View Full Version : Freaky Phobias

I was reading a post on another message board,
and some guy wrote that he hated using the Playstation 2 controller
because sometimes when he used the two analog sticks his thumbs would
touch each other and that really freaks him out.

Repeat: The guy is freaked out when his thumbs touch each other.

Anybody have weird phobias like that that make no sense whatsoever? I don't.

Touching Sneaker Shoelaces freaks me out, but only sometimes and only if I'm thinking about it. same thing happens with cotton balls too... must be a fabric thing

I can't stand to have any kind of fabric touch my teeth. It's even hard writing about this. When I see someone pull a glove on with their teeth, or like when people chew on the collar of their sweaters.... UGH!!! It's so damn SICK!!! I also hate it when people hold onto money with their mouth. That's not a weird phobia, though. It's just plain sick. Money is one of the most unsanitary items in the world.

I can't stand to have any kind of fabric touch my teeth.

I wouldn't call that a phobia. Its more of just something that feels weird. I have the same problem too, but its not a phobia unless it's an irrational and delibitating fear. If this dont make sense, I apoligize for I am fucked up right now.

quote: Touching Sneaker Shoelaces freaks me out, but only sometimes and only if I'm thinking about it. same thing happens with cotton balls too... must be a fabric thing
It's reassuring to know that I'm not the only one who gets freaked out by these things. My kids have learned by now that they have to help Daddy open new meds. The few times that I've had to pull a cotton ball out of a bottle myself... well, let's just say that I'm glad no one was around to see the horrified faces I make, and the different ways I've tried to do it without having to hear or feel it scrape along the rim of the bottle... or worse... TEAR! If it were a smooth glass bottle, no problem. But someting like a Tylenol bottle, with a tight, sharp, rough plastic rim almost guarantees scraping and possible tearing, and I get freaked out just thinking about it.

I fucked up and asked my last ex wife if she'd take one out for me, and went on and told her why. She thought it was fucking hillarious and took great joy in ripping cotton balls apart around me. One night at work, while holding a team meeting, she had given each of the 40 or so employees a cotton ball, and just as I was wrapping the meeting up, she had them pull them out and tear and throw them at me. I guess she thought it would be funny. That was the beginning of the end of that relationship.

When I was a kid, Mom had put me in this winter coat with a hood and a drawstring, and the first morning that she put that hood up... and pulled that goddamned string... and that scraping fabric sound was all around my face and under my chin... and then she tied those dry, rough strings together... shit, I'm biting my tongue even typing this.

I would think the fabric touching the teeth thing would kind of also skeeve people out from eating rice cakes, or similar to the cotton ball thing. I guess its the "squeek" when the material rubs against the tooth enamel. I kind like rubbing my teeth with course material and seeing if any discoloration comes off.
I sometimes have trouble upon exiting a tight bathroom stall, because I fear that my pants leg will touch the toilet and get someone elses piss or whatever on me from it. I also get panic attacks when I think that someone will get in front of me, or get a spot in a parking lot that I thought was "mine". Like when someone is pulling out and I am approaching and I suddenly see another car round the corner also looking for a spot and the guy thats pulling out is taking too long and Im afraid the other guy will take the spot before I can get in. I almost get so upset that I am willing to crash over it. Its crazy.
Lately I have been consumed with the idea that I am "stuck" in my current work location.
Is this a phobia?

A guy I work with has a fear of children. It was funny as hell one day when some other guy's kids were at work, and you could see this guy trying to be all suddle and get away from them.

when i'm in the car and stopped and a car slowly creeps up on the passenger side... sometimes i think somebody may want to take some shooting target practice with my head

or if i'm driving in some unfamiliar area and i'm at a red light with a car in front of me and there is a car pulling up behind me. i make sure i leave enough room between me and the car in front so i can pull out if they want to double team me...

when i drive home from work it's in the early morning hours and i always catch a red light on this one corner where there's a house that basically touches the street 'no sidewalk' and it looks like a house from Texas Chainsaw Massacre... as i'm waiting for the light to turn green i keep looking out my windows and in my mirrors to make sure nobody is sneaking up... it's adark corner and the only light is the traffic light
