none of those. It depends what you want the beach for. If you want
to surf, you probably want manasquan inlet or some non populated beach
with a little jetty.

If you want to swim and not have bad crowds, rent a place in one of the little communities, or lavalette doesnt get too bad.

Belmar, Seaside are fuckin zoos. Unless you want to go just to hit bars and meet people, then dont go to these.

If
you are looking for privacy for swimming or a quiet spot to surf, be
careful cause locals know them and dont always like you finding
them

When I was a kid my family used to rent a house
in Lavallette. Those were the best vacations I remember. It was far
enough away from Seaside so that it was nice and quiet, uncrowded, and
the beaches were nice. Some days we would spend half the day at the bay
on one side, and the other half on the ocean side. We were in walking
distance from the Crab's Claw, a nice little restaurant. And we were
close enough to Seaside that it was a quick drive to the boardwalk and
Water Works. And there was an incredibly nice minature golf course I
think right across the street from Water Works, or pretty close.
Fucking awesome.

These days I'd prefer Wildwood, but back then I loved Lavallette.
crabs claw is a dominant seafood place. im within a decent walkin
distance to lavalette, and the quiet is the best part. Plus the local
lifeguards flag up the beach nice, so you always know whats goin on.
The golf course is right down the road, i forget the name but its a
pirate theamed type thing. I believe it has 2 sides of 18 as well. And
I could go to waterworks and do nothing but ride that straight drop
slide for 3 straight hours

and if you want to just lay out and look at people, sandy hook. Its optional nude and alot of women walk around naked

=

Yes, but as a friendly reminder to those who havent been there, its not optional nude on the entire island, just the 'G' [Gunnison] Beach area; which is the beach next to the beach I took sophomores out to do water chemistry tests when I taught there, and let them run around for a while. Clothes on, of course. Some of the peeps on the nude beach would walk by, outside the 'nude' area', we were all so used to it, we didnt even notice them.

And wow you realize what a nude beach really looks like. Could be the worst letdown/misconception ever. I'll just say how good a person looks nude and a person's desire for nude beaches have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

=

Blemar is town next to me, fantastic when not crowded, which is about 3am - 8am these days. The mayor of Blemar, Ken Pringle, is trying to make Blemar more 'expensive house' town then 'party beach town'

Once had a Blemar Playland; now on the beachfront the number of arcades = zero

=

Roger that Snoogs on the Crab's Claw in Lavalette, there's some kick ass places to eat down here, too many to list

=

Asbury Park has, physically, one of the nicest beaches around, and people are there in droves compared to previous summers; the Asbury Partner's [group that bought up all the old abandoned buildings and lots] have started construction, so 'Beirut-on-the-Atlantic' may be on the comeback envisioned since the late 60s; but there are major roadblocks, the town concil and police force are a long time problem. People wont return to AP until they feel safe in AP, and after Camden, I think it's number 2 for crime in NJ.

Wow too long. Again.

I'm in Blemar daily, AP about he same. Running boards or Riding bike. I love the beaches, but for lying on a towel in sand, I'm with DMMoe. Look for me and say 'Hi!' or 'Your Mom's Box!'

So much of this, especially the islands like LBI, etc. are one good hurricane away from being wiped out. It's not a probability; it's a certainty. Just a metter of when. We have been Extrememly, extrememly lucky here at the NJ shore. I left my house in Spring Lake when we lived there and returned a few hours later to look for the boardwalk, most of which had utterly disappered, leaving a mile-long row of Cement Pilings. A mile of boardwalk was gone. Seeya.

Hbox, Lavallette is very nice, I like that place too and Point Pleasant in the bay area is a nice place to relax.

My favorite though is the Sea Isle-Avalon area in South Jersey. Quiet enough to relax and great bars/restaurants to have fun - including my favorite, The Dead Dog Saloon. Good fishing in the bays as well.
