I was a maid at the "Red Horse Motor Inn." This was a great first job because I got to be independent (I don't work well with others) and there was a definite sense of accomplishment, especially after cleaning a particularly messy room. But by far the best part about this job was having a toilet in every room for those days I had to work with a hangover.

At 16, I gots a desk job with the Prince George's County Public Works Department. It paid $3.38 an hour when minum wage was $3.35, so I can say that I technically never worked for minimum wage.

when i was 14 i worked for this older lithuainan couple in their home on varick st in jersey city. the guy would mark articles in newspapers and magazines and i had to cut them out and place them in certain envelopes... they had a den on the 2nd floor with a desk where i would do my work

one time the lady wanted me to go with her to see MacArthur at a theater in NYC and she would treat me to a steak dinner at Tad's Steaks. But i had to get my dad to drive us and the car had to have air conditioning. I think my dad was alittle ticked he got in the middle of it but he drove us over and picked us up.

you think the job would be easy enough but every once in a while he'd double-check the newspaper or magazine and find articles i missed. made me feel like a real dumbass... i quit and moved onto bigger and better things, the local fruit and vegetable market... 2.50 an hour

Mine was as a gofer for a local real estate agency. I only worked 2 hours a day for $3.35 an hour. I managed to save enough to buy a fishing pole and my first Nikon.

I was eleven years old and I was a delivery boy for Kirschenbaum's Drug Store in Chicago. I was recruited by the owners. It was the late seventies and I made $1.50 and hour plus tips, think it worked out to 3 bucks an hours.

Years later I went back to see them and ask them why they would hire someone so young. As it was explained to me that they usually hired kids 13-16 years old but most of the kids they hired were on drugs.

I remember being chased a couple times by older teenagers to see what I was delivering.

Ahh strong arm robbery by drug addicted teens, good times, I surely miss the late seventies.

I was a printer's apprentice for a small print shop in my town. My school bus let me off right in front of it, so it was perfect. I worked there everyday after school, and full days during the summer. I eventually became the store manager at like 17, whatever that really means in a 3 man shop. But the boss knew he could leave me to do things while he went out. I got 6 dollars under the table and I thought I was hot shit. Oh how wrong I was. Anyway, the guy replaced me with one of his prison buddies who just got out, and it ended up that this guy stole from my old boss and he must have been put back in prison. My old boss asked me to come back, and I wouldn't do it. Fuck you man. You wanna fire a reliable guy with a clean record for your jail buddy, have a good time with that.

paper boy. i would really have to think hard to come up with an approx $$ an hour rate. but i got about $50 a week and i delivered to maybe 45-50 houses. the delivering was fine, but going door to door to collect the money sucked. and everyone had damn discount coupons. Christmas time was great though.

my first real hourly job was for Enterprise Rent A Car. I cleaned the cars. It was fun for a while, but that feeling went away kind of quickly. it was easy, but cleaning cars from 7Am to 7PM got tiring. i did that for a summer and made about $6.50 an hour. not bad. and usually found something cool left behind in the cars about once every two weeks.

I was a lifeguard at a hotel swiiming pool in manhattan. I pretty much smoked pot all day and oiled up stray single women. There were alot of strippers up there because it was near times square back in the earlt 80s and alot of pro-wrestlers because it was right next to this gym they all worked out at. it was a cake job. I was wasted the whole time. It was a rooftop pool and we would ahve pool parties and I would get paid real money for that too.($15 an hour) nice I was a lifeguard for years it was the no-brainer job from hell. The most i did was teach people how to swim which I love and occasionally tell someone not to run on the pool deck.

When I was 14 I got a job at the golf course near my house. I picked up golf balls off the driving range and put the carts away at night. I don't remember exactly how much it paid, it wasn't a lot, but I got to play for free.

At 17 I worked at the Awful Gap In the Cross County Mall in Yonkers. 6.30 an hour. Just awful. I would fold the clothes and minutes later the fucking customers would mess it right back up. I can't walk into a Gap ever with out shivering.

i just remembered that several of the older people in the neighborhood would pay me to run to the store for them or help them carry groceries up the stairs... anywhere from 8 years old til late teens

> miss thompson - tiny old lady, about 70, lived alone. she'd catch ya walking by or playing and ask you to get her some cold cuts or bread. we thought she looked pretty funny in her skippy sneakers. she'd give you 50cents or so

> mrs dunn - she lived in the 2nd floor apt downstais

> big joe and mary - they were brother sister and lived on the top floor of miss thompsons house. joe was a big man(at least or close to 400 pounds, he always had a nice cadillac and his sister was close to 300) they would ask for help carrying the groceries up the stairs

they would insist you take the 50 cents or so
