Chiefs fan...hopefully the additons of Surtain and Bell can improve our defense.  Carlos Hall should help on the D-Line and D. Johson they drafted is going to be really good.  offense is getting old so probably 2 more years and they are going to be in rebuild status there.  AFC is so much stronger.

Barring injury, I hope the Chargers are at least talking to other teams about trading Rivers and or Brees pending on how he performs this year (I'm sure he'll do well).  Hence the Bolts could really get a lot for Rivers from the Bears, probably some help on D, possibly a receiver, and a first rounder (again in case you didn't remember the two we got from the Giants).  This whole thing already worked out for the Bolts, and could possibly get better.  They simply can't afford to pay both Brees and Rivers, with the likes of Gates yet to be signed for a multi-year deal.  Gates is drastically underpaid at $380k for 2005, and since they can't agree to terms yet, is unprotected going into 2006.  The Bolts will be able to match any offer, but it would be wise to get the deal done during this year, as long as he is still up to form.

The thing is though, what happens if they deal Phillip "I Never Beat Maryland" Rivers, and Drew Brees turns back into a pumpkin?If I were them, I'd deal Brees and keep Phillip "I Never Beat Maryland" Rivers...he's got a bigger arm and bigger upside...they have to justify using the 2 pick on him...on the other hand, they also have to justify the fact that they dealt Mike Vick for Drew Brees and LaDainian Tomlinson...I guess its a lose/lose situation...

I'm surprised they didn't move Brees in the off season.  As many picks as the Bolts had (you know, the entire Giants draft) I bet if this draft was more talent-packed, Brees would have been part of a draft-day trade.  But if they move Rivers & Drew does resume sucking, they'll be the laughing stock of the lague (again)...for which reason I can't possibly see them moving Rivers.

the Chargers defense isn't bad.  its actually pretty good.  they gave up 19.6 pts a game, which puts them at #11.  and a bunch of that scoring came when the team was already up big points and gave up late TDs.  I think the thing they miss the most is a real WR.  I see the offense taking a step back this year and therefore the whole team will.

I believe Brees is a FA after this year, which means the situation will probably resolve itself...If this were baseball i'd deal him, but I would say he has no market value or demand because everyone is scared he is going to turn back into what he was...You really can't blame the Chargers....they were completely justified when they drafted Phil "I Never Beat Maryland" Rivers, how were they supposed to know Brees would turn into a good QB?Part of this is on Phil "I Never Beat Maryland" Rivers too....he held out so long last year during camp  that Brees was able to entrench himself at QB by default...of all the position players who hold out in Camp, QBs makes the least sense because they have the most to learn....holding out singlehandedly ruined Heath Shuler's career....

They have the most dangerous receiving corpsmaybe in the NFC, but I'd take Harrison/Wayne/anybody over them.  They have the potential to be a great threesome, but M Williams will need time and Rogers has to last more then 2 games.

Leaf.  Trading him would have been a huge mistake.  They made the best move possible by making Brees the one year deal and this way they can let it play out on the field.  And even if Brees does stumble, he's at least a middle of the road QB on a yearly basis.  You all judge him on his first two years in the league after being in at Perdue, and dealing with major coaching changes at SD.  Marty was in his third year in 2004 with the bolts, and made some great adjustments to fit the team and more so his QB.  The adjustments were key and I doubt very much that with LT, Gates, and Brees on O the bolts will be a joke.  Not to mention a great D, way fucking better than the Bengals!  But that's another post.

JETS!  Wait, do you really want to compare the D of the Chargers and the Bengals?  That's one of the funniest things I've heard in this thread.  Do some research before you talk.  I'd love to see the Bengals do something this year, but a lot rides on the shoulders of a QB that hasn't been proven, and has already started to run into injury problems.  I do love the Perry kid (RB), who may take Rudi's job before the end of the year.  But for you to make the statement about the chargers and your lack of excitement, followed up with your prediction for a 10-6 record for the Bengals cracked me up like you can't believe.  At least commit to your own lunacy!  10-6, watch out?  That probably won't even get them a playoff spot in the AFC.  They'll probably finish in third place this year....in their division.Tampa drafted a decent back, great.  Now they just need 10 more fucking players on that side of the ball.  The Bucs were a mess last year, and their D is slowing starting to fall apart.  It surely isn't what it was.  As for the Jets, they've made some nice moves.  Coles back for Chad, Blaylock as a change of pace back for Martin, a much needed change at Offensive Cordinator, and Law.  Yet they still need more DBs as their pass coverage is suspect, but Henderson is an amazing D Cord, and I expect him to create havoc out there.  But can Chad hit his mark this year?  Will Martin start to slow down?  Will Jolley be worth the price?  (I doubt that last one)

