Torre has just held his 8th closed door meeting last night. The team continues to lose, and whats worse, looks like they dont care. Torre and Jeter said as much last night. So put yourself in Steinbrenners shoes. You've got a 200 mil payroll and a team thats not performing. And a manager (with 4 rings) who has shown no ability to turn it around. What do you do?
And if you Vote to fire/release someone, please give a suggested replacement.

I say "All of above" This team needs a major shakeup, both with players and managment.

I'd
make Girardi the manager. Let him find a pitching coach he likes. I
dont care who the next GM is, just make it a "Baseball man" who's
fimiliar w/the Yanks. See if Stick wants it.

And I think both
Giambi and Brown are anchors. It's 100 mil, but if you eat most of it,
you can get a few minor leaguers for them. I think its this, or write off the season.

I think if you make anyone manager its going to Mattingly. Girardi can be bench coach.

I think Cashman has to go. He has killed the farm system and is in love with older NL talent. I think they should keep Giambi because he can make a turn around. Maybe all he needs is a new manager which brings me to Torre. I think it is time for him to go. It seems like none of the players get up for the games anymore. He is not doing his job to get them all ready to play.

I say trade Giambi, Brown, posada, Johnson, Shef . . . fuck it, keep Jeter, Arod, that guy on second whose name I can't remember, Matsui for talent, and keep Moose, bernie, and tino for experience. Everyone else can be traded for prospects. It's time to rebuild.

Face it Yankee fans, this team has simply not been the same since the departure of Homer Bush.

I say release Giambi. As much as I did think that he could have a chance at recovering from this horrific slump, in all truth we don't need 2 first basemen. And Martinez is a much better player defensively, and can hit well too.

I'm not a Yankees fan, but I like Torre. I think it would be ridiculous for Siegheilbrenner to blame him for this mess. Why? It's simple. Torre was not responsible for their winning, nor their losing ways either. As far as I'm concerned a baseball manager really doesn't not have as much impact on a team as they would in football.

Hell, just look at Torre's managerial record before entering the Yankee organization.

Joe Torre's record (http://www.thebaseballcube.com/managers/manager_261.shtml)

As you can see, he didn't do jack shit anywhere else, but than all of a sudden he comes to the Yanks and is managerial God. Sorry, but I attribute that more to the actual players and not him. When you have an unlimited payroll like Siegheilbrenner does, you or I could coach that team and they'd still be in contention every year.

I love Joe Torre as a manager, but I just think his time is up on the bench. Move him to front office, or give him cashman's job

I think its ridiculous that you say you cant fire him because he won 4 rings.

So he has a lifteime to maybe never win another one regarless of how far back he sets the team ?

Face it they won inspite of him in the past and now are losing because of him.

Never forget that this guy was fired from 3 teams prior to being the Great Savior.

3 teams who went to the playoffs not too long after he departed.

I agreed with Mike Lupica for the first time ever last week when he wrote that it was fine for Torre to take the credit for all the winning but now its time to start taking the heat for losing.

If your argument is that he only manages and doesnt really lose the games then quit yammering that he's a great manager because as much as he may not be losing the games that means he wasn't winning them either.

You're not gonna fire Rodriguez so make a change of scenery.

I think it's more about Cashman & the baseball people in the Tampa office. The foundation of the teams in the mid to late 90's was built by Gene Michael & Buck Showalter. Teams were made up of good solid players, much of it homegrown.

O'Neill, Brosius, Posada, Tino, Bernie, Leryitz, Knoblouch, etc. for the most part just good solid players who had a knack for coming through in the clutch. Of those early teams probably only Jeter and Marino Rivera will even get a sniff of the Hall of Fame. Only really big star on the team at the time was Boggs, but he was at the end of his career.

The "Superstar" era didn't really start till they got Clemens. Now all they do is look for the stars, at least the aging ones, over pay them on multi-year contracts. I'm a Yankee fan, so this year sucks, but they are getting what they deserve. By paying through the nose to out bid other teams, now they can't unload any of them.

The only struggled once they got to Mel and Joe in the Bronx. I think you can try harder then that.

Hey ESD, can we get Johnny Sterling fired too. I like the way you think. I say we replace him with Freddy from the stadium. You'll know its a homerun when he bangs the pot; strike out, bangs the pot; double play, bangs the pot; touches a little boy, fills the pot. That my friend is what Freddy says.

Because the Yankees aren't playing well enough to afford to let him "wait and see if he comes around." If we were in 1st place by 8 games, I'd say "Let's see if he can come around." But right now, he's nothing but a detriment to the team on the field, and I think he's a source of negative energy in the dugout.
