Let me bump this thread.

GREAT season premiere. I'm so happy this show is back.

This show totally snuck up on me. I had no idea it was back on already. I knew it was coming back, but I saw zero promotions for it.

That episode was pretty, pretty good. I'm glad it's backed. The best part was when Funkhouser asked Larry, "Why'd you take the balls home?"

JimBeam

Yes this was a fantastic episode !!

There were several occasions were I laughed out loud prompting my wife to wake up and ask me what I was laughing about.

It was completely filled w/ all of the normal awkwradness you'd expect from Larry's character.

By the way was Richard's g/f played by Tia Carrere ?

The problem I have with the show now is that it's getting too sit-commish. That is, the situations are getting really contrived. Larry steals flowers from a roadside memorial because he can't use a $50 bill? Doesn't he have a credit or debit card? That's what I'd have done, and I didn't co-create Seinfeld.

Earlier, sometimes the situations Larry got into weren't his fault, and you could kind of side with him. Increasingly, though, he's going from being just kind of a jerk into a damn-near psychopath.

I had this same thought last night. He's sort of gone from weird, quirky, asshole to basically a sociopath.

I thought the same thing watching it last night.

Also, what I'd like to see is if they could grow Cheryl more as a character, for example, when Larry screwed up with the woman from the school in the ice cream place he needed to go and apologize to her. He told Cheryl he'd fix it and she just went and assumed he would.

Based on what? He has an entire history of not fixing and only making matters worse, while it's funny how many times can he do the same thing? I would have rather seen her say, no we'll fix it together knowing you, and then it's the two of them in the situation. He would have still fucked it up somehow but at least it would have been more creative than the same thing again and again.

This show has always had this sort of stuff. Maybe because Larry hates writing.

Larry David on the Seinfeld cast reunion on Curb Your Enthusiasm this Fall.
http://www.thrfeed.com/2009/07/larry-david-talks-seinfeld-reunion-on-curb.html

"I would say, 'No, there's no reunion, we would never do that, it's a lame idea' ... but it might be really funny to do that on 'Curb' ... and I kept thinking of how we could pull this off, and Jerry was game ... so we're doing a 'Seinfeld' reunion show. ... I actually saw an episode On Demand last night that I hadn't seen.

The one where Larry gets the massage and almost gets a happy ending.

Then he gets in trouble for trying to bring the restaurant's fork and napkin out to the limo driver.

Classic stuff because it all snowballs.

It's still a good show, but it's starting to feel a little contrived to me. Like that whole scene where the doctor goes into Larry's fridge and gets a lemonade. That almost seemed to be sticking in an excuse for Larry to get in an argument.

Still funny, true, but it does seem like the shows are constructed now to come up with as many ways to get Larry into an argument as possible now.

OK, I posted this int he middle of watching, and I just got to the "Fuck me fatboy!" scene. Fucking gold.

But weren't the shows always constructed that way?

It might seem obvious now, after 15 seasons of Seinfeld and Curb combined, but it's always the same formula. Almost none of the situations are natural, they are specifically constructed and timed for comic effect and Larry has mastered it.

i like when larrys troubles are less cut and dry. moral outrage is less effective when you know the person is wrong.

i think that in the coming episodes, jeff will push for the seinfeld reunion, because the big names will save his tarnished name. and larry will go along with it, to get away from the blacks and closer to cheryl.
i thought the scenes of larry and cheryl were very romantic and a big difference from where they left things a few years ago. i wonder how that relates to larry davids real life.

Maybe its because I don't watch TV (I dl'd the ep so I wouldn't have to wait for the DVD like I do with anything I watch) that I'm not burnt out on it's offerings? Or maybe the fact that I was so excited about the show's return that I actually went out of my way to DL it, that made me enjoy it so much.

I guess what I'm saying is, I'm genuinely surprised that we aren't unanimously heralding the return of Larry David.

Goddamn...I was laughing my ass off at two scenes in tonights episode. The first was where Larry broke that dude's glasses and they are arguing about it and one of Larry's best comebacks is "Your a moron..." I dont know why, it just made me laugh. I guess because I have seen old neighbors of mine and just wanted to blurt that out amongst our glad handing each other.