I expect more from you bro.  That's just stupid.  He was the second rated passer of last year, comeback player of the year, and is only going into his fourth season.  No market value?  What do you think Miami, TB, Dal, Cle, Ariz, Wash and Chicago would give for him right now?  I can promise you that he has plenty of trade value my friend.  In fact, they spoke to Marty on the NFL channel about some of the draft day offers they got for both QBs but the Bolts want to play this thing out.  After the Leaf bullshit, can you blame them?  But it sure as hell isn't bc there is no demad or value. My whole point was that it is a lose/lose situation because they HAVE to justify making Phil "I Never Beat Maryland" Rivers the 2 pick...which is why Brees will be gone...and I know Brees is only going into his 4th year, but still, the guy wasn't that good his first three years, and how can you base keeping him and dumping Rivers just for the fact that Brees had one good year?Let's say they deal Rivers and keep Brees, and Brees stinks again? How are they going to look in the eyes of their fans?And besides, who would want a guy that's only had one good year? If he's good again this year, I could understand wanting to take a shot on him, but there's too much of a chance right now of him turning back into a pumpkin to warrant too much of a large market for him...if he's good again this year, everyone will be all over him come FA time...

I don't hate him, nor do I think he's a bad player, I just wish everyone would allow him to round into a complete player before heaping the future of the NFL onto his shoulders.  And I wish Joe Theisman & a host of other announcers would remove his herp-ridden pecker from their mouths while they talk about him.  They make him out to be Dan Marino and Joe Montana rolled into one & he's really not even a polished passer at all yet.  At the moment, he's just one hell of a great runner with a great arm, yet he gets accolades from some people as if he's a 3-time league MVP.

Brandon will definately have a better team to help him out, but Tiki will do the brunt of the work.  However, even Tiki warned fantasy fans (joking around but serious) that with Brandon there now he'll have to score his tds from outside the twenty yard line.  I guess the plan is to give him his shot to replace or finally fill the void that Dayne was supposed to.  In TD leagues he might be a good sleeper pick.

Wait, do you really want to compare the D of the Chargers and the Bengals?  That's one of the funniest things I've heard in this thread.  Do some research before you talk.  I'd love to see the Bengals do something this year, but a lot rides on the shoulders of a QB that hasn't been proven, and has already started to run into injury problems.  I do love the Perry kid (RB), who may take Rudi's job before the end of the year.  But for you to make the statement about the chargers and your lack of excitement, followed up with your prediction for a 10-6 record for the Bengals cracked me up like you can't believe.  At least commit to your own lunacy!  10-6, watch out?  That probably won't even get them a playoff spot in the AFC.  They'll probably finish in third place this year....in their division.The only reason why 10-6 won't win the division is because of who else is in it.  And I wasn't comparing the defenses, but I will compare the offense favorably to the Bengals.  Palmer is better than Brees, and while LT is better than Rudi will get 1500 yrds and 15 tds this years.  The wideout advantage has to go to Cin.  There are three WRs in the NFL better than Johnson, Moss, TO, and Harrison.  That's it.And every fantasy mag that I have has the SD defense and the Cin Defense comparable.  I think you just like to talk smack.Tampa drafted a decent back, great.  Now they just need 10 more fucking players on that side of the ball.  The Bucs were a mess last year, and their D is slowing starting to fall apart.  It surely isn't what it was.  Tampa Bay also plays against a considerably weaker bunch of defenses this year.  Both their opponents rushing and passing yrds allowed per game are well above the average.  Don't count them out.As for the Jets, they've made some nice moves.  Coles back for Chad, Blaylock as a change of pace back for Martin, a much needed change at Offensive Cordinator, and Law.  Yet they still need more DBs as their pass coverage is suspect, but Henderson is an amazing D Cord, and I expect him to create havoc out there.  But can Chad hit his mark this year?  Will Martin start to slow down?  Will Jolley be worth the price?  (I doubt that last one)For Jolley they only gave up that heath kid, not a big loss.  Veteran TE for rookie TE.  And Blaylock is perfect for the Jets.  He's a speed guy while Martin is a "in your face, slashing kind of guy"  Let Martin run between the tackles and Blaylock take the sweeps

Talk to me when Palmer (who I actually like) makes the playoffs.  Not to mention the fact that Palmer might not finish the season either as he showed last year.  Of course he has better wideouts, but Drew still made it work.  Sure he does have Gates, LT and now a full year of McCardell.  But hey, Marty isn't known for opening it up.  Overall, you'll eat your words on Drew.

