I never watch the weather channel like i used to anymore. I saw sunday morning that cancun should have been hit that night but havnt heard about it since. Now i see Emily is on its way to Texas and getting stronger. Why its taking 3 days to get from Cancun to Texas is beyond me, but so be it.

From Weather.com

Forecasts call for Emily to become a major hurricane (winds greater than 110 mph) before it makes landfall. It still looks as if the eye of Emily will crash ashore in northeast Mexico south of Brownsville, Texas, shortly after midnight.

I dont really love that site so if you know a better one..you know, post it.

Well what you all do not realize is that when the EYE starts to hit land the storm weakens. I am not surprised it hit Catagory 5 as it passed thru the gulf. It is the gulf's warm waters that adds to the storms power. They said this is the 3rd largest storm in recorded history. The 4th largest...*taa daa*....Katrina.

Every storm that passed thru the gulf will be no less then a catagory 3. That area is like a feeding ground for hurricanes.

I just hope this one does not do nearly as much damage as katrina. I hope everyone gets out in time.

Worst case scenerio is that it takes a sudden turn north to LA and New Orleans. Now THAT would be fucked up!

The waves and winds were really picking up here today, and we've had feeder bands sweeping through most of the day... one around 4pm knocked out power in our building... but it also goes out if a duck farts while flying by, so don't read too much into that. The gusts were much higher than we ever expected to get, which let us know just how big and strong this thing is, and was my first clue that it might be making a more NW turn.

Traffic headed east is getting bad as people search for hotel rooms or a place to stay, which was already impossible around here since Katrina. People are having to go as far as Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee and beyond to find space, and couple the extra traffic with the locals scrambling to fill up before the expected price hike, and we're already back to waiting in line, stations along the interstate running out of gas, and tempers flaring.

I can't fucking wait until winter.

First, the flood of evacuees to Houston from Katrina. I was visiting my dad over Labor Day and we were making little toiletry bags and everything we could do. Dallas, where I live, has also been inundated with evacuees and of course we're more than happy to have them here, but there are also the bad stories. Like someone's distant relative they let stay in their house molested their 13 year old kid. There are hundreds, maybe more sex offenders that are unaccounted for.

Now this, my dad was going to leave Houston Thursday night but because of the traffic he's just going to try and ride it out. I'm so worried, more about wind/tree damage than flooding, but if Houston gets 30 inches of rain like it did with Tropical Storm Allison, they're screwed. My friend was trying to drive up to stay with me also but it's a 20-24 hour trip from Houston to Dallas instead of FOUR HOURS! I can't call her phone and she sent me one text message last night saying she was on the side of the road and I haven't heard from her since. I feel so helpless.

According to Xinhua, the typhoon packed winds up to 198 km/h (125mph), making it comparable with the 193km/h (120mph) gusts recorded when Hurricane Rita hit the Texas-Louisiana coastline over the weekend.

Experts say that Damrey will still be generating heavy winds when it makes landfall in Vietnam early on Tuesday morning.
