Anyone know anything about ducks? There is a male and a female mallard duck in the bushes in front of my work. They've been there all morning and are not moving (They are active, but not moving from thier spot in the bushes). The female duck is quacking non stop. They stop quacking when we approach them, but they're not running or flying away. I'm worried the female might be injured (or maybe laying eggs). I'm going to spend all day worrying about these stupid ducks and I wouldn't even know what to do if they are injured. <br /><img height="100" src="http://www.ronfez.net/imagestorage/tiggy.gif" width="300" border="1" /><br />"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." Chances are they just had little ducklings nearby or are about to. I had them in my bushes 2 yrs ago at home. 1 day they came out of the bushes with about 10 chicks and walked into my pool. I couldn't get them out. Suffolk county's finest had to defuse the situation. Check surrounding bushes for babies...
Trust me, it won't hurt.

<p>Grab a co-worker and play "Duck, Duck Goose" with them. </p><p>Show him/her Duck #1, Duck #2, then stick your finger up his ass. </p>

<p>Actually, in a related story, in front of the Treasury Building here in DC not too long ago a Duck took up residence and set up her nest there...The Secret Service gated her off and made sure no one messed with them and took care of them....</p><p>She finally hatched her eggs a couple weeks ago and they took them down to Rock Creek park and let em loose....</p><p>I think they had some sort of contest or something to name the duck, with the winner being "Duck Cheney"</p>

Id bet a million bucks they are laying eggs there. Just leave them be. Nature has to take care of itself. They'll be fine, but if it turns out to have been a fatefull mistake for the ducks to have chosen a bad spot, then you just witnessed natural selection in action. The reason I say this is because if it is their flawed programming that caused them to lay in an unsafe spot, then future offspring with bad programming wont be born. You owe it to them to not interfere. Serious.

Amazing rescue by a mother duck who went the extra mile (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1026801/Amazing-rescue-mother-duck-went-extra-mile.html)
Trapped in a dark sewer, the six little mallard ducklings found themselves cut off and facing an uncertain future.
Their only hope of seeing daylight again lay with their mother - who they had last seen more than a mile away as they were sucked into a drain.
Rescue seemed impossible. Yet somehow the mother duck had managed to follow her offspring for more than a mile, apparently listening to their cheeps of distress at manhole covers as they were swept along below ground.
Her incredible journey took her across a busy roundabout, countless roads, a metro rail line, a housing estate, two school playing fields and hospital grounds.

ya, it sounds like she's protecting her eggs. Hopefully everyone just leaves them alone and let's nature do its thing.

Try not to bother them. Sounds to this farm boy they are nesting. Believe it or not if mom is on her nest, she will hurt you if you get too close. Try to get where you work to cordon it off like the previous poster said. Give your state department of wildlife a call and they will tell you how to go about giving them what they need. Disturbing them I am sure is a a state and federal crime. Send us pictures of the hatchlings.