Nothing against Brees, I like brees.  I just don't see how they can keep Brees and Rivers.  If brees stumbles, you know they'll switch him.I just have a feeling about Cinci this year.  the only thing that'll hold them down is Pitt and possibly Baltimore ( though I'm not high on the ravens this year)

That's exactly why the charger leadership held on to both, in order to make a better choice in the end.  However, it also gives the Bolts a good insurance policy just in case.  In fact, does any other team have this right now?  It was the best move right now.  Next year the Bolts, barring injury, will get a lot for whoever they move.  I could think of worse situations, as I think AJ Smith has done one hell of a job with this team.  As for the D, Wade P. has been a great D coordinator every place he's been.  Only a decent head coach, but the fact that he's into his second year at SD bodes well for the D improving.  Although the division O is fucking unbelievable.

I just have a feeling about Cinci this year.  the only thing that'll hold them down is Pitt and possibly Baltimore ( though I'm not high on the ravens this year)DH for what it is worth Cinci faces on average the hardest pass defense (avg. rank of Pass D 8.9) and the 2nd hardest rushing defense in the NFL (avg. rang of Rush D is 12.3) which means a long year for Cinci.  And the problem is a lot of those teams don't score a lot of points so high scoring shoot-outs could be also out for Cinci.  Although their O is in a lot better shape then Pitt and Bmores Offense (if you can call them offenses)

great week 1 for me...the Chiefs kicked the Jets ass.  it was over on the third offenseive play.  Injuires to Roaf and Richardson could hurt the Chiefs though.  at least Surtain should be back next week and Warfield will help solidify the other corner spot when his suspension is up.  I guess Javon Walker should have held out.  sucks to come back and play just to tear your ACL.

With Clemson's heartbreaking loss to Miami last week, and todays
clusterfuck against BC, I couldn't be more excited about my
Steelers.  We play the Pats, and its going to be an awesome
fucking game.  Theres no way they dont show up two weeks in a
row.  This really is a litmus test for the Steelers; they haven't
really played a good team yet, and they play a bunch of really good
teams this year.  The schedule is actually pretty brutal. 
Pats, Chargers (assuming somehow Schottie stops being Schottie, and
Brees stops being Brees), Jacksonville, Cincy twice, Balitmore twice
(their offense totally blows, but it doesnt usually matter when they
play the Steelers), Indy, and a couple wild cards (Minnesota, GB and
Chi--I know they all suck, but they have the talent to upset some
people, especially late in the season) Basically,
this game is going to set the tone for the rest of the season. 
Will they be able to execute against real defenses?  Will the
defense continue to play well against good offenses?  Will I
actually get to watch sunday afternoon games in SC? I can't fucking wait to find out!  Giggity giggity goo!

SD is getting torched on third down bc they're afraid to touch Manning with or without the ball.  I didn't know QBs can wear the red practice jersey in a fucking game!  How many times will the refs take away a manning mistake with a fucking horrible call?  Oh and he should have two fucking picks for TDs in this game alone.  One was dropped by SD, the other was an awful fucking call.  I didn't know the NFL blows both Mannings.

I'm going to assume your joking.  While both teams are greatly
improved, there is no way you can make that prediction.  The Bucs,
maybe, because there are only a couple teams to beat in the NFC, and
weird shit can happen in the playoffs.  So, I can understand that. Now,
the Bengals?  Yeah, they have a good offense, but they havent
played good teams.  And dont tell me that Chicago is good. 
They have played Cleveland, Minny, and Chicago.  They play Houston
next, so they should be 4-0.  After that, they have two games wih
Pitt, two with B'more (Offense might suck, but the D is always superb),
Jacksonville and Indy.  They'll be lucky to make the playoffs in
the AFC, much less the super bowl.

And no, I'm not joking. I sincerely think Cincy has a chance at the big game this year. The defense is vastly improved, and in today's NFL anything can happen.

Head Coach Marvin Lewis and QB Carson Palmer have turned this franchise around, and I can honestly say that no team in the AFC exudes any kind of "unbeatable" mystique.

