cheese (don't care if it's american, mozz, or prov), ketchup, hotsauce, onions, lettuce. Now I'm starving. I don't like cheez whiz because it just tastes so fucking artificial.  I know when you're eating a cheesesteak, you're not concerned about your health, but the taste of fake cheese just grosses me out.

<a href="http://www.tonylukes.com/" target="_blank">Tony Luke's</a> is responding to this Geno's thing:The response to our comments on the "English only" ordering policy at Geno's Steaks have been wildly misquoted and completely misconstrued. This is not a retraction of our original statements!   We're a sandwich shop. WE HAVE NO POSITION on government immigration policy!   The Truth:   1 - Tony Luke Jr. does not support any foreigners who come to this country illegally   2 - Tony Luke Jr. believes all foreigners who come to this country to live should learn to speak English.   3- Tony Luke Jr. never mentioned Mexicans or any ethnic group in any statements.   4 - Tony Luke Jr. said the sign at Geno's is in poor taste.   5 - Tony Luke Jr. said the sign makes Philadelphia look bad, particularly in view of our Aggressive efforts to become a world -class international tourist destination and the announced plans to bid for the 2016 Olympics.   6 - The sign takes too hard a line, which Tony Luke Jr. is very sensitive to, since his family members were often mistreated when they first came to this country because of their language and customs.   7 - The sign makes foreign visitors who did not speak fluent English uncomfortable and unwelcome. That's the wrong message!   8 - It has always been the policy of Tony Luke’s Old Philly Style Sandwiches to treat all of our customers with Patience, Dignity and Respect no matter what Race, Color, Creed or language they speak.   9 Our policy always has been and always will be "ALL ARE WELCOME "   - Tony Luke, Jr.I gotta get to Philly and start eating all these sandwiches!!!!

Chubby's is my favorite (across the street from DelAssandro's) I like Pat's too.. i know it is not the best, but i enjoy it... Tony Luke's is good too, there is actually one in NYC (rightbehind Port authority)

1) Any Cheese except Swiss or Blue Cheese is good on a Cheese Steak2) Mushrooms Are Fucking Disgusting on a Cheese Steak.3) I have been to both Pat's and Geno's and I prefer Abner'sIf you are ever at Rutgers, go to one of the "Grease Trucks" There is a sandwich that is a Cheese Steak with other shit thrown in...fucking awesome! Especially if you are Drunk! You can almost hear your arteries harden.On a totally random tangent about Rutgers....there was a student who, for his senior thesis in political science studied the area of New Jersey and postulated that you could not get a good cheese steak north of New Brunswick and could not get a good bagle south of New Brunswick, and traced voting trends based on that premise. And was pretty accurate.

I was NOT impressed by crab fries.  Sorry.  the "fries" itself were just horrific, so the Old Bay seasoning didn't do anything for me. I also had a roast pork sandwich and it tastes like wet paper towels.

dont think i am nuts but this weekend my chick and i are driving down to philly for the night. just for shits and giggles and for cheesesteaks. the best western at the center allows dogs so my pup is coming with us. i am leaving saturday afternoon get there whenever and have dinner someplace (any suggestions?). Sunday walk around a little bit then hit a cheesesteak place, maybe geno's given the "no english no service" thing going on right now.

like i said its just for fun. this is more than likely the last weekend before wedding plans need to get more attention so why now? if anyone has a suggestion as to what to do for dinner, etc please PM me with them.

I will not lie, i got the idea for this when ron mentioned cheesesteak sandwhiches. Now i'm starvin.

Bah, you guys are just used to old school cheese (which is great btw).  The ingredients that they are far less nasty than the ingredients that are already in cheese. Beginning with the basics, <a target="_top" href="http://www.drymilk.com/ingredients/cheese/inchedef.html">cheese</a>

im a fan of both geno's and pat's but they are a lil farther than my
new favorite STEVE'S PRINCE OF STEAKS, i know of 2 locations, 1 on
Bustleton Ave in the Northeast, and 1 on Comly and the BLVD in far

i just got back from Philly.  i had a cheese steak sandwich with real american cheese with onions.  the best.  the fries werent great but the sandwich was.  Holy shit what rought service.  i asked for a bad to hold my stuff in and the chick gave me a look of death.  how else am i to hold 2 heroes 2 fries and 2 sodas?

Don't eat cheesesteaks. Never tried one. Just doesn't look appetizing to me....And I love unhealthy food. I think it's the cheese. I'm not a huge fan of too much cheese on anything unless its like Mac and Cheese or pizza or french onion soup or something like that. Old Bay I don't mind, but it's certainly not something I seek out.
