when screamo was known as like "melodic hardcore" i really thought it was great stuff. I still listen to bands like Glassjaw and Thursday because their guitar work is so fresh and original. Nowadays with bands like Hawthorne Heights... the genre lost all originality. There's no character to it.

I'll lump it in with every other musical phase that's come and gone.  In 20 years...SCREAMO will be a Rock & Roll Jeopardy catagory along with Ska, Boy Bands, Swing/Big Band, Electronica, Hair Metal, White boy Rap Metal, Puffy-inspired-80ies-sampled-rap, PeaRRRL Jam-inspiRRRed-bands-with-chin-jutting-singeRRRs, and,  poppy bands with numbers in their title.

how can you add Ska and swing into the mix?? Swing/Big Band has been around since the 20's or so with acts of Count Basie and Duke Ellington and so forth, and Ska has been around for ages as well, for at least 40 years it started in Jamaica. It started in the 1960s.  Freaking reggae music CAME FROM SKA, so saying that ska was a fade is absolutly crazy.  But yea lets throw it in with Boy Bands and Hair metal and screamo cause that makes sense.

ska is a viable precursor to reggae that's been around for 40 plus years ... now you can toss out all that west coast crap, but jamaican and british ska is damn good ...swing/big band was the at birth of pop music and its principals begat bop and cool jazz, and laid the foundations for rock & roll ...

SWING was absolutely a fad!  It might have started several decades ago but it was "in" a few years ago and it quickly & quietly died and faded off the pop culture landscape.  I vaguely remember Gap & CocaCola riding the Big Band thing in their commercials for about two months.SKA...same thing.  Yeah yeah yeah..it's been around forever but, there was a liitle while there where it was a real "craze".  Every basement band in the world was speeding up and playing those damn upbeats on every song.  GRUNGE was a SUPER FAD.  In a few years...all those bands will be touring together with only 1/3 the original members and two roadies.

yea but your saying they have come and gone, which they havent they are
still huge.  Your talking MTV wise...big fucking deal, everything
is fad then if you go by that, so is Reggae and all the Pop music that
Swing and Ska influenced in its earlier stages.  Makes no sense
what you have said.  Just because it was massively popular for a
couple of years out of nowhere doesnt mean it has faded out like the
other types of musics you mentioned.  Boy Bands and Hair Metal
wasnt around 30 years when it finally broke through to mainstream...IT
STARTED IN MAINSTREAM.

most "heavy" metals (death, black, just plain metal, or whatever the
fuck else you crazy kids call them) would be alot better if the singers
just shut the fuck up. the music is fine, i like alot of the music, but
the yelling is just god awful. there are exceptions, there are a couple metal bands i will listen to but for the most part, stop singing

I'll agree with you on Dimmu because I greatly dislike Black Metal singing.  To high pitched and raspy.  I like the low and mid level growls and shouts of Death Metal much more.

Sure, there has ALWAYS been a boy-band of some variety (Jackson5, Osmonds, New Edition, NKOTB...) but it was from apprx 1998 to 2002 when it was really a CRAZE. (Nysnc, BSB, Otown, LFO, 98 degrees...)I officially call it a "fad" once the backlash begins.

because, unfortunately, they arent over yet. boy bands are in the works
as we speak. i would call anything like that trends more than
fads. they are here then gone then more come in and gone and it keeps
goin in a circle. to quote the great Dr Dre - "Im a
trend, i set one every time im in, i go out and just come back full
circle again, you a fad, it means your something that we already had

Snoogs.We seem to be in agreement that Boybands come and go.  It seems like we're bickering over the word "Fad".  I would bet that a lot of people use Fad, Craze, & Trend (etc) interchangably.  So, I'll say this:I think something can be a fad more than once. By MY understanding of the literal definition, when something has a (somewhat) temporary enthusiasm attached to it...it's a FAD..regardless whether or not it already experienced that kind of enthusiasm once before.Like I said earlier. The dictionary says that FAD is synonomous with CRAZE and, I think even you would agree that something can be a CRAZE more than once.  It doesn't say that a FAD can't be re-occuring. If you don't agree...you dont agree. I was making reference to the websters' definition and that even IT states that Fad and Craze are synonyms AND that it doesn't say anything about a Fad being a one-time-only thing.Seriously...if it "sounds" (reads) like I have an attitude... it is unintentional.  I'm sure that if we were in the same room, face to face, TALKING instead of typing...this would've been a interesting little discussion. kiss are pretty much boy bands to me ... Funny
because word has it that Gene is planning to make KISS like Menudo was
in the 80's. He obviously has no shame dressing up the scabs in Ace's
and Peter's make-up so he will have even less shame writing the songs
while the "boys" will just fill out the costume as they continue to
pump out records. Apparently there won't be an age limit. Gene just
want's KISS to go on like a cable knit sweater that someone keeps
knitting and knittingand knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting......
