I had a delicious ostrich steak last night at a restaurant on the Upper East Side and it got me thinking: what's the strangest animal you've ever tasted? Before last night it was probably an alligator.

I had ostrich last week. Tastes just like regular steak.

I've also had camel steaks which taste a lot like lamb.

Oooh... I had ostrich for the first time like 3 weeks ago. I was a little grossed out at the idea, but once I had it, I knew I made the right decision. It's pretty damn good, and it's a really lean meat. Here's the surprise though... It's a bird, so you figure, what's it gonna taste like? Chicken, right? NO. In fact, it tastes a hell of a lot more like a cow. Don't ask me how it works, but the ostrich is a bird that somehow doesn't fly, and it's a bird that somehow tastes like steak.

I guess the only "non traditional" meats I've eaten are frog, deer, and rabbit. Yes... frog tastes like chicken, but with the texture of fish. Way too much bone, though. I'm talking about hunted frog, not the kind you get in a restaurant. The rabbit sucked, but that's probably because it was from the galley in Navy boot camp.

I've always wanted to cook up some earth worms. From what I've heard, all you have to do is put the worms in a bowl of cornmeal. They eat their way through the cornmeal, which coats them inside and out. Then you just fry them.

I would love to have a deer sandwich.......and I would imagine that it would look something like this:

I've had an alligator burger before.

Tasted like a fish. Wasn't bad but wasn't special enough to go back to.

I've had ostrich burgers too but they were pretty boring.

I
do LOVE the snails you get at dim sum places though. mmmmm.. I can sit
with a huge pile of them and just hang out sucking them out of their
shells. So damn good.
