I read a couple days ago that the Revolution was supposed to be backwards compatible to the
The system is fucking tiny. About the size of an external cd burner.

Yes, this is the actual controller for the Revolution. No, it is not a DVD remote. No, I am not joking. This is it.

The
A button is the big button on the front, and the B button is on the
back. The controller can be placed on its side to play classic Nintendo
games. It functions as a 3D mouse, meaning it recognizes when you move
it forward, backward, up, down, left and right. It has rumble
capability. Accessories can be attached to the controller like in the
pic below.

I'm
just thinking about playing FPS like Metroid Prime with this thing.
This could be the most perfect fucking thing for that type of game.
Most people are going to be turned off by the sight of it. I am very
intrigued. At least somebody's trying something
different.

Ah, this is so fucking cool. Everyone pretty much expected
this technology, but its really cool to see it actually
happening. Theres going to be so many great oppurtunities for
games, but like everybody has been saying-this is the perfect
controller for FPS's.

Its really disappointing that so many
people automatically dismiss the idea. DS is the only system I
play now becuase I'm so bored with current consoles. Buying an
Xbox 360 or PS3 would be the third generation of pretty much the same
console. No thanks.

I'll be buying Revolution for sure.

That is just awful.
Nintendo is gonna fuck this up again with their shitty marketing. Considering what they are doing with the old games (NES, SNES, N64, Sega, TG-16) for download and the new motion sensored controller, Revolution was a really good name.

Despite the gay name, this is still the only console I'm even remotely excited about, and the only on I will consider getting at launch. PS3 I will eventually get because undoubtedly it will have all the franchises I really want to play (Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid, GTA), but I'm not plunking down $400-$500 at launch when I bought a launch PS1 and PS2 and they both failed after a year or two. I'll wait for at least the first price drop. At least this will be introducing something innovative, and will be available for a reasonable price.
PSP recreates a home console in a portable unit, does that very well, and after a long dry spell is coming out with some great games. Lumines, Wipeout Pure, Twisted Metal, GTA, Daxter, Syphon Filter, Virtua Tennis, SOCOM and Exit are all very good games. They just announced a new Metal Gear Solid for the PSP, a REAL MGS, not like Acid, which will follow up MGS 3 and fill the gap between it and the original Metal Gear. it looks awesome. Loco Roco looks great. Every Extend Extra is a musical game by the creator of Lumines, looks promising. There's SOCOM 2. There's a new Killzone game that's coming. There's Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core. There's a new Ratchet and Clank game coming.

And then there's always the emulators if you know what you are doing.

It's all about what kind of games you prefer. They are planning on releasing 25% the amount of PS3's as there were Xbox 360's released on their launch date. $400 xboxes were selling for $1500 on Ebay when they launched because they were so rare. I don't even want to think about what the cost of the PS3 will be. If your thinking of pre-ordering one to pick up on the launch date, you are already too late. I wanted to get one just to turn it around on Ebay.

The PS3 will also be $600 to start (without a game). They have the brilliant plan of including a BlueRay drive for high definition movies (which is why it is so expensive), but they fail to give you a cable to use the system in high definition. That will cost you $40 extra. Blueray also doesn't seem to be being picked up by anyone yet either, it may turn out like Betamax or Sony Minidiscs.

Sony recently patented technology that will lock games to systems. That means once you put a disc in your PS3, you can't play it anywhere else, trade it back in, or sell it on Ebay. I don't think Sony will implement this technology, but it is something to take note of.

After all that negative info, I still might buy one. The PS3 is using supposed to be running on some form of Linux. If this is true and I can do whatever I want with it, I would get on in a second. A comparable PC would cost 5X that price.

The Wii really is a slightly enhanced Game Cube with a fancy controller. There is nothing "nextgen" about it (no HD even). I'll wait to see how that one turns out. The controller could make incredible, unique games, but Nintendo tried something very similar before called the Power Glove, which was a total piece of shit.

Anyone else get a preorder today? I waited an hour at a local EB before the store even opened only to find out that the person in front of me would get the last available pre-order. I decide immediately to drive down the road to a local mall and walk into the Gamestop. There's no line, no crowd and they still had pre-orders available. So I get one. turns out I didn't have to wake up early or wait around or anything. I feel doubly idiotic.

