i did ask jeeves but anything with the words Roosevlt and Repeal just brings me stuff on Prohibition. and Smoot-Hawley just gets papers about what actually started the Great Depression, nothing on whether or not FDR could have repealed the tax.

I think congress is in charge of that, but he could've leaned on them the way he did with the new deal

It passed as an amendment to the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act.

Raised or lowered?... raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before?
The President can VETO a bill which has passed both the house and
senate. But once signed into law, only the House of Representatives
repeal it, or the supreme court can strike it down as unconstitutional.

So, the short answer is NO, you cant blame FDR. And stop trying to Google it, its just some civics 101.

You
know what Smoot-Hawley was, right? A bill that raised tariffs on
foreign goods. Intended to help American businesses, it did the
opposite. It started a trade war at a time when the economy was weak
and we were still saddled with debts from WW1. The result was the
country sunk deeper into depression.

BUT dont blame the Great Depression JUST on Smoot-Hawley. It was one of many factors.

I don't think a president can just arbitrarily repeal something which has become law.

Smoot-Hawley had a really bad effect on the economy, as it restricted trade.

It was a misguided effort to help American business.

You are really fucking up if you miss out on it in your paper.

Look up the 2000 debates between Vice President Al Gore and Governor George W. Bush for additional reference, as Gore presented The Tee-Ball President with a nice framed picture of Mr. Smoot and Mr. Hawley at one of them.