The other part was the ending with Leon, and how he thought Leon would leave with the family. "Well I guess this means..." "...I am eating my chinese food upstairs. In my mother fucking room."

Can't wait to see the Seinfeld reunion next week. Looks fantastic.

I didn't hate the first episode as much as some of you, but it was clearly just a set up for this season. You had the introduction of Larry being sick of the Black family, his desire to reunite with Cheryl, and the first mention of a Seinfeld reunion. Maybe the fridge section was a bit forced, but it was still a pretty good episode.

Last night's broadcast, though, was stellar. Who hasn't fought with packaging? The glasses thing and the dinner debacle were vintage Larry, and the bj storyline was hilarious. That it all ended up back with the packaging issue had me laughing harder than I have in quite some time.

I suspect Leon is hanging around because while Larry David wanted to get the Black Family plotline out of the way, he wants someone around for when Michael Richards shows up.

I'm guessing all four of them will be in next week's episode -- we only saw Jerry and Jason Alexander in the preview.

See, I'd argue that one of the strengths of the show (until this season) is you could basically pick any epsiode from any season and go with it. Nothing really carried over of significance that you had to know of ahead of time. It's only with this season that they've finally changed that with storylines like Larry's seperation and the Blacks that you'd have to have seen season 6 to know what had happened.

His ex giving her b/f Larry's phine# and address ?

Him running from his own house, w/ doors that can belooked, to go running around the neighborhood ?

This was the first problem I had with the guy on the plane as soon as the scene started. That and the exposed thigh.

I kinda feel the same way.

Sure there are some funny scenes now and again but the normal awkwardness that makes the show so relevant seems so much more forced this season.

Especially in the last 2 episodes ( completely in the previous one ).

Why would the ex-g/f give Larry's address to her b/f ?

Why would Larry leave his house, with locked doors, to run to other people's houses ?

And while Larry was totally right in the fact that Sammy's singing was awful it was dumb that he embarassed her like that.

I'm hoping the Seinfeld actors will help make this season better.

Yes. I laughed also. But they were funny in a Police Squad! or Airplane funny. The show always pushed the envelope but now everything is way over the top.

I find it funny that in the season opener Jason Alexander said that "this could make up for the finale" of Seinfeld. LD is going down the exact same path - like being arrested and convicted for not stopping a mugging and making fun of John Pinnette's weight. Maybe that's the point JD is trying to make.

And guess what, Bill Donohue's all pissed off about the plotline about the picture of Jesus being pissed on.

. In a statement, titled “Urinating on Jesus,” Donohue says, “At one point in the show, David goes to the bathroom in a Catholic home and splatters urine on a picture of Jesus; he doesn’t clean it off. Then a Catholic woman goes to the bathroom, sees the picture and concludes that Jesus is crying. She then summons her equally stupid mother and the two of them fall to their knees in prayer. When David and Jerry Seinfeld (playing himself) are asked if they ever experienced a miracle, David answers, ‘every erection is a miracle.’ That’s what passes for creativity these days. Was Larry David always this crude? Would he think it comedic if someone urinated on a picture of his mother?”

Seriously, Bill, go fuck yourself.

You'd think that's what he did based on the reaction. It's so obvious that most of the people complaining never watched the show because they talk about like he was gleefully pissing all over a picture of Jesus. The whole thing was staged and written like the character had done a horrible thing just by accidentally splashing a drop of pee on the painting.

Thanks. I'm an audible listener, so I guess I'll get to hear his side tonight or tomorrow.

Just curious if they got into any comparisons to the Imus incident, because that seemed to be where the FoxNews viewers/readers wanted this to go.

I've got no problem if Ron, or any other CYE viewer took offense to the scene, and would completely understand if CYE ratings drop as a result.

My problem is with those who only hear or read that "LD pissed on a picture of Jesus Christ", and starts campaigning against a show or network and soliciting other "like minded people" into boycotting sponsors (or in this case, cancelling HBO subscriptions) and campaigning to get a show cancelled that most probably don't watch anyway.

Those that were not offended or "outraged" should still have the freedom and the choice to continue to watch the show as long as HBO continues to air the episodes.

Let the ratings determine whether a show should air, and not pressure from "the moral majority" or other "outraged" organizations.