I'm leery of all videogame motion-detecting devices. I'm still trying to think of one that was successful and didn't suck complete ass. The power glove was awful. There was this god-awful thing called the Activator for Sega, in which you were supposed to kick your foot in a certain angel over a sensor arranged around your body in a circle and your character in the game would do a roundhouse kick. It never worked and was a failure. I wonder how these motion sensitive controls will work. I wish Nintendo success, but we'll see how this works out.

Nintendo announces Wii Motion Plus

NINTENDO INTRODUCES THE WII™ MOTIONPLUS
July 14, 2008
Nintendo's upcoming Wii™ MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote™ controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player's arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo's commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.
This is huge news. It blows thta I will have to pay for an attachement, a la Rumble Pack back in the day, but the fact that they are stating 1:1 response is very intriguing. That term means actual accurate transition of the position of your hand holding the Wiimote.
Wonder if it will be too accurate? Will old games work?

I guess you plug the nunchuck into the bottom of the attachment??
If it registers the nunchuck in 1:1 as well, I'll be VERY impressed.
When you need the nunchuck to register your motions in certain games (Wii Sports, Wii Fit), it's very shitty, and doesn't even pickup your movements half the time.
Good news. Now get some fucking better games. Outside of the games produced first party by Nintendo, I'm pretty disappointed with the Wii's selection.

both my wife's wii and my kids' wiis have been collecting dust for months.
Just a heads up...I noticed last weekend that Gamestops around here had Manhunt 2 on clearance for $12.99.
I imagine that's all of them, and that they're getting rid of the game (or they have an enormous inventory of unsold copies...which makes sense, since it's an extremely violent rated M game for the Wii).
Anyway, I picked up a copy. For $13, it's worth a look. I remember being curious about the game when I heard you could basically mimic stabbing people with the Wiimote.
Most of the reviews are above average to good, so for $13, it's a steal to add to the library.
I've managed to amass a nice little library of quality third party Wii games. So for everyone who complains there's no games, it's just not true.

I really dug Wii Fit, and I was wondering if anyone heard things about EA Sports Active. Is it a decent work out? Is it as good as Wii Fit?
Yea I heard that EA Sports Active is going to be one of EA's most important games this year. With the way games sell on the Wii it should be a hit for that casual audience that want a fun workout. I hear it, unlike wii fit, is suppose to be more responsive. It's suppose to work with you and direct you as to what you should be doing rather then just letting you do whatever you want to do. It's also suppose to build you up over time having you burn more calories as you get better. So this is suppose to be a lot better then Wii Fit.
I think EA is really doing all the right things with there lineup this year. They have Tiger Woods that is suppose to be amazing with wii motion plus. They have Grand Slam Tennis which is a must buy for me. They have reworked controls and look of Madden to something that works a lot better for the wii. And they have Boom Blox Bash Party coming out. That game is going to rock.
For Those that are looking for 3rd party titles on the Wii, Boom Blox, De Blob, and World of Goo are must haves.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.
http://videogames.yahoo.com/events/plugged-in/innovative-nintendo-game-help-system-to-debut-this-year/1326709
In an interview with USA Today, legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that the company's rumored in-game help system (initially dubbed the "Kind Code," but now tentatively called "demo play") will make its first appearance in the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii, which hits store shelves this holiday.
Rather than forcing players to comb the web for cheat codes and walkthroughs, the new help system is built directly into the game. If a player gets stuck, they'll have the option to pause play and allow the game to take over and play itself through any rough patches. Once they're out of the woods, players can hop back in and continue playing.
This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.
http://videogames.yahoo.com/events/plugged-in/innovative-nintendo-game-help-system-to-debut-this-year/1326709
 Great life lesson for the kids who will be playing this. If things get too hard, someone else will take over for you.
I do see a small hint of encouraging news in that. Hopefully this will allow them to produce actual games as opposed to the loads of minigame nonsense that floods the marektplace currently without alienating their new casual gaming audience. They will be able to use this when a game gets too tough for them allowing them still to have enjoyment and the rest of us, we don't have to use it.
Of course Nintendo has done nothing but disappoint me since the Wii was released so I doubt it.