Listen, Cincy is good.  Don't get me wrong, they will have a
hand in who makes the playoffs/superbowl.  They will NOT play in
the superbowl.  They barely beat one of the
worst teams in the league this year.  Yeah, yeah, any given
Sunday, but not against the Texans.  The Bengals will probably
have 8-10 wins, and are a legitimate contender this year, and
especially in the next 3-5 years.  But the AFC is WAY too
competitive to put them anywhere past the wildcard at this point. 
Put them in the NFC, and thats a different story. 
 And the Giants are putting up huge numbers, but ask
the Colts about how far a powerful offense/questionable defense combo
will take you.  They havent played Philly or
Washington yet.  While Philly looks to be much worse off than last
year, they are still the team to beat, at least in that division. 
Honestly, they'll probably split the series w/ them just because Philly
wont score 35 points that many more times this season.And as
much as I hate to admit it, Washington is really good.  Their
defense is playing great.  Not as good as last year, but they are
going to be one of the best in the league.  It also looks like the
Offense is coming together.  Gibbs really understands how to use
Portis and Betts, something that Spurrier could never quite figure out
(I know Portis wasnt in Wash w/ Spurrier).

That division is a fucking mess!  I have to think the Bear's D or the Pack's O will eventually win this division.  I guess in reality, whichever team listed above can get the weak side of their game to a manageable level, they in fact should win the division.  So if the Pack can stabalize it's D or the Bear's can get the O going (which really comes down to Orton since Jones is churning of late), I think therein lies your division champ.  As for the Bolts being hitmen, easy.  Don't jinx them by wishing to hurt someone like TO, those things seem to come back to your team and the Bolts can't deal with losing LT.

And how cool is it that Bruschi is cleared already!  I love these type players, but will he make that much of an impact on the field?  I don't think so since he probably won't play much for weeks.  He looked extremely light, and can't be in good shape, let alone football or game shape.  I'm pulling for him and a complete recovery, but thinking he'll make a huge "on-field" impact by week 8 is nuts.  He already has been involved on the sidelines, so this won't be a change.  I hope I'm wrong on this one, but I doubt it and am impressed by this guy nonetheless.

Browns still should have won and Charlie played great hitting Benson for 2 TDs.  The coaches blew this game at the end.  If the Jag offs lost this would have been a perfect fucking week for the Chargers.Still, it was one hell of a week.  Not only did the Bengals finally take out Pitt dropping them one game behind the Chargers, but the Chiefs tightened the AFC West race with a huge win.  The win not only brings the Chiefs within one game of the lead, but did the same for SD.  Truthfully, the Bolts have a decent chance to win the division since they have the best division record currently and play both the Chiefs (at KC) and Broncos (home) still.  Denver does have the softest schedule of the three and a one game lead so it will be tough, but it did get a lot more interesting!  Five wins in a row, but they'll need at least 3 of the last 4 to even have a shot at the division.  Yet the wild card standings are amazingly tight as well.  Jacksonville is easily the worst team in the race, but they're schedule (overall and remaining) is a fucking joke!  They haven't played a team with a winning record since week # 6 (Pitt) and only have one left against Indy next week.  Quite possibly the easiest fucking schedule I've ever seen.  So at 9-3 they should be in which leaves Denver (9-3 and leads the AFC West), SD (8-4), KC (8-4) and Pitt (7-5) vying for the last two spots (AFC West crown and the other wild card spot).  While Jackonsville isn't a sure thing, it'd be a huge disaster if they don't make it.  Here's to hoping they do fall out of the race and some way, some how, the Chargers get into the dance again.<img src="http://members.aol.com/dxixrxt/spoon2.jpg" border="0" /> It's like a koala bear crapped a rainbow in my brain!

The highest the Jags can finish is 6th bc they would finish 2nd in their division behind the Colts.  So right now it's between the Bengals, and AFC West eventual winner for the 2nd seed.  Probably the Bengals.

is it mandatory that 2 division winners get the bye even if  one team has a worse record then a team thats in 2nd place in their division???example colts 15-1bengals 12-4denver 12-4jags 13-3 the bengals or denver have to get the 2nd bye just cause they won a division even if the jags are one game better then either???also jax can finish fifth as the 1st wildcard if they have a better record then the other wild card team as of right now they have a 1 game lead on the chiefs and chargers and 2 games on the steelers
