It really couldnt come at a worse time. A few weeks ago when I got from NY, I got home to open a jurry summons notice. The shitty part about it is that my cheap ass company that makes millions of dollars, and spends millions of dollars on research, only pays me if I serve 14 days or more. Jury duty itself only pays me 15 dollars a day. Now for the most frequesntly asked question of all time, how do I get out of it. Im getting tired of hearing everyone tell me o say Im racist and all that stuff. Im not like that. Do I tell them that I cant afford to be payed 15 dollars a day?

I am going to just start not even sending it back.&nbsp; They dont send it registered mail or anything, whos to say you never even got the summons? Im not saying to break the law, Im just saying..how can they prove you got the notice?&nbsp; Also, if your living in Florida, why cant you say you moved and let them figure it out?

<p>I just went through this in NJ.&nbsp; I say go bite the bullet for the time they want you.&nbsp; Chances are in your favor that you won't get called to be on a jury.&nbsp; </p><p>If you want an excuse, listen to the judge and others as they talk.&nbsp; My guy asked a whole bunch of open ended questions that I could have pounced on to get out.&nbsp; My case was for insurance companies battling over money, and the judge asked the people in the jury box if they had any strong feelings about insurance companies that would color their judgement.&nbsp; If I got picked, I would have said yes, my family and friends were screwed by them many times and I hate them.&nbsp; It would effect my judgement.</p><p>The racist thing is so stupid.&nbsp; Yea, I'm gonna say I hate Shwoogies in the middle of Newark, with black people all around me.&nbsp; People who say that are fucking idiots.&nbsp; I mean it's a good joke, but not a serious way out.</p><p>And I wouldn't even bother with the money or job situation.&nbsp; These assholes don't seem to care about your life.&nbsp; They think the shit amount of money they give you makes up for lost days.&nbsp; </p>

Just tell them you're really anxious to find someone guilty, and that you really hope you get a death penalty case.

Yeah what's the deal man? EVERYONE is getting jury duty now! Did the government just FORGET about a whole generation of people and then JUST relaize now that we all owe jury duty? I just got it, along with like 8 other people I know in the last 3 months or so. It's rampant. I got out of it though, cuz I just said "I'm a college student. I have classes!" even though it's summer, and I don't... But whatta they know?

Try asking to move the date to a holiday week (ie. July 1,2,3.) They basically don't start new trials right before a holiday, so they let the jury pool go after 1 1/2 - 2 days and barely call any potential juries during that time.

It isnt fool proof, but it improves your chances.

response.-

they will give you a questionaire. you could either A) just answer
everything one way without reading, or B) if a question says something
along the lines of Would you trust an officer's testimony more than a
standard citizen? if you get a ? like that, say yes, cause you are
supposed to take anyone under oath equal to everyone else. if you say
you dont, they remove you right away<br />

Is that even legal?

From the Florida something something jury duty websit (http://jud11.flcourts.org/jury_service/default.htm#jury12)e:

Will I receive salary from my employer for time spent on jury duty?

Sections 11-31, et seq., of the Code of Metropolitan Miami-Dade County provides that employers are to pay employees for jury service if:

The employee is regularly scheduled for work at least 35 hours a week;
The employer has at least 10 full-time employees;
The employee serves as a juror in Miami-Dade County;
The employer has offices or does business in Miami-Dade County; and,
The employee gives the employer copies of the summons and notice of jury service at least five working days prior to absence from work.

Man this is from 2005?

Hey how about an update? What happened to you?

I had to appear for jury duty on March 22. I had to fill out some questionairre. I wasn't selected, but I STILL have to call back, and find out if they will select me as an alernate. I have been calling for over a month. every day. it's ridiculous.