I bought a Wii (hate the name by the way... should have left it at revolution) and had some fun with it but once the novelty wore off and I realized all the games were just gimmicky (built around that ridiculous controller) I sold it. Somehow nintendo always sucks me in with their new products at first (they are very good at releasing systems with a healthy dose of good games which their competition tends to not do) but than I just always feel like they end up running out of steam after the huge initial success and than I feel like I have wasted my money. I guess the nintendo line of games is just not compatible with my taste in games.

Just got Little King's Story and Opoona.
Little King's Story is great! Very much like Pikmin meets Overlord (that's a 360 game for those not familiar).
I have heard Opoona was awesome and Gamestop just had a price reduction on it. Brand new $10.
I'm a happy camper today.

I kinda dropped my Wii for a couple weeks but then recently just had a real hankerin' to play Super Mario Galaxies. Damn that game is fucking crazy. The way you're flipping all over the place gets you motion sick for a little while at the beginning of playing.
Gonna have to remember to "get" a few of those games that take advantage of the new Wii Motion Plus thing I bought. Golf and Tennis I think.

Its pretty much idiot proof now unless your serial number on the Wii has LU64 or LU65 in it.

So I got rid of my Wii a while ago, have played it a few times through other people since then.
Honestly, I know Nintendo sold a whole crapload of systems, but I really really wish it was as powerful and as nice as the 360. I've always been pro-nintendo, but the wiimote controls are kinda old now. I've used the new 1:1 movement detection that comes with Wii Resort, and it is pretty cool....but it's novelty already wore out for me. Also, not many cool games have come out. And I really really tried with the new Zelda game, but I couldn't finish it. I hated the wiimote controls, and felt it was the weakest Zelda game yet. Shame there aren't many other games out that would make me want this system again.
Anyone else feel this way about the system? Anyone think that it was pretty cool at first, but is kinda meh now and is near "suck" level?
Love my 360, tons of games to play. Would like a PS3 but it is not worth it nowadays (slim looks nice, but meh).

You're complaining about the main feature of the system. It's the one thing everyone talks about when they talk about a Wii. It's a selling feature. It's like buying a washing machine and being surprised when it washes clothes.

With Wii Fit Plus, they're going to have 30/40 minutes mixed workouts right? I will totally get it if they have those, the one thing I dislike about the Wii Fit is you have to select individual exercises... I'd much rather have a 30 min preplanned routine.

I don't know that very many of the first party Nintendo titles would benefit from the Wii Motion Plus.
EA's Grand Slam Tennis has made the best use of it from the games I've played that use it, so far.
Not that I've been playing a whole lot of new games lately -- 95% of the video game playing I've done in the last two months has been on Final Fantasy IV The After Years for WiiWare. Finally just about to finish it up (I think). Square has an absolute gold mine on their hands if they start producing sequels as good as this one for the other FF titles and some of their other RPGs over the Wii Shop Zone, Playstation Store, etc.

The only accessories you'll really need is a second wiimote and nunchuk (2nd controller), so you can play against someone else. I don't know if there is a bundle with that. Unless you specifically want certain accessories like wiifit, a microphone, Rock Band instruments, Wii Motion Plus (which is cool, but isn't in use on too many games yet) etc., the deal you found is probably a solid one.

I got the wii just before thanksgiving - I gave it out early so we could play on thanksgiving.
as was said i think it's a way more family friendly system. We ordered at the time from Amazon- it had the $50 gift card if you got wii system and wii fit w/board, which i wanted anyway.
as for the 2nd controller, we got Wii Play with Wii Remote - its 39.99 at Amazon and includes a controller. the controller alone costs 39.99 retail (36.99 at Amazon) so its basically a game for cheap.
If you have a costco they have a bundle of 2nd controller, 2nd nunchuck (which is 19.99 on its own) and a wii motion for 49.99 - so you basically get the motion for free.

It's going to look and sound pretty shitty, though...but if you're a Netflix subscriber with a Wii, it's a free perk, so it's tough to complain.
This is why I love Netflix as a company, though...they find ways to incorporate their product into literally everything.
